Mac Pro :: Finding Compatible Airport Cards?

Oct 3, 2010

I've got an old school mac pro 1.1 (because i'm too poor to afford a newer one) which didn't come with an airport card when I go it. Have just grabbed one out of a Macbook to put in the mac pro. It works, but not as a normal airport card should.

I'm not sure if its an incompatible card, or if i'm just dealing with a software issues. The normal airport menu up by the clock is useless. It just says Airport: No configured, and then has a link to network preferences in system preferences. I can connect to a network, and once its connected it works how it should, but to connect I need to go into network in system pref, then under network name, select Join other network, then show network, then i'll see the list of networks and be able to select the right one. But if I restart, or the computer goes to sleep, it forgets all that information, and I have to go back to the start again and select the network again.

Do you think its an incompatible card, or is there some software trick I can do to get it working properly?

Hardware :: Best Compatible Express Card Wifi Cards?

Feb 27, 2008

I need a wifi card for my MacBook Pro (preferably N, but G is OK), and an ExpressCard version seems the best choice, however I'm having a really hard time finding one in stores, much less one that I know is Mac compatible. It seems the PC-world's reluctance to move on from PCMCIA is slowing down progress in this area.

There must be an expressCard wifi card out there that works with a MBP running leopard. Does anyone know of one?

The card works on other machines.

Mac Pro :: Finding Graphics Cards For Mac Pro And Video Editing?

May 2, 2008

I am about to purchase a Mac Pro, and I saw the rumor about the new ATI Radeon 3870 coming for the Mac Pro in late May.

I had a few questions about it and Mac Pro graphics cards in general. First, will this card be available as an optional upgrade when configuring a Mac Pro from the Apple Store? Is that usually how it goes?

Secondly, I'm a video editor planning to use this Mac Pro primarily for Final Cut Studio and After Effects. It seems to have been indicated that ATI cards are better for this sort of work, versus the 8800GT they off right now.

Do these programs gain significant benefit from using ATI or is it more unsubstantial?

The other question I have is whether or not these cards would be recommended for use with the Avid product line (namely Avid Xpress Pro or Media Composer). It seems that Avid only will certify NVidia graphics cards, as it has with the 8800GT. I also am aware that Avid is not compatible with Leopard just yet, but will be in the near future.

So does anyone know if Avid performs well (or at all) with the ATI cards? Would the overall performance increase of ATI over NVidia be enough to take a chance with compatability issues?

Mac Pro :: Finding List Of Working Pc Graphic Cards On Mp 3,1?

Jun 16, 2010

The thing is that when I use the card for 3D or gaming it sounds like a taking off airplane. From 0 to 30 seconds the card increases the fan speed/sound. I clean my macpro about 3 or 4 times a year, even my card but, honestly, I have never open the black cover the nvidia has for avoiding a disaster...

Ok I just want to know the best (or at least a better) graphic card. If it is a PC card, how could I make it work in my Macpro...

Mac Pro :: No Airport Card Installed - Which One Is Compatible?

Jan 13, 2011

I've recently got a refurbished Mac Pro from Apple, and once I'd set my system up and tried to connect to the internet, I soon learnt that there was no Airport Card installed, so I'm unable to get a wireless internet connection.

Having looked in the Apple Store online, I can't see any internal cards, just base stations. I looked up the Airport Extreme Card, which I thought would solve my problem, but from what I could see that is only compatible with older Macs.

Hardware :: 2004 Airport Express Not Compatible With 10.5.6?

Mar 16, 2009

I have a PowerBook G4. I was running 10.3.9 previously. I just upgraded to 10.5.6. I have a older 2004 Airport Express running just itunes to a stereo in the living room. I have a new Express acting as a wireless router and airtunes to the stereo in the office. When I upgraded the OS I lost the older express in the living room. When I try to set up the older base station I get this message: "This version of the AirPort Setup Assistant cannot set up this AirPort Base Station. Please use the software that came with the base or that is available online station to set it up." The new OS will not allow me to install the old AirPort Setup Assistant for Graphite or Snow. It says the new set up assistant is compatible with the older models. Obviously contradicting statements.

I did a factory default reset. My computer will still not recognize it. Almost like it isnt plugged in. It is plugged in and flashing amber.

Hardware :: Canon LBP-3000 Compatible With Airport Extreme?

Oct 27, 2010

When I send a file from my XP workstation to the Canon LBP-3000 printer connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station I get the following XP Incorrect port message: "The port to which the printer is connected is not supported. Check the port."

I am trying to use a Canon LBP-3000 printer that is connected to the USB port on my Airport Extreme Base Station from a computer running Windows XP. The AEB is connected to an ethernet port on the same XP computer.

I have installed the latest LBP-3000 printer driver from the Canon .au website.

The TCP/IP port settings have been set up as follows:

Port name: IP_10.0.1.1
IP address: 10.0.1.1
Protocol: Raw
Raw settings port no: 9100

Note that the printer works normally when connected as a local printer via a USB port on the XP host.

I am running Windows XP Home version 2002 SP3 The printer driver is titled "Canon Advanced Printing Technology for Canon LBP3000 R1.12 Ver.3.02.0.005 (Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista)"

The AEB firmware version is 7.5.1

Note that I am able to print via the AEB/USB to my Epson Stylus printer using the exact same setup as above (except for the printer driver).
