OS X :: Mac 10.6 And Maya Autodesk 8.5

Jun 20, 2010

I have recently purchased Mac OS X 10.6 and now Maya autodesk 8.5 will not load. I've tried multiple way to get the program to work, but to no luck. It has to do with the 32 vs. 64 bit. The new Mac OS X 10.6 runs 64 bit. Autodesk Maya 8.5 is 32 bit. I can't get it to launch or run because of the change. Is there a way to fix this problem? I've tried researching for solutions.

1. Purchase new program. Maya autodesk 2011. But I don't have the money for it right now.

2. Install older version of Mac such as 10.5. But I read that it's bad to try and install older version on a new mac. That it can crash your computer and your programs still would not run correctly.

3. Install rossetta and Right click on the icon and choose 32 bit instead of 64 bit. ( I do not know if I have rossetta or how to find out if I installed it on the computer when I started it.) I assume since I didn't load the disks that I don't have it. But how do you find out? Where would you click to see it. ALso, how would I go about fixing and installing it to see if it works.......................

Mac Pro :: Buy 2010 Mac Pro To Run Maya 2009 - 2011?

Sep 4, 2010

I'm thinking about buying a new workstation for Maya 2011. I'm looking at either a 2010 Mac Pro 6-core 3.33GHz/ATI Radeon 5870, or a 2010 Mac Pro 12-core 2.93GHz/ATI Radeon 5870. I've been told by Autodesk tech support that although Maya will see all the cores, that its not guaranteed that it will use them, and use them efficiently for rendering. They said that Maya 2011 isn't optimized for processors more than 4-cores.

I just started using Maya last year on OS X, and I find it absurd how slow Autodesk qualifies new hardware and operating systems, not allowing professionals to take advantage of the latest technology that can save a ton of precious rendering time. Has anyone pulled the trigger and purchased a new 2010 Mac Pro for use with Maya 2009-2011? If so, which Mac Pro, and what configuration did you get and Why? What version of Maya are you running? Are you having any problems running Maya, bugs?..................

Applications :: Maya - Cannot Pan Up And Down Against Image Planes

May 20, 2005

On the PC version of Maya, by pressing CTRL and the different mouse buttons you could do a series of different movements within Maya. The left button provided a rotate, horizontally and vertically. The right button acted as a zoom in and out. And the middle button would pan. However, I can't seem to Pan in Maya which is becoming increasingly frustrating because I would like to zoom in close to do high detail, yet I cannot pan up and down against my image planes.

OS X :: Mac Snow Leopard And Maya 2010

Jul 3, 2009

I can't find very much on this, but I am wondering how likely it is that Autodesk Maya 2010 (or other future releases) will be much more advanced on Snow Leopard. For example, finally having a 64-bit version for Mac. It would seem quite sad that for such an advanced program as Maya, for it to be limited only to a non-advanced OS as Windows. I've heard that it is possible, and that once Maya is available for Mac in 64-bit, it will be far superior to that of 64-bit Windows.

MacBook Pro :: Maya Runs On Current Mid Range?

Sep 4, 2008

I'll be getting a MBP (hopefully soon, darn you update cycles!) to run Maya 2009 (also coming soon) and was wondering how it runs on the current mid-range MBPs. Is it 'fast'? Regarding current models, since we know nothing of the specs for the new ones: does the VRAM matter? Since I hear it all the time: am I better off running it under Bootcamp? (Maya 64 is Win-only.)

Applications :: Maya 2010 And Snow Leopard

Oct 18, 2009

I recently bought a Macbook Pro to use for school. I had asked around the web and people said a Mac Pro would run Autodesk Maya fine. Then I did some more research and found out that Maya 2010 and 2009 run oddly on any computer with Snow Leopard but they run fine on Leopard. I went to the Autodesk website and they said they are currently working on coding it correctly for Snow Leopard. Why they just decided now is a mystery. My question is, should I wait to hear news about Maya 2010 being qualified to run on SL or can I just buy it now and install it? when they fix the problem can I just update Maya online and it will be fine? I don't need Maya RIGHT now but I would like to have it eventually.

And if there is anyone out there who has Maya 2010 or 09 and it runs fine on SL please let me know. Also, I heard people just downgrade to Leopard if they upgraded to SL but the Mac Pro I have had SL installed on it so I don't have Leopard software. Is there a way for me to downgrade to Leopard? Like can I torrent it or call the Apple Store and ask them to help?

Windows On Mac :: Maya 64 Bit On Windows On The Mac

Mar 1, 2010

Has anyone had any experience running the Windows 64bit version of Maya on a Mac with Windows installed? We are a company with 20+ Macs and are not looking to purchase a new machine to run Maya. Since Maya has yet to release a 64bit version for the Mac OS, we are contemplating converting 1 of our existing Macs to a Windows based machine. As I have not seen any posts on this topic yet, hopefully it doesn't mean that there are no people running with this configuration.

IMac :: Debating Between IMac And MBP... Leaning Towards IMac?

Aug 15, 2010

I hope you don't mind helping a guy out in his choice in what he truly needs... so I guess I'll get down to the basics.

First off, music is my main priority when it comes to computing, I write all sorts of electronic music, I'm used to working in Windows under Ableton or FL Studio, so I'm not hip to the Mac software for these functions.

In addition to the electronic music I write, I'm also very much into music instruments, I've been playing drums for around 8 years now, bass for 5 years, guitar even... so I plan on multi-track recording... up to 16, maybe even 32?I do plan on opening up my own home studio, I would be using this PC, (not sure if the MBP or the iMac)

I'm also a lightweight gamer, playing games such as Team Fortress 2, World of Warcraft, or StarCraft II (Diablo 3 will probably be my biggest gaming vice when it comes out) sparingly in my free time, which would be better for this sort of light gaming?I sometimes spend up to 8 hours on the computer, also, so if these screens are too harsh on the eyes after extended periods of time, I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me to that.

SO, with all that said, which do you guys think would suit me better? (and I'm really thinking the iMac would)... I used to want portability, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking a $2,000 laptop with me around campus at the local community college.

- Needs to be able to record up to 32 tracks of audio
- Needs to be able to render high quality tracks
- Minimal latency
- Able to run some of the less graphic intensive games out now
- Easy on the eyes for extended periods of time

Oh, I'm also an amateur filmmaker, I love filming, editing, and producing, etc.Would you guys suggest the i5? i7? Oh, and what clock speed does the 2.93GHz i7 run at when in turbo-boost using all cores?Oh, and what's the resale value of the iMac compared to the MBP? I heard the MBP retain pretty well, is the same true of iMac's?

IMac :: Itunes And Safari Running, Enable The Visualizer Imac Is Noticeably Slower?

Dec 31, 2010

System Spec: Late 09 21" 3.06, GeForce 9400, 4gb ramCurrently I have itunes and safari running, if i enable the visualizer my imac is noticeably slower, especially when browsing the internet.I thought it might be the fact I was running a second 1080p display from the 9400 would have caused the slow down. But the same thing occurred after i disconnected it. After repairing permissions and restarting, pmram etc.Is the 9400 causing the slowdown? I know its fairly old but itunes visualizer and safari should be quite basic tasks. Its not the end of the world i know but does the 27" imac have similar issues as i plan to upgrade my machine in 2011.

IMac :: Slow Wireless N Site Lookup For New IMac And Linksys WRT610N Router?

Aug 12, 2008

I had a DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router and my wireless was running very fast, 9.7MB using [URL] with no lag looking up sites. I had to upgrade the router since I was hosting a site and the router wasn't working properly for that.

So, I bought a Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. I have the iMac running on the 5GHz band and it runs around the same speed.

HOWEVER, when I open Safari or Firefox, in the status bar, it says "looking up google.ca..." or whatever site I'm browsing for and can take up to 5-10 seconds before it starts to display the site. When it is on the site, browsing around is fast as long as it doesn't change domains.

ANOTHER HITCH, I have VMWare's Fusion installed on the iMac and Vista installed there and there is no lag to browsing a site. When I type in the site, it immediately goes to the site and I am able to browse fine.
Any thoughts on this?

She said the engineers are working on it now and they are not sure if it's hardware (most likely) or software related. Further Apple stores cannot do repairs because they haven't determined what the issue is.

IMac :: Help! IMac 21.5" (Late 2009) Showing Slight Yellowish Tint!

Jul 24, 2010

Hey guys! So just a few days ago, I received my iMac, and boy do I love it. A definite upgrade and improvement from my old Acer Aspire 3680.

But despite this, I have noticed that my iMac does have a slight yellowish tint at the bottom to corners. I just arrived at my desk, and the login window (I keep a password lock) had a slight yellowish tint when I woke up my iMac from sleep . I then noticed that the bottom two corners had a slight yellow tint to them. I verified this via the MacRumors Forum post, and I was able to find it out by making my desktop background white. Again, it may not seem noticeable at first, but if you examine it closely, it becomes apparent.

I've already called my local Apple store and one of them said that don't know about this issue (?) and that they could schedule an appointment for me. I declined because I have to have me parents take me and I'm pretty sure that I can't handle the load of carrying a 20lbs. computer w/o dropping it (yikes!).

So here's the big question, should I go to my local Apple store or call the Apple hotline when it's open (currently closed at the time of this thread)? I don't want to sound like a lunatic or someone that just wants to get a better iMac for free. Again, it's slight, but considering that I do movie editing and Photoshop work

IMac :: Imac 27" Brief Mechanical Ejection Sound From Dvd Drive When Booting Up

Had a quick question. I'm on my third 27" stock 3.06Ghz imac that was replaced yesterday. The good news is that so far it doesn't seem to have any of the problems of my previous two 27" imac's. There is one thing though. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button to bootup there is a brief mechanical sound from the dvd drive like a quick ejecting sound even though there is no cd in the drive. My first 27" imac dvd drive made the sound but the second imac 27" Imac I had didn't. Is this sound normal? Would be curious to know why two out of the three 27" Imac's I had make that noise.

Software :: G5 IMac Not Starting Up/after A Few Seconds The IMac Stops The Start-up Routine

Nov 16, 2008

I have a G5 iMac - 2.1 ghz, 20", 250gb hd and 3gb ram, but it has been having problems starting up and it is also going to sleep midway through a task or at random times totally unprompted.

It now almost never starts up first time (I keep the iMac mains power lead always connected and the mains electricity supply turned on at all times now)- sometimes I will get the 'Start-up Chime' and then the cooling fans start spinning very loudly and then after a few seconds the iMac stops the start-up routine, but often when I try to start-up I don't even get the 'Start-up Chime' and I have to leave it for some time before trying again.

I can also now only get the iMac to run as a Firewire Target Disc by starting up with the T key held down and then using an old G4 (400mhz) Powerbook Titanium as the screen/keyboard by using the iMac HD as the startup disc for the Powerbook but this is obviously just a temporary work around.

I have also tried backing up all my data, and reinstalling the Mac OS X onto the iMac but the iMac still will not start-up normal and I still have to use it just as a Firewire HD.
