IMac PPC :: Retrieve Files After Crash?

So iPhone wacked out and stopped working saying I had to plug in to iTunes. Plugged in to a different itunes not on my imac and updated/restored iphone. I get the phone back to my computer and then itunes isnt up to date phone cant work with my imac g5 ppc. Only thing to do is purchase leopard os x 10.5 to bring itunes up to date. apple support i order a copy from amazon in the states because not available in Canada. The install disc completely crashes my imac(this being an apple certified product? excuse my language but ***!) Take the imac in to a certified mac shop and they install leopard but wipe everything else on my harddrive. NO SONGS, MOVIES, FILES, all of it lost! I fork out hundreds of dollars to upgrade and fix the problem yet Im still getting burned! IS any of my stuff anywhere to be retrieved? This is leading me to never purchase an apple product again!

Moving on....today my iMac was acting sluggish, I powered it off and on and the screen initially was pixelated. It then went into recover mode. When I tried the disk repair, the message indicated that it could not be repaired. I called support and they suggest that I hook up my mac mini and go into target disk mode. I did this but it wouldn't mount so I wasn't able to move any files. how to retrieve my files and restore my computer?

I have the original WD 1.0tB hard drive that was replaced in my iMac27. It had some problems and would not boot; therefore, the mac folks replaced the drive. Unfortunately, there are a few files I did not backup on the old drive. To avoid getting into my iMac, could I slave this drive onto a PC to try retrieve the files, or will I need to slave it on my iMac? I have never opened my iMac (out of warranty with no extended), and am not sure I want to.

How would I go about backing-up the disk if the image doesn't appear under devices? I went to the "Restore" tab/button, but I can not choose the hard drive in the first field. I could have sworn my hard drive was formatted for Mac, but I may have formatted it back to FAT32. I know the disk still functions because when it is powered on, it cycles with/without being connected to my MacPro, but after that, it will only cycle if connected (confirming connection). It does run again when I connect the firewire cable. My Macbook crashed recently and it just tells me to turn it off when I start it. I've exhausted all the recommended options in the manual (default settings, etc.) and unfortunately, I'm missing the first one of the Tiger installation/restoration discs . Is there any way I can access the files I need to back up using Carbon Copy Cloner on an external hard driver (which in this case would be an ipod)? It seems to think you can, but nothing on their web site seems especially clear in this. Also - I don't have access to a Mac right now, so presumably I won't be able to unpack the files the CCC DMG on Ubuntu or the ipod - not sure whether that matters or not.

My external Hard Drive (Western Digital 2TB hard drive in a ICYBOX 2-bay USB 2.0 HD Dock) won't transfer files to the Mac HD. The transfer box comes up but stays at the 'estimating time' stage and remains like that. No matter how big the file/group of files are (biggest I've tried was only 500-odd MB) it won't transfer and stays at the 'estimating time' stage. When I try and stop the transfer, the transfer box remains at the 'stopping' stage until I restart the iMac. I can access other programs during this 'stopping' stage, as long as it doesn't involve the External HD.
When I attempt to open files from the External HD in Photoshop CS4, both Photoshop and Finder stop responding and have I have to 'Force Quit'. However, upon force quitting finder, I loose all icons on the desktop until I restart the Mac via holding down the 'Power' button on the back.
Ive already done a couple things.
- I excluded the Ext HD on the Spotlight>Privacy tab.
- I verified the Ext HD via System Utilities. Some errors came up but the Repair was successful and subsequent Verifications have returned as 'OK'.
- I tried the Mac Diagnostic tool as suggested by Apple, but when I press the 'D' key on start up nothing happens.
The annoying thing is that this problem came out of the blue, the Ext HD was working fine 3 days ago.

This is on a new i5 received from Apple on Tuesday. Apart from being able to move the mouse, it had hung completely so a reboot cured it. Happened again, reboot fixed it and has been stable for a couple of hours now.

I just set up my new iMac, migrated everything from my MacBook Pro, and everything works EXCEPT Mail. I have configured my MobileMe settings to synch everything, and online, everything is there: contacts, all old email, etc... but Mail doesn't show any of this stuff, nor will it retrieve or synch any of my email accounts. Also, I have to Force Quit it everytime to exit the program.
Could this be something with the Preferences file, or .plist file?

I have a feeling this is probably due to insufficient RAM or overheating, but some input would be nice. My iMac has a 60GB HDD, 256MB PC133 module, 700MHz G3 CPU. It is currently running MacOS X 10.3.9. When I am in Safari, it seems that if I visit some sites (heavy data ones), Safari seems to "unexpectedly quit." When running SNES9X emulator, I can play for a while, then the iMac freezes or tells me to restart it.

Just after my warranty expired I developed what I suspect will be an expensive problem. Upon awakening from sleep my computer cannot recognize the internal HD. I total freeze. If I power down & reboot everything works. If I boot the computer from an external HD clone of my internal HD a can put the computer to sleep and wake up without a problem EXCEPT:When I do this the computer removes the internal HD icon from the desktop and Iget a dialog box informing me that the internal HD was improperly disconnected.
