Has anyone else noticed this friendly looking executable file in their iTunes library?
It appears to be created and recreated by iTunes, but it shares it's name with a nasty piece of spyware so I'm really not liking it being there.
Anyone seen this guy or got any insight as to why iTunes would be creating it?
I was sent a .mcd file for Vectorworks by a colleague and the file has come up as an exec file. What is this, is it corrupt and can it be revived?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with Unix Executable Files. When I access a file on our server using 10.4.x most files display as Unix Executable File. The same file accessed using 10.3.x displays the proper file creator icon and description. This seems to be a Tiger issue and it is causing a lot of grief. Many of the files are Quark and fonts. Adding extensions to the files is not an option.

i've searched the forums about fonts showing up as unix executable and haven't been able to find a solution - is there any way to restore the fonts? currecntly, the fonts are showing up as 0kb or 4kb.

After I moved my iTunes media and library back from an external drive back to my new laptop (with a larger drive), I can't open iTunes. I get this message "The iTunes Library file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the "Music" folder. The only option it gives is to click "OK" and iTunes shuts down. I tried reinstalling iTunes but the problem persists. I've checked and my iTunes Library.itl file is in its proper location.Â

I was just looking up the songs of the noughties, and I came across what appeared to be a blog, judging on the description google gave me. However on later inspection it appeared to be a kitchen website. Anyway on the website there was what appeared to be a video, and I was asked to do something, although it was in a windows style 'window' rather that the OS X style. I was promoted to download something from [URL] and I clicked ok, as this window would not go away otherwise, however I cannot find it on my mac, and it says it was an ms-dos executable file, does that mean it will not work on my mac? View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a program that I must run on Windows as it is not supported on Mac. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.3 with a partioned drive Running Windows 7. Currently, I am rebooting to access the Windows side, but will eventually use the parallel software that is available, but baby steps first. (I am a new Mac user by the way, trying to get rid of the PC, but have found our accounting software is not supported for mac - inconceiveable I know!). So, I have an executable file that I need to launch and cant quite figure it out. I also have Boot Camp, but honestly don't have a clue what it does.Â

Aight, the thing is he got an UNIX-file, he want to install. I found out, that Fink are very useful here. However, we could install Fink, but not the UNIX archive. So here it goes. Simple question: How do you install an UNIX archive using Fink?

so I wanted to change my documents icon to a really fancy icon so I found this site called [URL] and followed the steps to change it into a suitcase of some sort. But my documents wouldn't open, and a dialog box popped up and said something about how no application can be run with this and it had the option to choose an application. So I deleted the suitcase, and now the folder has turned into a UNIX file which is not accessible.
I have a cd from a Dr. with x-ray images on it (supposedly). The files say "Unix Executable File". It seems I have no application with which to open them on my fancy desktop.... Can you recommend a software program to open or translate the files so that they are readable, and perhaps compatible with iPhoto?

I have Corel X5 set up on my PC which is networked to my iMac. Just installed SP1 for X5, don't know if this is doing anything weird. X5 seems to be working just fine BTW, but I created a simple vector logo tonight and exported the file as a GIF as it will be incorporated into another graphic on my iMac. Anyway, I created a shared folder on my mac's desktop, and when I try to drag the file from the PC to the mac it says I need permission?

I have multipe accounts on my Mac. Two of them need to share certain files, but not with everyone else so I can't use the Shared folder. When I create a new text file with AppleScript it has default ownership to the account that created it, but I need to give read & write privilages to it to the other account as well. I can do this manually, but there are lots of files sometimes. One trick I've found is to reset privilages from the next higher folder. This saves time, but sometimes I forget. Also when I do this it causes Time Machine to think all the files in that folder have been updated. If the folder is large it may cause Time Machine to purge a old backup version. What I'd like to do is find some AppleScript code I can use to add user "A" with read & write access to the permissions of a new file at the time my AppleScript creates that file.

I've made a movie project in iMovie 7, but it's taken 3GB of space on my hard drive and I am lacking space right now, so I need to move it out onto a external hard drive. I'd like to be able to recreate/edit the movie project on another computer.

I have a file I alter once about a week, each time I alter it I save it as a new one, with a date included in the name.So I have a series of files something like
xxxxx march 13.numbers
xxxxx march 07.numbers
xxxxx march 01.numbers
etc.
This morning when I updated and saved the march13 file I accidentally saved it as xxxxxx march 13, not xxxxxx march 20 which it should have been. No problem, go into time machine and retrieve the march 13 file I thought.Its not there. Its not there from just before the save to any time it should be there !
Luckily I was able to retrieve it as I also have a once a week online backup so I went into the last one of those and retrieved "xxxxxx march13" which proves it did exist, it has a creation date of march 17 but if I look at TM for march 18 its not there - why isn't it in my time machine backup?
All the other files in that folder are as expected so the only thing that makes any sense to me is that TM hasn't been backing up over the past week or so but TM error logger shows no errors.

The Staples store was unable to print my document flyer that I created in mac "Pages" that I saved on my flash drive. Upon adding new songs to my library, iTunes creates a new folder, gives it the same name as the folder "above" and adds the songs I want to add in this new folder. I deleted the whole library. I have a folder "Greatest hits" with about 20 subfolders for each artist. I added the folder "Greatest hits" to the iTunes library, Itunes creates a new folder for every individual artists in the root directory, copies the songs as well but the cover jpg remains in the "old" folder...
What to do?
Can't find a playlist I created on my playlist or computer? I didn't delete it. I don't want to create it again because it took a long time.

I'm having trouble upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1. Earlier today, I opened iTunes, and received an error message that "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." Still not sure why this happened. I followed a workaround I found by essentially renaming a previous iTunes library. Now, I open iTunes, and when I click on "software update," it is indicated that I can update to 10.6.1. However, this takes me to the main Mac Software Update program, but unfortunately I'm told that there are no updates for my computer. The "current version" I am using is iTunes 10.5.1. how I can actually upgrade to 10.6.1?Â

So, my current Apple ID is under an email that I deactivated (it was hacked into). I wanted to create a new ID using my current email. But will I lose everything on my iTunes library if I get a new one? Meaning is my music and apps and whatnot saved to my computer or the application itself versus my Apple ID? I know that if I create a new ID that I can just transfer everything from my iPod to iTunes, but I have a 2G iPod Touch and it's a real pain in the neck when I sync it to iTunes (freezes/gets stuck/really slow). I use the newest version (10.6 I believe? Just downloaded it a couple of days ago) for Mac.

I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?
Looking for some advice as to how to find my iTunes library as I just installed iLife 08 with iTunes in the package but when I click on iTunes to load it up it comes back with this message "The file iTunes Library cannot be read because it was created with by a newer version of iTunes". Don't understand this. Now when I go into iDVD to create a new DVD and click on 'audio' I can see my old list of iTunes.
Anyone know how I could go about finding this and bringing this into the new iTunes 8 which was loaded with iLife 8. I'm almost 70 years old and not quite up to speed you might say. My problem re this is a lot of the library songs which were on iLIfe 6 version of iTunes belong to my daughter who does not have the internet so she comes over and uses mine for her iTunes downloads.
How do I delete genius mixes automatically created by iTunes on my iPad 2? I have never enabled Genius and do not want to use it. The Genius mixes do not appear in the iTunes sidebar; rather, they appear only on my iPad above the playlists I have created myself.
