I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 500gb iMac (purchased April 2010) is about at capacity. 350gb of space is taken up by home movies (.mov) in iMovie. I bought an external hard drive and have moved about 200gb over to that drive.
After transfer, I deleted the original Events off iMovie and emptied the trash. I checked in both iMovie and in Finder and no longer see those files present on the Mac.
I thought this was going smooth and everything worked perfectly, but….when i went to check how much storage space i created on the Mac, the amount of available space barely budged (i moved 200gb of data to the new drive and i created about 30gb of space on the Mac).
Are these "deleted" files hidden somewhere and I need to go delete from somewhere else? How do I make sure I get back the storage that i need?
Ran routine disk utilities and Yasu. Now Safari wont load off dock, ap folder. Tried to trash and reload. Wont allow it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to delete a load of disk permissions. They are continually needing to be repaired and I don't recognize any of the names of the apps, and if I do, I would prefer to uninstall them.
Is this crazy? The main reason is that I am using drive genius 3 which continually monitors the health of the drive using 'drive pulse'. It comes up with 'critical' repairs needed each day and they are the same ones so I would prefer to just ditch them if possible?
Also, what I would really like to know is how I can use the command line to 'batch' delete these suckers.

My PowerMac thinks the optical drive is open. No matter what I do, I cannot get the disk inside to load and I cannot open the drive to get it out. I'v tried f12 several times and have eject in my menu bar.

Files remain after "erasing" disk iMac 10.6.x. I'm trying to reinstall leopard and for some reason 2 folders and 2 files (totaling 90mb) were left on. I'm thinking this is just preprogrammed files for my HD but just want to make sure this is the case and not some lingering 'infected' files.

I've got a program which is a .exe file and won't obviously load on my Mac, but I have no clue how to open it. I tried using crossover but it doesn't work, didn't really think it would considering its not a installation file, just a program. So basically does anyone know how I can open this program without having to install Windows on my Mac? Or is there a way to open it using crossover?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dvd-r that has a bunch of IVR video files and some text files that I use for school. For some reason when I put this dvd into the macbook It prompted me as if I had inserted a blank cd. I knew it wasn't blank because I have used it on my old windows laptop. Knowing this, I put the disk into my windows laptop, ran it, and pulled up the content. Then I tranfered all the files from the disk to a external hard drive and pluged that into my mbp. The Mac could now see all the files including the IVR fomated files(??) but did not know which program to open the IVR files with. So I drug the IVR files in to my VLC player and it reconised them but showed them as being 00:00 long and played no content. This was confusing because VLC usually could play these files. To be sure that it wasn't just VLC, I downloaded Real Player ( IVR native player) and tried playing them in that but got the same 00:00 play length and no playback. What I want to know is why didn't my mbp reconise the dvd-r and are IVR files just not compatible with OSX or is there somthing else I could should do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAbout 2 weeks ago I overwrited some files on my ibook. Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes.I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system. Also when I start it in firewire disk mode and connect it to another macbook, it will load the partition with all the files inside it. So the files are there but it will not allow me to boot the OS.

I was using adobe final cut and I exported an flv movie and it put every single frame from the movie all on my desktop. Now the minute it loads it jams finder and I get a beachball that will never end.
I need Ti delete all these images but can get to that point before it freezes. I'm totally stuck, any ideas?? I have a proposal to finish tonight and I'm losing my mind.
I have a 2009 24" imac, and in the past week sufring on the web is almost unbearable no matter what browser I'm using, theres nothing wrong with my connection as ive an iphone and an ipad and they both work fine.
On certain websites it will not even load the page properly on others it takes forever (including this on). Ive unistalled flash and its still the same.
i read somewhere this could be to do with the router but I have no idea what do if it is.

Is there a way to use your iMac drive to load programs over to your MacBook air?? Also, can you remotely ( from MacBook air ) transfer files from your iMac???
After re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.
I just got a new ISP and I seems that sites such as facebook, YouTube and even google fail to load more often than not. They wok fine on my wife's windows laptop but not on the iMac (even in my windows partition). I suspect it's an airport thing but it could also be the router (billion wireless).
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomething is wrong with my HDD.
I don't think it's dead but something to do with the indexing of the HDD.
I can go into target firewire mode and i am backing up my data as we speak. However I do not have a big external HDD that i can back up everything so I have to pick and choose.
I have diskwarrior but it does not boot up. It says cannot find boot hdd or something and shows a No entry sign on the grey loading screen with the spinning gear.
I tried disk utility to repair the HDD but it says it tries three times and fails. Cannot locate the index file. I think this is my main problem here.
If i try and boot in verbose mode it shows this [URL] something message and repeats that it cannot locate the file. I dont even know what this is as i've never been to this website.
Anyway I can repair the index file and see if mac os x will boot up? Or you recommend a fresh install?
I just want to boot the mac once so i can look for some files because spotlight wont work since it says its trying to index the macintosh HD from firewire.
I have an iMac G4 that I didn't use for few years. When I turn it on and the mouse/keyboard is unplugged, it will load but when I plug the mouse/keyboard, it doesn't start and on the black screen, it says: we hang here!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my internet yesterday to 100Mbps, and received a modem + router combo from my ISP (Charter). It is a Netgear CG3000D and I have another router hooked up, which is a Cisco/Linksys E3200. The problem I'm encountering is extremely slow page speeds, it'll take from 3 to 5 minutes for pages to load. My first thought was DNS, but of course I tried Google's Public DNS and OpenDNS. Unfortunately, they did not work. I called both the ISP and router manufacturer, but still no luck. I called Apple, but I'm not paying $49 for additional support. I'm assuming my Mac is caching something it's not supposed to. I do not live near an Apple store to see what's wrong. I went into safe mode and the issue still hasn't been resolved. There's multiple devices working fine, and I've noticed when my Mac is connected to my router, my PC goes haywire as well. And FYI -- I connected my iMac directly to the ISP's modem/router and it didn't work either.
