My MacPro crashed, I've got a lot of files on there that I wanted to retrieve. I'm using Data Rescue 3 & its got to 97.44% complete, but it has been stuck on 97.44% for over 10 hours, is this normal?
View 5 RepliesNeed some help here. My friend is a DJ and had an external drive with tens of thousands of songs on it. The plug broke on it and I think that corrupted it since Eject was not used. I pulled the 3.5in HDD out of the case and hooked up up with some other external plugs I have.
When I run Data Rescue 3 on it, it shows that it sees almost all of these and the only two formats it counts up are mpeg and mp3s. Data Rescue then finishes the scan and has a bunch of crap files that are not needed, but none of the songs show up. What is going on here? Did I miss something in Data Rescue 3.
The drive is a 1TB drive and the backup drive we are using is 640GB, but there was only about 250GB of music on the drive to begin with.
OS X 10.6, 2 USB hard disks (magnetic, not SSDs), Data Rescue 3.
I used Data Rescue to clone a dying 120GB hard disk with a single partition to a healthy 500GB hard disk. The healthy disk now just reads as a 500GB hard disk with a SINGLE 120GB partition, as expected. I then aimed a deep scan at the 120GB PARTITION on the 500GB drive.
Question: Could the scan have picked up files that had been previously deleted on the healthy 500GB disk, WHICH WOULD CURRENTLY RESIDE OFF THE NEW RECOVERED PARTITION?
The reason I ask if because I don't want to mix files recovered from the dying hard disk with my own files that I previously may have had on the healthy 500GB disk.
Another quick question: are partitions continuous on a disk, or can they be on sectors physically scattered around the disk?
i have deleted some files from a USB pen drive in a Mac (OS 10.4), dragging them from the USB to the trash can in Mac and then used "empty trash" to get the space back in the pen drive, and as far as i know when you "trash" files they don't get truly deleted.
But i'm confused of where to look for them, shoud i look to recover them in the USB drive, or in my Mac?
Oh and one more thing! I did this months ago... Oh and i'm sorry if this is not the right forum, but i don't even know if this is a Mac issue or a USB drive issue in the first place.
I have a clients compy they reformated it and killed their data... if i usb their drive?

I have an iBook G4 pre intel (the Mac store guys tell me) that the logic board is probably shot. I want to get all of my data files off of the hard drive with the ability to move them to a (non-Mac) laprtop I'm getting from my dad.

I have been told that they have replaced my hard drive but could not get any data off the old one. I have now lost all my data, photos, files, music etc. NO backups, only simply because i did not know how to do them. Is there any way of getting the files back? All my work spreadsheets and accounts were also lost.

I powered the drive on at the mains and it makes a normal 'spinning up' noise, before cutting out after 5-10 seconds. It is not recognised in OS X or disk utility (it doesn't show up at all).
Is there anything that can be done to rescue the files that were on it? Could it be a power unit inside the drive that is gone which could be replaced or is the whole thing dead?
I have a 60gb hd from an old powerbook that has photos etc on it that i want to get into my new unibody macbook.
Does anyone know of a cheap adapter so i can plug this in as an external drive?
Can I take the flooded hard drive and transfer my pics and music to my new macbook?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi desperately need your help!!! so i was at a meeting and didn't feel like taking notes, so i took hi-rez photos of the notes my boss prepared for an upcoming presentation we'll be giving at work. i go to my office and transfer all the photos to my macbook air then reformat my usb thumbdrive (it was preselected to microsft something something format), then transfer all my stuff to the 16gb usb drive. the next day i fly here (san diego), i go to my hotel room pop out my thinkpad and windows 7 says that before i can use my usb thumb drive, i need to REFORMAT IT!!! meaning erase all my stuff! what can i do? is there anyway to recover data from it??? is my only option to reformat my usb drive and then hang myself?

View 16 Replies View RelatedOn my G4 I noticed the ? momentarily on start up, so I was going to boot from the disc to make a repair. The icon for the disc wouldn't come up on the desktop. Put a music CD in, didn't work. Was going to try to boot from 9.2 and now all I get is the floppy with the question mark. I've tried to get it to boot from the CD, (no luck) tried all I know to at least get it to boot up somewhere without luck. Broke down and bought a new imac, (it was time) and tried to retrieve my files and such from Mozy, but some critical ones are missing. Is there anyway to retrieve the data from my old hard drive, say take it out and go to the Apple store later today?

As these are essentially text files I'm not in the slightest bothered about how they appear but if I can get the words back it would be marvellous. I've seen people suggesting DDexpand.sea but that doesn't seem to help. I have OSX and not Classic or OS9 or anything like that - have I left it too late? The material is not sensitive so even if I could send a couple of files to someone to extract that would be wonderful

Some how through interacting through my iMac file system via PlayStation3 Media Server and my Macbook Pro, the permissions on my Movies folder were what I can only describe as totally nuked and I can no longer access my data. There are no longer any permissions associated with my movies folder in my user's home directory. Accordingly, I cannot access the large volume of movies (all law fully copied from hard copies which I own, of course) via local disk acess or over the network through my Playstation 3 or by mounting my user volume onto my Macbook Pro. I did change the owner via the terminal and the chown command but while the directory comes up when I look at the permissions using root access, when navigating through the finder I still cannot access the data in the folder.
I would like to try to get my movies back.

I looked up what might have been the cause of this, and I found out it was my hard drive or the cable that connects the drive to the mac. View 2 Replies View RelatedI connected my windows removable disk to my colleague's mac to transfer some data. Accidentally her system started a time machine backup on my removable disk. Although we stopped it during middle of the process, now my disk is no longer recognizable in windows and all I can see under a mac system is her backup file.
The process took a very short time. I wonder if it has deleted everything. Is there any chance I can get the overwritten data back? They are very important to me.
Besides, is it a common problem of time machine backup? It is too dangerous for the removable disks.
