IMac :: One Missing Pixel - Can't Do Anything
Dec 11, 2010I've heard in their disclaimer that you can't do anything about it but just knowing it's there is annoying.

This is the first time me owning mac and so far all have is problem....now im debating if i should get my money back or give it another shot since they reset your 14 days return policy from the day you did the return or maybe i can ask them to let me upgrade to mac pro with out extra cost since all i have was problem. but anyway, here is the picture to my stuck pixel. let me know what chu think.
View 4 Replies View Relatedthere is now one faulty pixel (red colour, ) i 've tried the Jscreen fix applet a few times as directed but it has made no difference. What do you think? Could the pixel right itself quickly, any other fixes?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI received my very first apple computer yesterday. It was the 27inch i7 with 8gig of ram. I turned it on for the first time and it looked perfect. When the loading wheel came up on the white screen I noticed a dead pixel right next to it. I looked over the rest of the screen and I could not find another one. I ended up calling and asking for a new imac. The first person on the phone said they usually only do replacements for 4 or more dead pixels. After I explained that it is right in the middle and I noticed it the first time I turned it on he forwarded me to someone else and they got me a shipping code. I not am waiting another week for a new computer. Is it normal for people to return their machines for one dead pixel? The guy on the phone made it sound like it was no big deal.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my new 24 iMac today. It's the new released model. After working with it some time now today i found a stuck pixel on the screen. I think it is stuck because it is bright red and not black. Is there anyway to fix this? I have tried jScreenFix without any luck. Is there anything apple will do with this? Spending this amount of money on a new computer it should not come with a stuck pixel...
View 24 Replies View RelatedIs there any easy way to tell whether I have a dead pixel or something under my screen? I have a small dot that shows up no matter what color I test the screen with (but is obviously harder to see with darker colors).
View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday I received my first brand new iMac 24". After a few hours I notice that it has one stuck pixel (in light blue colour, so I think it's not dead).I read Apple policy about 7+ stuck/dead pixels
My question is what can I do? If I want to return it, I will have to wait 1-2 weeks and then again play lottery with panel and HW (also that option would cost me additional EUR - I received 10% discount as a student and this is the only store where I have discount (and only for one computer per year I have 10% discount) - If they won't want to switch it, I would get back 1300EUR, while new one is 1500EUR in other stores).
Second option is to try fix that myself. I read tutorial on the net and the author claims 90% success with stuck pixels (with "massaging" pixel). The only problem here is the glass, I know how to remove it, but probably there would be a lot of new dust after doing that between panel and glass - and the imac is only one day old . I try with softwer and "epileptic" videos unstuck that pixel but it didn't worke (I try this for one hour). And the third option to simply forget that exists (is there a bigger chance to get another stuck pixel if I already have one???).
So as you can see, my new iMac has 1 dead pixel. How many does Apple require before you get it serviced? I don't have an Apple Store here, so I would have to pack it up, and it is somewhere where I would hardly notice it under most circumstances. I know it is only 1, literally 1 pixel that doesn't complete show white correctly, but all other colors.
View 24 Replies View RelatedI went and bought a new IMac today from my local apple shop. I get it home and it has a really annoying dead pixel on the left hand side of the screen.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a iMac 21" bought it back in November. When I have my desktop wallpaper showing there is one pixel that will only show white, no matter what background pic I put up. It's dead center in the screen so I was immediately irritated, then I noticed when I open Safari (or anything else like finder, apps, docs...whatever) the white dot goes away. I tried messing around with it and putting up black background and a white back ground and I don't understand how this is happening. No matter the color of the wallpaper I can still see it, even a white background. Links to screen shots [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor anyone who's spent time with the 27" iMac - how do you find the screen's pixel density?
I'm tempted to hand over my 2006 2.66GHz Mac Pro to my daughter and get myself a 27" Core i7 iMac for myself.
I'm 40 years old, and while my eyes are decent, I certainly find an ultra-high dot pitch uncomfortable to use for any length of time. For example, the 1920x1200 resolution on the 17" MacBook Pros is simply too small.
I am currently using a 30" 2560x1600 display and I find that acceptable, but not sure I'd want to go much tighter. I also have an HP laptop from work that has a 17" screen at 1680x1050 which I also find acceptable.
Anyone have any comments they'd like to share? I'll spend some time at the Apple store with a 27" display model for sure but often it takes more than a few minutes of play to determine if the screen will be alright.
i wrote a thread last week about some pixel issues. i've now figured out the cause of the faint pixel lines that have mysteriously begun to appear on the far left part of my screen. the pixel lines appear where i have had application windows up for an extended amount of time. saturday i had safari open for only an hour or two and a line developed on the left edge of the window, which remained there for several hours afterwards. i've also noticed lines develop on the bottom of the window as well. the pixel lines stay burned in for a couple hours and then slowly fade to normal. this makes my claim a little more tricky i think.
i've tried switching from a dark desktop background to a lighter grey, but the ghost lines still manage to show up if the computer gets used for more than just a brief period of time.
it's annoying and will probably only get worse, so i think it's time to head up to the apple store. what are my chances of them repairing/replacing my iMac? (it's less than a year old and therefore under warranty.)
I've had my iMac, 10.5.8 version, for over 2 years with no issues till now. Last week one of my Pages documents was missing and today another pages document. I searched using Spotlight and Finder but could not find them. The trash did not have them. Unfortunately I had not backed them up for a couple months. My girlfriend, who isn't very Mac knowledgeable, said she had not opened them.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been working on a wordpress site and the folder is under applications, however when I went to open it today, I can't find the folder? There is one under my user name, but it is empty, is that were it should be? (never paid attention to where I accessed it from) There is one in "Macintosh" under "Devices", but I'm sure the one I was using was somewhere else since I can no longer log onto my wordpress. Where SHOULD the folder be? and can I copy the one from "Macintosh" to that location?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed the Java update this morning and when I opened up my Macintosh HD later on in the afternoon I only had 5 folders when there used to be 6. When I went through time machine to figure out what the missing folder is it ended up being the Developer folder. I never use that folder, but I would still like to have all my folders intact.
Does anyone know if the Java update caused the Developer folder to go missing? If that folder is missing who knows what other app's or folders I have missing. I was able to restore of course from time machine, but I'm just curious on why it went missing in the first place. Does anyone have any clues/ideas?
A friend has a MacBook and it has a CD/DVD player application (software). I have a year-old iMac and cannot find the file - it is not under Applications and doesn't show up in Spotlight. Can I download it from someplace?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Aluminium IMac keyboard has suddenly begun to miss keys, the E,P,D,C and both the back and spacebar keys are completely dead. I wasn't using it at the time but each key supposedly went one after each other in under thirty minutes, I've checked mouse keys and speech settings as well as removing keys to clean underneath but they weren't sticky to begin with. Sorry for the lack of detail using the onscreen keyboard takes quite a while to type coherently.

View 2 Replies View Relatedusing my early 2006 iMac with an Intel Core Duo processor. I have read several guides online on how to access the processor (taking apart the case, etc), and I am confident I am capable of undertaking the task. After reading this guide I feel like I will be able to do it myself (with the help of my electrical/mechanical engineering friend (still hasn't decided his major yet! I'm a physics student, so I should be capable as well, ha! Anyways as you can see, that guide gives very little information as to what CPUs can be used. I looked up the processor that they used in the guide (the T5600) and all of the results came up for a mobile processor. I have heard in the past that most of Apple's desktops contained "laptop grade" hardware, so it would make sense if it contained mobile components.

It seems to be working again now, but there are 5 or so emails that just will not come through to my Mac inbox even though I can see them in the inbox on my phone...important work emails....concerned this may happen again and something will slip through the net.

I just got a new Mac, with Lion, but even though I keep reading about this awesome right click option for "slideshow" it does not appear on my right click context menu, I can do one via preview though. Any reason why its missing.
Also, when browsing folders with thousands of images (baby photo mania), what is
- the best program / app to quickly create slideshows, and contact sheets.
- the best program to be able to preview through them and have a single click option to move / copy / delete, I think an old PC app "ACDSee" used to have this, but I am new to the mac.

This is now the 4th time this has happened, but this time I have at least what I believe to be a cause. After a power outage of about 30 seconds this past thursday all of my printers attached to my imac have disappeared. Not only this, but when attempting to even press cmd p from any program that I could possibly print from slows down the system to a crawl, and eventually crashes. When going through system preferences the printers menu takes about 10 minutes even come up, and when it does, it's empty. When attempting to add a printer back the system once again slows to a halt eventually not responding. I've tried restarting multiple times, making a new user account (which worked for about 3 months the previous incident happened.) The only thing that has fully fixed this problem in the past was to re image the computer.

I did a software update last night and the firmware update attempted to install. Unfortunately, it errors out with the message:
Necesary resources are missing, corrupt, or do not have the correct permissions. Delete the iMac Graphics Firmware Update and re-download it and run again.
I booted my new 2009 iMac this afternoon and when it came up there was no taskbar across the top. I could not click on the icons on the dock either. the mouse worked and the desktop was there. I have a mouse on my Logitech keyboard and it worked so I know the keyboard did. I had no way to shut down so I held the button down till the machine powered down and it did in a second or so.
I waited about a minute and booted back up again and all came up like normal except the hard drive was running like crazy and the machine was super sluggish. After about a minute the hard drive quit running and all seemed normal.
I shut down like normal and then shut off the surge strip machine is plugged into to have a total power cut. Let sit about 2 minutes powered back on and booted machine and it booted like normal and acts perfectly normal. What caused the anomaly???
Never done it before and machine is about 2 months or old or so. Bought it as soon as new iMac's were released this year. It is the flagship 3.06 iMac. Bone stock. It has all the latest updates. Running 10.5.7
I'm just burning my CD library on my Mac. I have purchased a 7th gen iPod to then put them onto. All fine and going really well, but how can I put missing album artwork on those CD's that iTunes has no artwork for?
I've tried simply obtaining a jpeg image of the album cover and attempted to copy and past, also tried get info/artwork; neither works.
