How do I retrieve music I put in the trash. Need to put it back in ITunes
View 2 Replies View RelatedI deleted all of the files in a document folder yesterday and emptied the trash. Is there a way to get them back. No back for this folder.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was backing up my music and pictures on my external hard drive and erased the old copy. When I tried to empty my trash after that I could not remove the files because I did not have sufficient privileges. Using the rm -rf code I was able to remove everything except my itunes library. Anyone have any suggestions how to get my itunes library out of my trash? It only shows up when the external drive is plugged in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the original WD 1.0tB hard drive that was replaced in my iMac27. It had some problems and would not boot; therefore, the mac folks replaced the drive. Unfortunately, there are a few files I did not backup on the old drive. To avoid getting into my iMac, could I slave this drive onto a PC to try retrieve the files, or will I need to slave it on my iMac? I have never opened my iMac (out of warranty with no extended), and am not sure I want to.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDespite having several files in the trash, its icon never changes (always shows an empty trash) and the "Empty Trash" option is dimmed (that is, cannot be used). OnyX ws the only solution but it's temporary. What's the fix I should apply to Mac OS X? Also, why is it that every time I want to move a file to trash I must enter my password? It's annoying to say the least. Please help me as I don't want to go through the royal pains of installing everything again, Windows-style. I think Mac OS X should be better than that.

Moving on....today my iMac was acting sluggish, I powered it off and on and the screen initially was pixelated. It then went into recover mode. When I tried the disk repair, the message indicated that it could not be repaired. I called support and they suggest that I hook up my mac mini and go into target disk mode. I did this but it wouldn't mount so I wasn't able to move any files. how to retrieve my files and restore my computer?Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just been searching my trash folder and have found all my 'Previous I Tunes folders' there. All with the .itl ending. I have dragged the most recent one out of trash but when I try to open it, nothing happens and the icon appears blank.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm new to Mac and im just learning all the features. I bought the 15" mid macbook pro and this laptop is awesome. However, i accidentally deleted the last 2 icons next to the trash icon. I know that you can retrieve icons by going to the application and dragging them to the dock. But the last 2 icons i believe is something different. I forgot the name of the icons as well but i know it has something to do with recent activities or some sort.

I was trying to delete one file , so i dragged to trash, then all of a sudden I realize my entire Drobo (3TB Huge) was highlighted and deleting to my trash! So now I have a trash folder full all my Drobo's content and I can't figure out how to get it all back to "put back"! I'm afraid that I am going to inadvertently empty trash and lose my entire Drobo's contents! I need to figure out how to undo or put back ... come on Apple. Why'd you make this so difficult?

My computer has been acting strangely so I decided to empty the trash since I hadn't done so in a couple of months. The finder shows 110 "items" in the trash- some of them are folders (some of them iMovie temporary items), so I realize I have more than just 110 to delete. I don't trash many things, and certainly don't use the trash for storage! I was quite surprised and alarmed when the status bar showed over 16,000 items being deleted, so I immediately stopped the process. I then saw the trash included user files (copies?), dated the exact time I started to empty. This, together with the fact that my computer has been flaky at startup, and quite un-mac-like in frequent freezing and other troublesome behavior, had me quite concerned.Â
I asked a similar question over the weekend, but obviously wrote it too quickly and didn't make myself clear, as I only received snarky, unhelpful responses. I would really like some advice here, so I am trying again.Â
I do use Time Machine for backup, I'm hopeful that is the reason for the large number of files (including user files) in my trash, and that it is safe to go ahead and empty the trash. I'd guess that many unnecessary files would be contributing to my initial problems. However, I would feel much better if I had some confirmation from this community. If this is the case, I am also curious if I can change something so that I don't continue to have this many files going into the trash.Â

Whenever I delete a file, it is immediately deleted, regardless of type, size or location. I found the site below but I seem to be going in circles and the directions there don't seem to work for me. I have a Macbook Pro, 10.7.3, with an abundance of space. [URL]..

Is there a way to prevent apps from accessing files that are in the trash? I recently got bit when I moved some files to the trash, checked to make sure that nothing was broken, and then took out the trash. Turned out some applications were still using the files while they were in the trash. Is there a way, either in terminal or finder, to leave the files in the trash but make it so no apps can see them? It would be nice if this was the normal behavior.

I have waht appear to be a profile specific issue that prevents me from moving files from a 2nd drive in my machine to the trash when using my standard profile.Â
I to to my 2nd internal drive and when I drag a file to the trash it asks me "Are you sure you want to delete "xxxxx.jpg"Â The item will be deleted immediately, You can't undo this action. If I click OK the item is delted and does not do to the trash. It aks liek is is an external drive, not an internal driveÂ
But when I delete a file from my Macintosh HD drive the item goes to the trash as it should. Â
If I log into my Admin account, the files from the second internal drive moves to the trash normally. I have set my normal login from standard to admin and it stil has the issue, I also have run disk utility and disk warrior and rebuilt the directory, but it has not changed the problemÂ

I just got my new macbook pro today , and when I plugged in my toshiba portable external HDD, the computer put every (or what appears to be every) file in the trash bin. Strangely, the files are still on the HDD and the files disappear when I eject it. I reconnected the hard drive multiple times and the problem still persists. I cannot find one logical explanation as to why this is happening.
