IMac PPC :: Can't Load 10.4 CD
Jun 7, 2012I have a PPC iMac running 10.4.11 that is having issues. Onyx tells me that the HD needs fixing but the iMac will not recognize the OS CD that came with the computer. how I can run Disc Utility when I cannot load the system CD?

Nov 7, 2010I was using adobe final cut and I exported an flv movie and it put every single frame from the movie all on my desktop. Now the minute it loads it jams finder and I get a beachball that will never end.
I need Ti delete all these images but can get to that point before it freezes. I'm totally stuck, any ideas?? I have a proposal to finish tonight and I'm losing my mind.
IMac :: How To Load Pages Fast
Nov 9, 2010I have a 2009 24" imac, and in the past week sufring on the web is almost unbearable no matter what browser I'm using, theres nothing wrong with my connection as ive an iphone and an ipad and they both work fine.
On certain websites it will not even load the page properly on others it takes forever (including this on). Ive unistalled flash and its still the same.
i read somewhere this could be to do with the router but I have no idea what do if it is.

PowerPC :: Imac G3 Will Not Load From CD Drive?
Feb 7, 2009After re-opening that giant graphite egg, re-plugging in the cd drive and making sure all of the wires were properly plugged in too, and getting a new kind of hate inside of me for apples quality of construction, I have gotten the disc drive reading again. However it will still not boot off cd.
I just want to upgrade to tiger and it won't let me do so, I can't even find the CD drive in the boot options. but the strange thing is that the os x tiger cd is selectable in the startup disk options, but on boot with the boot menu it does not show up.
is there anything i can do (preferably without spending any money, or very little) or am I stuck with os x 10.3.9 for the rest of my life?
also I'd like to do a clean boot, after all I bought the computer used, and it has a bunch of junk files on it that I'm too lazy to search for and destroy myself.
plus the thing still thinks its named after the school that used to own it, and I'd like it not to.

Oct 3, 2009I just got a new ISP and I seems that sites such as facebook, YouTube and even google fail to load more often than not. They wok fine on my wife's windows laptop but not on the iMac (even in my windows partition). I suspect it's an airport thing but it could also be the router (billion wireless).

Jun 13, 2010Something is wrong with my HDD.
I don't think it's dead but something to do with the indexing of the HDD.
I can go into target firewire mode and i am backing up my data as we speak. However I do not have a big external HDD that i can back up everything so I have to pick and choose.
I have diskwarrior but it does not boot up. It says cannot find boot hdd or something and shows a No entry sign on the grey loading screen with the spinning gear.
I tried disk utility to repair the HDD but it says it tries three times and fails. Cannot locate the index file. I think this is my main problem here.
If i try and boot in verbose mode it shows this [URL] something message and repeats that it cannot locate the file. I dont even know what this is as i've never been to this website.
Anyway I can repair the index file and see if mac os x will boot up? Or you recommend a fresh install?
I just want to boot the mac once so i can look for some files because spotlight wont work since it says its trying to index the macintosh HD from firewire.

May 18, 2012I upgraded my internet yesterday to 100Mbps, and received a modem + router combo from my ISP (Charter). It is a Netgear CG3000D and I have another router hooked up, which is a Cisco/Linksys E3200. The problem I'm encountering is extremely slow page speeds, it'll take from 3 to 5 minutes for pages to load. My first thought was DNS, but of course I tried Google's Public DNS and OpenDNS. Unfortunately, they did not work. I called both the ISP and router manufacturer, but still no luck. I called Apple, but I'm not paying $49 for additional support. I'm assuming my Mac is caching something it's not supposed to. I do not live near an Apple store to see what's wrong. I went into safe mode and the issue still hasn't been resolved. There's multiple devices working fine, and I've noticed when my Mac is connected to my router, my PC goes haywire as well. And FYI -- I connected my iMac directly to the ISP's modem/router and it didn't work either.

IMac :: Slow Internet Load Times?
Sep 23, 2010I just upgrades my iMac to snow leopard. I did not see this problem right away but about a few weeks later. My computer is really, really slow when I surf the internet. But it is not slow consistently. Sometimes pages will load immediately and other times it will tell me I can't open the page due to the server not being found? I really don't know where to start looking for a problem.
Could I have a virus?
Could the Airport just be getting old and starting to fail?
Do I have too much info on the computer already and that is effecting something?
Could it be the Snow Leopard?
Could someone hacked into the modem and is jogging the bandwidth? ( I don't have the wifi locked but live in a pretty rural area)
OS X :: Tray Load Imac Wont Boot?
Nov 9, 2009Now I have a problem with my other iMac. I had this problem once before. The first time, I was moving it to connect an ethernet cable to it. I unplugged it, moved it, connected the cable and a mouse, and plugged it back in. I fixed this by unplugging the cable and the computer. Then I plugged it back in and it worked. This time, I moved it, connected the cable, a keyboard and mouse, and nothing, other than a slight light dim and the crt "tink". Now I cannot get it to even turn on. Nothing. I press the power button, nothing. I have tried 3 cables and four different recepticals, nothing. HELP!!! Now both of my g3 iMacs are down....

Jun 6, 2012First Facebook stopped loading on my computer. Now Yahoo will not load. All other sites seem to load with no issues. I have tried all of the recommended items that I could find including but not limited to Empty Cache, Reset Safari, Cleaning cookies, Adding or changing DNS, clearing history.plist and everything else I could find in the communities. It seems that the pages I visit the most are the ones with issues. I should note that I have had some instances of Safari closing unexpectedly and times where I have had to use force quit.

Aug 24, 2014I just got home and I realized the power was out. I bought this iMac literally like two months ago (I actually bought one two months ago but it wouldn't even turn on so they gave me a new one) It was working perfectly fine, and I was writing a report. I left the computer on and left the house only to return hours later with the power out, and when I turn it on it shows the start up screen with the Apple Logo, the little progress circle, and a progress bar that fills up to the end everytime but once it fills up to the end it stays there for a few minutes then the computer shuts off.Â

Jan 14, 2011here's the issue, when i open a new tab and go to a website, i then wait for it to load, while it does load, i go onto the other tabs, but then when i go back to the tab that was loading, i get this message/error saying that the website cannot be found etc. as if there is no internet connection. i then click on refresh and it loads up the page just fine. this only happens when i go onto the other websites and don't wait for the new tab to load. why does this happen? it is very frustrating. i already reseted safari numerous times and im still having the same issue.

Question: Should I load the software on my new 2009 iMac, or pass on it? Free is great, but would it do more harm than good, such as slowing down my computer? FWIW, at the Apple store several employees told me neither they nor the store manager uses antivirus software on their personal macs.

Sep 6, 2014For the last 2 weeks my wifi connection has been playing up. I use Wifi and my iMac connects directly to my router and it works slow if at all as some pages don't load. I can get by but its frustrating using it and this problem is specific to my iMac as every other device using Wifi works fine. These devices, that work fine, include mobile phones and a MacBook Pro.Â
I'm using Chrome and its the same with other browsers. I usually get a "resolving host' message in the taskbar when loading pages. Sometimes pages do not load at all or they are slow to load and at times some elements like images don't appear. My OS X is 10.9.4.Â

Safari :: Doesn't Load Pages Containing Html5 Canvas On IMac
May 2, 2012Suddenly Safari either is very slow to load or doesn't load some pages at all. I have tracked it down to be pages containing html5 canvas element.
This happens only on iMac and Macbook Air. It doesn't happen on iPad nor on Safari on a Pc. It will happen on the Mac computer both when the pages are out on the internet and when the pages ar locally stored. It's driving me absolutely mad!
I've tried emptying cache both through Safari menu and by removing Safari's Cache.db, I've reset Safari preferences, restarted, and changed DNS to Open DNS (though it seems strange it should be an issue since the problem also occurs when I run the site on localhost). Â
If I open the page directly entering the url in the adressbar it works fine, it is when I try to access it from a link on another page on the site it doesn't load. If I press reload it will load fine. The link from other pages can be either an html <a href="url"> tag or javascript window.location or window.location.href neither works. The weird thing is it worked fine until just yesterday. And it works fine on every other machine except the Macintoshes.
Safari :: How To Change DNS On IMac To Speed Up Internet Load Times
Jun 10, 2012I am trying to change my DNS on the DNS tab of the going through System Preference/Network/Advanced/DNS tab. However, the current DNS are greyed out and I can not overwrite them. After watching a host of videos and going to the local Apple store, I see that I am the only one that has this problem. It is as if the IP address assigns the DNS and locks it. Is this correct?
