I have a problem where finder (under any condition even after a fresh restart) does not load the folder contents on my computer. Sometimes it loads after multiple restarts but somtimes it doesn't. I cannot browse through files anymore as nothing appears. Nothing also appears on terminal either. Here is a screenshot.

Here's the system profile, to get that out of the way: [code] Enabled Other than the faulty video card that seems standard for this run of the Pro, I have never had an issue. I have just replaced the battery from the original battery that came with the computer. It was useless to the extent of the word, but my budget did not allow me to purchase a new battery until recently. The battery info only stated "Replace Now" and the LED meter no longer functioned. The battery held no charge, and the computer only ran off of wall power. Up until a few days before I replaced the battery, this provided no trouble. However, it began one day to startup extremely slowly (5 minutes or more on the Apple logo startup screen, and then more time to load dock/top screen toolbar/etc. It also failed to recognize the external HD I frequently use with this computer. My theory was that it was simply underpowered on account of the failed battery, and the internal HD or the CPU was just not able to run properly. I finally put a new battery in hoping that it would fix the issue, but no avail. My startup time seems slightly less, but it seems as if the computer has not loaded interface protocols, as the computer is unresponsive to attempts to open the dock or a finder window, or even hover over battery or volume icons. After 5-10 minutes it finally kicks in and I can use my computer without problem, with the exception of the external HD, which will still not load.I have run disk utility, verified my HD, no errors reported. I have the activity monitor up which shows a pretty minimal load on the CPU and disk usage. Nothing I can think of would explain the problem my computer has suddenly adopted.

I have a 2.4 Ghz Macbook pro with 4 GB of RAM, and compared to a lot of other Macs - like the 2.6 Ghz/2 GB iMac I'm typing this on - it seems awfully slow to load applications. I'm running Snow Leopard, and the problem has not gotten any different or better.
For example, if I quit Word, after opening it, and then start it again, it takes 8 seconds. On this iMac, it takes 2 seconds. They're both running Word 2008.
Firefox 3.6 often takes 6 seconds to open, compared to more or less instantaneously on the iMac. It's true that if I open Firefox, close it, and then open it again on my MBP, it sometimes then loads instantaneously, but if I wait 30 seconds, it might take 6 seconds again.
I have my graphics card set to "high performance," so it should be using the nVidia card rather than the integrated card, and I have the 7200 rpm hard drive.
What's the deal? I can't think of any exceptional CPU/memory-hogging application that I'm running in the background, and activity monitor shows 85-90% capacity idle.

i've noticed that every once and a while, i notice that when my mbp starts up and goes to my desktop, it sometimes brings my background in slow. is this normal? the computer runs fine and there's no screen problems. it happens more when i dont turn the computer on for a while (a day) and then start it up again. it basically just starts up my desktop slow.Â

got an Emac G4 bubble slow to load and sometimes you just get a blank screen and nothing happens ?
Then you turn of the power and mostly it loads with the apple chime.
Sometimes you got to do it three times .
Other times you notice in the little box as it loads a "?" .
What can i do to get it to load properly ?
When it wont load you get a beep instead of the chime.
I just upgrades my iMac to snow leopard. I did not see this problem right away but about a few weeks later. My computer is really, really slow when I surf the internet. But it is not slow consistently. Sometimes pages will load immediately and other times it will tell me I can't open the page due to the server not being found? I really don't know where to start looking for a problem.
Could I have a virus?
Could the Airport just be getting old and starting to fail?
Do I have too much info on the computer already and that is effecting something?
Could it be the Snow Leopard?
Could someone hacked into the modem and is jogging the bandwidth? ( I don't have the wifi locked but live in a pretty rural area)
I love using Chrome. Here recently tho for Mac the first time I fire up the browser it takes forever to load up completely. Probably a full minute. After the first use it loads up in seconds. This has frustrated me to the point where I went back to Safari.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is perhaps an expected result, but from the launch of iTunes (V10.6) in OSX (V10.7.3) until the beach ball stops spinng takes close to 5 minutes. I have just under 20,000 tracks in iTunes. Probably 95% are in iCloud. I suspect that this is the culprit. The track list loads within 30 seconds, but the spinning beach ball of death just keeps on chugging. I do not display album art.

Is anyone else having problems with iCloud mail at the moment? For the past few days it has been VERY slow to update, sometimes failing altogether. Yesterday, I deleted a number of emails, only to find them restored after a later update. I am beginning to think about no longer using iCloud mail and shifting my main email account to my gmail account - it works every time!

When I go to YouTube to look at any video with Safari ( 5.1.7 ) on my iMac the video never loads up correctly. I try to pause the video to let it load up but the video won't pause right away. Then I get the spinning beach ball. The video will not play until the entire page is loaded and the video has to be loaded before it will play correctly. This has been going on for at least four or five months. Now if I use Firefox ( 4.0 ) there is no problem at all. I don't want to use Safari for everything and then use Firefox just to look at YouTube.

Now, following the Mavericks upgrade a little over 2months ago, it is taking several minutes for browsers to load. It does not matter which one I use, Safari, Firefox, or Chrome. Safari is set as my default. There are no additional plug=ins and I use only one browser at a time, never have 2 open at same time. Do I have too many documents, bookmarks or Reading List? Â
Also several times a day a black screen happens telling me that iTunes has nothing in it. I know this but am bewildered at why it keeps giving me this info. How do I turn it off without removing it, iTunes I mean.
how I can speed up my internet. [URL]is says that I have a 10.71 mbps download and 1.34 mbps upload but for some reason my internet is always slow to load web pages etc. There a quite a few internet connected devices in my house (up to ten (iphones computers, xbox), but not all being used at once of course, with 2 Airport Extreme base stations.) View 7 Replies View RelatedWithin the last few days my iMac (Mac OS X 10.5.8) has started acting up. It is running very slowly. I have over 100GB of space left. 4GB of Ram. I have been so worried that I have tried everything, including a virus scan (which I knew would be useless) and turns out I have no virus'. I have repaired the permissions on my HD. I have also rebooted it a bunch of times, did a software update. Things like my hot corners won't work. My dock doesn't pop up when I run my mouse over it. Right click is VERY SLOW. It's gotten so bad that when the screensaver on my iMac turns on the motion of the mouse doesn't do anything. I have to actually push a button on the keyboard for the screensaver to go away.

I have 12mbps on my account and speedtest.net says I am getting 10mbps. But the internet is loading slower than that. if I try to open two pages at a time sometimes it says failed to open. and I can never just type google, I have to type google.com. I've cleaned all my mac's systems and added 68.94.156.1 and .157. to all the mac's airport DNS settings. What am I doing wrong? I can't call bc they don't seem to know anything about time capsules, airports, or mac's.

Every time I open Finder it takes literal minutes to load the file listing, and while it loads it freezes the section where the file listing loads with whatever background it was opened over. This happens all the time, and once it finally loads, it will do the same thing if I try to go to a different folder. This renders Finder essentially useless and I have had to add a third party (forklift) app to browse and manage files.Â
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem that when selecting a file that is either an attachment in email or is in my finder, double clicking on it fails to load the associated application successfully. For example, selecting a pdf file results in the pdf reader logo appearing on the lower bar on the screen, bounces up and down as if it is doing something, but just continues to bounce. I have to force quit it, then go to my application folder to load reader directly, and from within the reader I can then go and select the file. This isn't an application specific issue (It does it with Excel, Word etc).Â

I would like to ask is it possible to load fonts into the Font Book of a MacBook Pro from a custom folder location, not from the default one?Â
Why I need this is because I work as a Web Designer and I would like to share all fonts I use with my design team, and when I add a new font or some of them adds it to be available for all of us. Right now what I do is we have a shared folder on Google Drive and every friday we update it by Copy & Pasting our fonts into that folder and then after all of us has done this we go in and Copy & Paste back all of the content, that way we keep our fonts synced.Â
What I was thinking is that if we can load the fonts directly from the shared folder would work really well to keep it in sync...

Yesterday while I worked on the mac it had froze up. After the restart it shows one folder with question mark in the center of the screen and can't load the OS.
I am trying to reinstall the os from my leopard cd but when i have to choose where to put system folder in Disk utility, there is no hdds there. The only device i can see is my dvd rom. I tried to attach external hdd but it doesnt shows too.
I've got a program which is a .exe file and won't obviously load on my Mac, but I have no clue how to open it. I tried using crossover but it doesn't work, didn't really think it would considering its not a installation file, just a program. So basically does anyone know how I can open this program without having to install Windows on my Mac? Or is there a way to open it using crossover?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dvd-r that has a bunch of IVR video files and some text files that I use for school. For some reason when I put this dvd into the macbook It prompted me as if I had inserted a blank cd. I knew it wasn't blank because I have used it on my old windows laptop. Knowing this, I put the disk into my windows laptop, ran it, and pulled up the content. Then I tranfered all the files from the disk to a external hard drive and pluged that into my mbp. The Mac could now see all the files including the IVR fomated files(??) but did not know which program to open the IVR files with. So I drug the IVR files in to my VLC player and it reconised them but showed them as being 00:00 long and played no content. This was confusing because VLC usually could play these files. To be sure that it wasn't just VLC, I downloaded Real Player ( IVR native player) and tried playing them in that but got the same 00:00 play length and no playback. What I want to know is why didn't my mbp reconise the dvd-r and are IVR files just not compatible with OSX or is there somthing else I could should do?
