I have saved some of my Mom's writing typed on an iMac G3 and then saved on a G4 iMac. It was then transferred to my new iMac. When I try to open it on my iMac 10.6.8 I get the message-
Exec format error. Binary file not executable.
What can I do to make it readable?

I am doing tech support for a family member, He is running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on a late-2009 27" iMac, and Time Machine is/was set up on a 2TB LaCie d2 Quadra V3 connected through FW800. He had noticed that Time Machine had not run in a while, so I opened it, and his former Time Machine drive could not be found. It wasn't showing up on the Desktop or in Finder, so I opened Disk Utility to see that it is unmounted. When I tried to mount it, it did nothing. I verified the LaCie drive and it returned no errors. I verified the disk, and it failed and returned "Underlying error: 8: POSIX reports: Exec format error". I tried to repair the disk and it returned the same thing. I am not sure if it has been working since he upgraded to Mavericks. It seems to me that the drive is dead, pre-reformat, but let me know if not. (I am not sure why it would have failed. He doesn't seem to turn off his computer, and I doubt he has unplugged the drive at any point. It may have been running for several years straight, though.) If it's dead, is the data likely recoverable?

I'm trying to convert some rmvbs to avis using ffmpegX and no data file with other formats but as soon as I drag it in, ff freezes. The first file has a size of 92MB. If this is not going to work, please tell me a free converter that will convert them. Or at least one which has a trial version NOT a demo version.

However on later inspection it appeared to be a kitchen website. Anyway on the website there was what appeared to be a video, and I was asked to do something, although it was in a windows style 'window' rather that the OS X style. View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of my accounting for the past 10 years are in Quick Books 6.0. I have to transfer everything to Quick Books 2009. I backed Quick Books 6.0 onto a jump drive. I have upgraded my old computer with OS 9.2.2 to a imac with OS 10.5.6. When I attempt to transfer the data from my jump drive, I receive the following message:
Backup: cannot execute binary file
It also says under "kind": unix executable file
I called Intuit and they could not help, they said it was a Mac problem. I called Mac, they said it was an Intuit problem.
Has anyone else noticed this friendly looking executable file in their iTunes library?
It appears to be created and recreated by iTunes, but it shares it's name with a nasty piece of spyware so I'm really not liking it being there.
Anyone seen this guy or got any insight as to why iTunes would be creating it?
I have a problem with Unix Executable Files. When I access a file on our server using 10.4.x most files display as Unix Executable File. The same file accessed using 10.3.x displays the proper file creator icon and description. This seems to be a Tiger issue and it is causing a lot of grief. Many of the files are Quark and fonts. Adding extensions to the files is not an option.

I have a program that I must run on Windows as it is not supported on Mac. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.3 with a partioned drive Running Windows 7. Currently, I am rebooting to access the Windows side, but will eventually use the parallel software that is available, but baby steps first. (I am a new Mac user by the way, trying to get rid of the PC, but have found our accounting software is not supported for mac - inconceiveable I know!). So, I have an executable file that I need to launch and cant quite figure it out. I also have Boot Camp, but honestly don't have a clue what it does.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI think at one point (probably when I switched from my 80GB to my 500GB drive) I screwed up and made the partition format on my drive Apple Partition Format. As I was just doing disk cloning, Leopard had no problem with this, and never mentioned anything being wrong (if it did I could have fixed it back then). However now, when I try to upgrade to Snow Leopard, it complains about this, telling me I can't upgrade and my only real option is to back up my data and fresh install. Problem being, I don't have a 500GB drive laying around, and I don't have the money to buy a 500GB drive to use once to back up all my data. It pisses me off to no end that Leopard didn't complain about this when I first did it if it was going to be a problem in the future (back when I could have fixed it) and only now it's become a problem. I guess my question is, is there any way I can get by this problem and install Snow Leopard? Or am I gonna have to wait till my friend needs to wipe his PC again and borrow his HD for a night?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've done this many times before, and I think it's just a failing drive, but I wanted to check and see if anyone had successfully worked around this problem before. I have a 16GB Transcend flash drive, and it stopped working last week. When I connect it to a computer, I get the message that I have inserted a disk that cannot be recognized. Disk Utility only recognizes the device, but no volumes (see attachment #2). When I try to format it, I get an error that says it Can't allocate memory (see attachment #1).
Anyone recognize this? I can send it back and get the drive replaced under warranty, just wanted to see if there were any other thoughts.
I have a G4 1.25 Dual Power PC and I've added a 320Gb ATA drive as the system drive. All seems fine except that in Disk Utility the drive appears RED and it says ' This drive has reported a fatal hardware error to Disk Utility" It won't let me format the drive or First aid it etc.
Anyone know how I can do a low level format and maybe try and locate the damage?
I've tried Disk Warrior and Tech Tool4 to no avail.
iPhoto will not import a video on my kodak camera but it will import photos. The only difference I can really tell between this movie and others I already have imported into iPhoto are that this one is a .MOV file and the others are .MPG files. Anyway to change this? In the camera maybe? I can't open the file in quicktime either, no way to access it I think since it cant import.

View 24 Replies View RelatedThe Backup Exec software is able to backup all files on the Windows servers (Both remote and local) but not the XServe. During setup of the backup job I am able to browse all files on the XServe and select which ones I would like to backup. However, when i run the backup job it fales stating that the agent is either not running or not the correct version.
I then went in to test the credentials for the account used to backup the XServe and it passes for the root share and does not attempt to check the credentials on the actual files. When I called Symantec the told me that I had the correct version of the MAC Agent installed and that it will automatically run after installation of the MAC Agent.
I have a program, Jing, that saves my screen recordings in to .swf (which I think is an adobe flash player) but I can't really watch them unless I am running that program, then I can watch it as a saved file, but I want to use it as a .mov (or maybe a .flv, .m4v, .avi so I can at least convert it with the program i have) in iMovie and such. Is there any way I can convert these, or any software I should get to do so?
