Hardware :: Finding Compatible Memory?

Apr 11, 2009

I upgraded the memory in my macbook and was wondering if the old memory could be used in my dad's Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop? Below are the tech specs for both laptops

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop

RAM
Installed Size 512.0 MB / 2.0 GB (max)
Technology DDR2 SDRAM - 400.0 MHz
Memory specification compliance PC2-3200
RAM form factor SO DIMM 200-pin
RAM configuration features 2 x 256 MB

Macbook early 2008

1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) or 2GB (two 1GB SO-DIMMs) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB

Will the old memory from the macbook work in the dell?

Mac Pro :: Finding Compatible Airport Cards?

Oct 3, 2010

I've got an old school mac pro 1.1 (because i'm too poor to afford a newer one) which didn't come with an airport card when I go it. Have just grabbed one out of a Macbook to put in the mac pro. It works, but not as a normal airport card should.

I'm not sure if its an incompatible card, or if i'm just dealing with a software issues. The normal airport menu up by the clock is useless. It just says Airport: No configured, and then has a link to network preferences in system preferences. I can connect to a network, and once its connected it works how it should, but to connect I need to go into network in system pref, then under network name, select Join other network, then show network, then i'll see the list of networks and be able to select the right one. But if I restart, or the computer goes to sleep, it forgets all that information, and I have to go back to the start again and select the network again.

Do you think its an incompatible card, or is there some software trick I can do to get it working properly?

As I write this, I've got CCC cloning the entire drive and praying that it doesn't fail mid-copy.

Mac Pro :: Put A Sony Lightscribe Optical Drive & Encountered Bunch A

Apr 5, 2009

When I Put A 20X Sony Lightscribe Drive In The Secondary Optical Bay I Attached The Power And The IDE, I Checked To See If The Drives Were Initialized They Were Not Even Recognized.....The New Sony As Well As The Apple Stock Drive In The First Bay It Was Like I had Removed Both Of Them! I Then Took Out The Apple Stock Optical And Put The New Sony Lightscribe Drive In Its Place, Leaving Only The One New Sony Drive In The Pro, It Was Recognized By The System However Would Not Open Due To The Fact That The Opening On The Mac Was To Small For The Shelf Of The Drive To Open. It Was Blocked! WTF!

I Instantly Thought I Must Have Messed Up The Install, However I Thoroughly Checked It Over And There Is Really No Way For Me To Mess It Up. Due To Where The Screws Line Up. It's Not Possible To Screw Up! No Pun intended. So Whats Left Now? I Thought These Optical Drives Where Like Internal Hard Drives, USB's And Blank Disks...They Have Standard Dimensions For ALL CPU"S I Did not know that there are incompatible optical drives! Does Anyone Know A: What Drives Are Compatible With The Xeon Mac Pro?

IMac :: 27" Compatible With PS3?

Nov 9, 2009

I have not yet bought the new Imac. I am fairly new to macs having used a PC my entire life. But i look forward to the change and hope it's good. My major concern only now is that i was wondering if there's anyway to hook my PS3 to this new imac since the displays are phenomenal and it lacks a blu-ray player. The 21.5" has no DVI input while the 27" does, so i'm guessing i'll have to get the 27" if i want my PS3 to connect in anyway? If there is no perfect way to get 1080p then let me know and i will stick to the 21.5" since the PS3 connecting to the 27" was the only reason i was buying the larger model.
