I have a feeling this is probably due to insufficient RAM or overheating, but some input would be nice. My iMac has a 60GB HDD, 256MB PC133 module, 700MHz G3 CPU. It is currently running MacOS X 10.3.9. When I am in Safari, it seems that if I visit some sites (heavy data ones), Safari seems to "unexpectedly quit." When running SNES9X emulator, I can play for a while, then the iMac freezes or tells me to restart it.
View 13 RepliesI have an old imac G3 /500 mhz graphite from my old work sitting around just for my little one to play cd games. I use PC now to do my emailing and net-surfing, but gotta admit I used to love this machine, and though it's old it still looks cool. I didn't get around to connet it to go on-line, because of compatibility problem with PC(main cable modem is connected to a PC) but now thinking about upgrading it to go on-line for my kids to use. It has OS 9.0.4, 128MB of RAM with speed of 500 mhz w/front slot loading. I'm not computer savvy and don't know much about it, but was told before that system has to be upgraded to OS 9.1 or later first, in order for wireless card to be installed. Can anyone help me with exactly what I need to go on-line with this imac? since it's going to be mainly for my kids, I do not plan to purchase any additional application software, but willing to spend some to upgrade system, memory, and on wireless card. I'm thinking I might not even need newest system as long as it can go on-line, but which OS system(or should go higher?) would make more sense? How much more memory?Is it really possible to install a wireless card on this machine? Would there be a problem because main cable is connected to a PC in which wireless router is installed(for another window laptop)? Or is it even worth trying?
Appreciate any advice you computer genius out there could give me.
I have a charcoal iMac DV SE 500 which won't complete a proper start. The machine chimes and begins to start, and then clicks off again before anything can show on the screen. It won't start in Target Disk mode, and zapping the PRAM (starting with alt/apple/P/R, right?) has no effect. Does this sound like a dead PRAM battery, a dead 'Power/Analog' board, or a dead hard drive? Can anyone give me an idea of how much it would cost to fix, and recommend good, reliable, cheap UK repairers It's not worth much, but I have a friend who'd love it if it can be restored to life, and I'd like to get some of the files off it if it's not the drive.

(3) 128K PC-133
(1) 512k PC-100
This has worked for me for years but thought it was time to upgrade to the max at 2GB. So I went online and bought (3) 512k PC-133's from ebay (see spec on new memory below). When I installed the memory, in System Profiler the 3 new chips are showing empty. I know they are seated properly in the slots. The configurations of the chips are:
Original 512k PC-100 in DIMM0/J21 (shows fine in profiler)
New 512k PC-133 in DIMM1/J22 (shows empty in profiler)
New 512K PC-133 in DIMM2/J23 (shows empty in profiler)
New 512k PC-133 in DIMM3/J24 (shows empty in profiler)
Is there something I am missing? Below are the specs for the new memory chips I bought:

I'm happy with it from what I see so far. I have noticed one bug...in Word when I make the page always change with the window size (page width) sometimes it doesn't change. It's a nice looking suite and seems easy to use.
View 24 Replies View Relatedmy computer likes to freeze during startup (at the apple logo, the loading wheel sometimes stops without warning). Secondly, when I tried to use my DVD drive today, at least one DVD and one CD were ejected. The one CD I tried made a clicking sound prior to ejecting. The 2nd DVD took a long time to load, and the 3rd one loaded without fail. Could this issue be related to the DVDs specifically, or is that the drive beginning to fail? I tried running the Apple Hardware Test while I was at home, but it stated that everything worked fine…I can diagnose my computer before I go to the genius bar, I just don’t want to have my laptop overheat [Emeryville and Berkeley never have availability anymore, so, when I get home for break, I’m going to take it to a store with availability..The last laptop I had (mid 2004 iBook) had a fan issue, which causes it to overheat, and shutdown unexpectedly. It still barely even works, but something caused some major screen damage to it as well.

back in Tiger i used Uno to give Safari a graphite progress bar instead of the default aqua blue one.
alas Uno doesnt work in Leopard as its main purpose was to make Tiger have a unified interface which Leopard already has.
so for all you graphite users out there i made a graphite progress bar for Safari which is much better than Uno's. to apply it follow these instructions. download the attached zip file and unzip it quit Safari click "Go to Folder..." in Finder's Go menu or press "command-shift-G" while in the Finder and copy and paste this directory "/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources" in backup &/or trash the three .tif files by the same name as the attached files drag the 3 .tif files from the folder you just unzipped into Safari's Resources folder open Safari and the graphite progress bar should appear.
I just updated my MBP to 10.6.3 after it restarted I can only have the Graphite theme. I ve changed it to blue in the system preferences but it didn't change anything.It's not important but oh well, has it happened to anyone else?
View 12 Replies View RelatedI was switching between Blue and Graphite and now I think my apple icon in the menu bar is stuck in graphite. Though I'm not sure if that was just the way it always was. Everything else seems to be in the blue theme. Here is a screen shot of the specific area...
I have restarted my computer and everything. I'm running Mac OS 10.6.4. My menu bar is currently set to translucent but it seems to be just darker when it isn't anyway.
This is on a new i5 received from Apple on Tuesday. Apart from being able to move the mouse, it had hung completely so a reboot cured it. Happened again, reboot fixed it and has been stable for a couple of hours now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo iPhone wacked out and stopped working saying I had to plug in to iTunes. Plugged in to a different itunes not on my imac and updated/restored iphone. I get the phone back to my computer and then itunes isnt up to date phone cant work with my imac g5 ppc. Only thing to do is purchase leopard os x 10.5 to bring itunes up to date. apple support i order a copy from amazon in the states because not available in Canada. The install disc completely crashes my imac(this being an apple certified product? excuse my language but ***!) Take the imac in to a certified mac shop and they install leopard but wipe everything else on my harddrive. NO SONGS, MOVIES, FILES, all of it lost! I fork out hundreds of dollars to upgrade and fix the problem yet Im still getting burned! IS any of my stuff anywhere to be retrieved? This is leading me to never purchase an apple product again!

Just after my warranty expired I developed what I suspect will be an expensive problem. Upon awakening from sleep my computer cannot recognize the internal HD. I total freeze. If I power down & reboot everything works. If I boot the computer from an external HD clone of my internal HD a can put the computer to sleep and wake up without a problem EXCEPT:When I do this the computer removes the internal HD icon from the desktop and Iget a dialog box informing me that the internal HD was improperly disconnected.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac A1225 EMC2211 that is exhibiting some weird behaviour. After about 5 minutes of using it (cold boot) it will either have a kernel panic, freeze and go into a blue (bondi blue I think) screen, or shut down. I ran an extended AHT on it and after 10 minutes it shuts down (black screen) then goes into a boot loop (screen stays black and system chimes once every 2 seconds). If the system is warm it will not boot (goes to blank grey screen). The consol reports something with the NVRAM (havent had the ability to post the log yet).

I had Mavericks previously installed on my iMac mid 2007 and was promoted to upgrade to Yosemite which I did. Now when I try to open iPhoto and it reads unresponsive in red letters on the force quit window. When I select and click force quit computer then freezes. I am however able to open iTunes but when I plug my iPod in computer then freezes.

Is there a way, to use the "Graphite" theme but have the minimize/zoom/close buttons coloured as in the "Blue" theme? I prefer the more simple Graphite theme but with occasional apps have to think twice, which button to click, to minimise but not close.
These are apps, that show the three buttons inconveniently vertical instead of horizontal (Speed Download or the iTunes miniplayer.
After three months of using IMAC I cannot continue like this. On my Imac (21"5 2010 week 03) I had 5 to 10 crash with deferent applications per day. Only the Mail doesn't crash. When I buy this MAC everyone said MAC is stable. But I never met that with my Windows Xp ! Apple care asked to me to restart with couples of keyboard fonction to have two bip on startup. But it's still unstable... What do you think about that ? Someone had the same experience ?

Before i got my imac i seriously considered a g5 dual 2.0, but the money wasnt there. I see an apple refurb dual 2.0 for 1599, and im sure i cud get one a lot cheaper used here or on another board. How much of a performance increase will i see IN APERTURE going to the PM, if any? i would need a good increase to justify it, and eve then im not sure my parents would be ok with me spending a few hundred bucks to upgrade

The intel iMac was made in late 2006 and the iMac G3 was made in 1999, 1998 or 2000.
i am see if it was a good idea to trade my psp with a bunch of stuff for a g4 imac 700mhz 684 ram (or something close to that). i have a macbook but i want a desktop because i want something to run folding at home on and for a place to dump all my stuff. plus i dont play my psp anymore i did for a little while but now it just sets there. o and i was thinking of letting people use it that like theres computer just died or they want to see what a mac is like. so just wanting to see what people thought.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy mother's G5 imac is slowly dying. It will not wake up from sleep at all (even hard reset won't work). Her local tech people say it is a faulty logic board. (and the cost of replacement wouldn't be worth it). She can still use it if it never sleeps, which she will do for a while. Can she buy a mini (or I give her mine) and use the imac monitor? She would rather spend as little as possible.

In fact, I wonder, if it's possible to leave the iMac G4 (800MHZ) without a fan, unless I figuered out my problem with the fan connectors. Ok, I know, the fan inside the iMac is not for nothing. But, is there anyone outside, who uses his iMac without a fan?

I would just rather use my iPod with my mac and usb 1 takes forever to put songs on it. I haven't been able to find anything and as far as I know there is no place for expansion cards, so I'm probably just gonna hear a no back on this one.
