I'm buying a 27" iMac. I plan on installing windows 7 and running some Windows games on it. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how the performance is on the ATI Radeon 256 MB card. All of the online reviews are for the 512 MB one. I'm not looking for super high performance or what not, but playability and graphics to look decent. Like for example, will Crysis be playable?
View 7 RepliesIn the tech specs for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard it only lists the ATI Radeon 4850 and 4870 for supported graphics cards for OpenCL so does this new 4670 support OpenCL? I think it would be pretty silly to have the cheaper iMac with the GeForce 9400M support it but not the next step up with a dedicated card.

Knowing mostly nothing about graphics cards or computer gaming, but wanting to get a few games for my MBP, I'd like to know how the 330M compares to the Radeon HD 4670. I intend to get Orange Box for Mac when Steam's out and the Mac version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. My only experience gaming on the iMac was a Bioshock demo that ran modestly on mostly medium settings. So in comparing the two graphics cards, I'd like to get a sense of what to expect.

first time poster; I've recently acquired a iMac(8,1) and I was hoping to use it to edit video footage. I'm debating whether I should purchase Final Cut Studio. I was told it wouldn't really be worth it unless the graphics card was Dedicated as opposed to Integrated.
I'm not sure if the computers powerful enough to run studio - or perhaps just Final Cut Pro. The Graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT. Is this graphics card sufficient to run Final Cut studio?
I purchased my Mac a few weeks ago, wanting to both upgrade my computer.......and play Diablo 3. I do always want the best out of my systems and the person who sold me the mac told me it would be fairly easy to upgrade the card...well he was wrong. He also told me a few days later not to worry about upgrading since the system is already great.
I went to a local Mac store and asked about the upgrade and found out it would be close to or above a grand for the part from Apple and the labor.
Heres the breakdown:
$875 - Card
$130 - Labor
$15 - Shipping (from apple)
Are there any other ways to find this part online cheaper and just hopefully pay for the labor?
I just really dont want to pay a grand just to upgrade my damn video card, and I know within the new year Apple will release a much better fast computer and I'll be mad. I really wish it wasn't such a hard upgrade.

. I have a G4 Power Mac running OS 10.5.8. Three years ago I changed my AGP 4X Graphics Card that came with the computer. It was an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro. I installed a new Graphics Accelerator Card Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition. For the past three years it worked beautifully with clear sharp 3D imaging. However, on Monday April 26, my monitor started showing vertical and horizontal flickering wavy lines. I thought it was my monitor that went bad, so I tried another monitor from another Mac and it did the same thing. Luckily I kept my old AGP card that I removed. I reinstalled my old card and the monitor is showing perfect with no wavy flickering lines. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Do I have to buy another Graphic Card? The Radeon 9800 was great for playing games with 3D imaging.

It comes furnished with a power splitter cord and says to plug it into the power supply or hard drive. I cannot find any place where this will plug in. The instructions that came with it are very vague and give no indication as to where this power source might actually be located.

It comes standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 xt, and I would like to upgrade to an ATI Radeon HD 4870. I don't know that it will work though, I know that the NVIDEA that comes standard in the early 2009 Mac Pro does not work in the early 2008 Model. Does anyone have any information on this or know if that will work?

what i know: the 1 dvi can push relatively big monitors. to make dual display work i need a adc to dvi converter. what I dont know. can this card drive 2 19" monitor maxed out ? (1400x900)?
this is kind of a dumb question. I have a Radeon 8500 in a Power Mac G4 that I'm repairing. I have a PCI Radeon 7000, and I was wondering, if I put it in too, would having two GPUs affect performance even though the monitor was only attached to the 8500?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI have a 2 x 2GHz Dual Core Intel Mac Pro, with 9GB of DDR2 RAM and 2 Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT graphic cards each running a Samsung 24 inch screen. I recently bought Call of Duty 4 and found that the game runs terribly on anything higher then around medium sort of settings. I know the 7300 Graphic cards aren't the best for gaming, but they have done the job for me perfectly until now. I'm a photographer so I calibrate my screens with a Spyder and run a separate colour profile through each video card per screen, and its always calibrated perfectly.
I'm just curious if there is any actual performance advantage of having 2 video cards other then running a separate colour profile through each card? So for example, If I'm playing call of duty and only 1 screen is displaying information, does the other card just sit there, or does it jump on board and process information for the game being played? Because I would have thought having 2 7300's would somewhat give better performance during gaming then just the one?
I was running some networking performance tests the other day for some research project. Essentially I have 7 computers on a LAN that is not connected to the Internet - all computers are connecting wirelessly. I have one computer function as a server and it multicasts pings to the other 6 computers at a constant rate (e.g. sends a packet every 2 seconds).I noticed some odd behavior - 4 computers received the packets in about the right time intervals (every 2 seconds), but 2 would get packets at intervals of roughly .92 seconds and 1.12 seconds consistently. I realized that these 2 computers were running on battery and not plugged in. Plugging in all computers got all the computers receiving packets at the same time.

I do mostly graphics work in Photoshop and writing code as a web-developer but I do occasional gaming so I'd see a benefit there.. I'm just wondering if it'd boost performance in the OS. Honestly, the computer runs fine... I would never replace it unless it had an issue. I'm just thinking about the future.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a MacBook, with OSX 10.4.11. It uses an AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86) and it connects to a Linksys router which is attached to my cable modem in the basement. Approx. 4 days ago I started noticing that the signal strength would vary, and then drop off all together. I have reconfigured my router, downloaded the new firmware for it, and been online chatting with Linksys techs all day. We have had no problems for months with this router, or with signal strength. My wife brought her MacBookPro home this evening to see if her machine would connect to our wireless network. Fired it up and no problem. Her machine, using the same airport card in it, had no problem with signal strength.
