Software :: IBook G4 Wont Boot - Load The Partition With All Files
Jul 28, 2008
About 2 weeks ago I overwrited some files on my ibook. Since I had no data recovery software for macs, i used easy recovery pro and connected the laptop hard drive to my windows box.Once I had it connected, windows asked me to initialise the hard drive and without even thinking about it I said yes.I did raw(sector by sector) recovery and managed to find a few files. The problem is that now the ibook wont boot no matter what i try. I have tried using disk warrior and repaired the file system. Also when I start it in firewire disk mode and connect it to another macbook, it will load the partition with all the files inside it. So the files are there but it will not allow me to boot the OS.

am not sure if I am posting this in the right category. I am new on here so forgive me if it is not in the right place. I am having trouble with my partition using boot camp. I am getting an error about the files not being able to be moved. I have repaired permissions... did not work. Defragmented.... did not work. When I look at the defrag log I see that there is an error -43 on a jpg, which I can not find. All the other errors are items running that pertain to actually the computer working (quit all files that were opened just to make sure).

I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

I have a G3 iBook and just the other day the display stopped working. There were no signs of the display going bad, it's just went. Am I able to boot the iBook via Target Disk Mode on my PowerBook and run the iBook Hardware Test CD on it? Also, can I reboot my PowerBook and choose the iBook as the startup volume?
I know how to do Target Disk Mode but the latter I'm not sure about.

Have the new 15" MBP with i7 Processor. I had another MBP with a 7200RPM drive and installed drive in the new i7 Mac. Computer was working fine until I installed Windows via Boot Camp. I can't boot to the Mac Partition any more, the partition is there but when you try to boot to it you just see the Apple logo and NO circle. I cannot boot to the install CDs or a bootable external drive. I target disk mode the computer and used another computer to boot using the drive in the i7 unit and it's fine and I can see all the information. I tried booting the i7 into single user mode and saw the following message:
efiboot loaded from device: Acpi(PNP0A03,0)/Pci(1|1)/Ata(Primary,Master)/HD(Part 2,Sig********-****-****-****-************)
boot file path: SystemLibraryCoreServicesoot.efi
.Loading 'mach_kernel'...

My mid 2010 iMac i7 will not boot past the apple logo? I'm running 10.7.3. I have tried restoring from TM backup from recovery mode (worked the last time this happened) however upon completion it returns to the recovery screen? I made a disk of Lion when I downloaded the first time (followed same instructions sourced from numerous websites) which does not seem to work when i set to start up from this disk, just gets to the grey screen and flicks between the apple logo, a folder icon with a question mark and the circle with line through? Now I can't eject the disk either, a message appears that system can't eject and to make sure all applications are closed? Not sure how to go about closing these applications without being able to start the system? When I tried booting from the Macintosh HD I got a message that the boot cache partition was faulty? I have ran disk permissions etc all ok.
Info:
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

My computer crashed and when I started to re-install my OS two things happen. Either I get a disk error message or it starts to load the OS but a third the way in the screen goes blue and freezes. I've run disk utility and hardware test and both comes back ok.

I have an iBook G4 1.07 GHz 30 gb 256 RAM with Panther. It was working fine until my HD got close to being full. Now I can't get it to boot past the Apple screen. It will either freeze there, or move on to the blue screen and freeze before the progress bar enters. I want to re-install Panther but I can't get any CD to boot during startup by holding "C", including the Panther OS CD, the Hardware Test CD, or the Tech Tool CD. I am able to boot to single user mode, where I type fsck -fy, and I recieve no errors with the hardware. I had this issue beore and my HD had to be replaced by Apple.

In February I bought a new Mac Book Pro that came loaded with OS X Lion. I want to run Final Cut Pro on it. I bought FCP on ebay but can't load it because it is a PowerPC app and Lion won't load it.
I added a partition to my hard drive to load Snow Leopard, bought SL online and am trying to install SL.
If I try to run the install app from within Lion I get this message: "You can't use this version of the application install Mac OX X.app with this version of Mac OS X." Then in small print this: "You have Install Mac OS X.app 23.1"
If I try to boot from the SL Install DVD I get this message: "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button until it turns off, then press the Power button again." I do this and it always comes back to this same message.
I tried booting to the Recovery HD but can't get that to allow anything either.

My first Bootcamp partition had a problem with installing my printer drivers, so I decided to just scrap it (i.e. I used disk utility to erase [wrote zeroes] that partition). I then used the Bootcamp assistant to create a new partition, and I installed Windows 7 again on the new partition. I have everything up and running on the new partition, and it works perfectly when I re-start in bootcamp.
However, when I try to load it in Vmware Fusion, it seems to be searching for the old partition. How can I get Vmware to boot up the new partition? Right now it says "No bootable device detected."

Now I have a problem with my other iMac. I had this problem once before. The first time, I was moving it to connect an ethernet cable to it. I unplugged it, moved it, connected the cable and a mouse, and plugged it back in. I fixed this by unplugging the cable and the computer. Then I plugged it back in and it worked. This time, I moved it, connected the cable, a keyboard and mouse, and nothing, other than a slight light dim and the crt "tink". Now I cannot get it to even turn on. Nothing. I press the power button, nothing. I have tried 3 cables and four different recepticals, nothing. HELP!!! Now both of my g3 iMacs are down....

when I went to restart the computer so those updates would take effect, during the start up process, all I continually see is the Windows XP scrolling status bar, I shrugged figuring it had a bit to do and left it to its own devices, and a half hour later returned to see the same scrolling progress screen. (before choosing which account to log into for windows).

I have my mac pro set up so that I have a boot drive with pretty much all my apps and stuff. And then, on a separate drive, I have my home folder. Basically, it's set up as detailed in this article. My boot drive is on a 500GB hard drive, and currently takes up only ~30GB. Since it is a 500GB drive, I don't use much of that space at all. Is there a way to partition the drive, without having to delete/reinstall anything, so that all of that data is stored on the outer areas of the HDD, so they're accessible more quickly?

I have a late 2009 MBP with bootcamp. It has both windows xp partition and mac osx. Everything has been fine and I was able to boot into either partition perfectly until today. When I tried to boot into osx, I would get into the usual grey screen with apple logo on it, then a circle with a diagonal slash on it would appear. It would boot into the windows partition automatically after that happened. I tried holding "option" key and choose the mac partition but the same thing happens. What can I do to recover it? I really don't think I have done anything that changes the mac setting. I would hope to settle this without restore disc because I didnt have one now (left at home).

just trying to get back into Windows 7 after installing it via Boot Camp. Only thing is that holding down the option key during restart does nothing, and although the partition in which Windows 7 is installed under shows up in finder, I am unable to view it in system preferences so that I can boot from it. Any advice?

I bought a G3 iMac about a year ago as a spare computer, and had tried to remove a disk partition set by the previous user. Now when it boots after the apple logo the log in screen flashes for a second and then disappears, then the icon changes to the spinning beach ball and stays there forever...I assume it is trying to boot from the partitionthat i removed and is confused in somway, can I reset this? or will i need to boot from another device?Maybe i'll need to boot from an ext HD?

Right now I am booted into the GParted live cd, and I am wondering if my computer will even be able to boot into the OS X install disc if I delete every single partition on my HDD. I am going through a roundabout way of removing ubuntu. Will I be able to boot into the OS X install disc and do an install if I delete every single partition, and leave my HDD completely blank and unformatted?

I'm new to mac. I've tried to install windows XP through boot camp-assistant. Now I have made a second partition, for windows. Windows doesn't work yet, I think I need my mac OS X CD to install some drivers from. When I boot up my system, it automatically says "press any key to boot from CD" or something like that. Now I have to push "option key" every time I boot up, to choose which partition I want to boot. How do I make it automatically boot up from the macintosh HD, so it launches Mac OS X?
