IMac :: 27" IMac Pixel Density Versus 30" Cinema Display?

For anyone who's spent time with the 27" iMac - how do you find the screen's pixel density?
I'm tempted to hand over my 2006 2.66GHz Mac Pro to my daughter and get myself a 27" Core i7 iMac for myself.
I'm 40 years old, and while my eyes are decent, I certainly find an ultra-high dot pitch uncomfortable to use for any length of time. For example, the 1920x1200 resolution on the 17" MacBook Pros is simply too small.
I am currently using a 30" 2560x1600 display and I find that acceptable, but not sure I'd want to go much tighter. I also have an HP laptop from work that has a 17" screen at 1680x1050 which I also find acceptable.
Anyone have any comments they'd like to share? I'll spend some time at the Apple store with a 27" display model for sure but often it takes more than a few minutes of play to determine if the screen will be alright.

It was just announced a couple weeks ago and I'm thinking about picking it up. The price is right and the resolution / pixel density is outstanding. I know it's a TN panel and I don't want to turn this thread into a discussion about TN v. IPA. But from someone who has bought it, i'm very curious,

've got a 17" MacBook Pro, native resolution 1920x1200, which is quite high in terms of pixel density (132 PPI). I have a 24" external Samsung display, also 1920x1200, which means the pixel density is a lot lower (94 PPI). It works fine, but (as you might expect), screen items increase in size rather noticeably when I drag from the laptop display to the external display. (The 24" LCD Apple Cinema Display is also 1920x1200, so also 94 PPI and the same thing would happen). I've been looking all over the place, and I can't seem to find an external display in the 20-24" range that has a resolution higher than 1920x1200. Ideally I'd like to find a display with the same amazing pixel density, so everything is the same size on both my laptop display and on the external display. I don't know what that would be--probably something like 2048x1152 on a 20" or 22", and 2560x1600 for a 24". Even Apple's 30" Cinema Display at 2560x1600 (or what I imagine will be the new 27" LCD coming out later this summer, probably at 2560x1600) would suffer from this problem, because while the resolution is great, the screen size is so large that the pixel density would still be lower than 132 PPI and once again screen items would increase in size when moved from the laptop monitor to the external monitor. I don't really care about screen size or cost. I'd buy a 20" display, or a 30" display, if the pixel density were identical to (or at least close to) the pixel density of my MacBook Pro. Anybody know where I can find something like this?

I'm considering replacing my 20" iMac G5. Since the 24" iMacs start at 2K I am wondering if the 1300 dollar Macbook plus the 900 dollar 24" Cinema Display would work as a good substitute. Processing power will be more than adequate.
The main thing that concerns me is how well a laptop will work when inserted into my home setup. My iMac currently acts as a media hub in our household with multiple users using multiple user accounts streaming music around the house off an external USB drive. Everything is automatically backed up to firewire drive using Time Machine (its USB as well if I have to give up firewire with the new Macs). The iMac also syncs with the Apple TV wirelessly.
I know a Mac is a Mac is a Mac and all that these things should continue to work seamlessly... in theory at least. But unlike a Macbook, the iMac never physically moves and never is disconnected from its wired connections. Synching, backups etc all just happen. So does using a laptop as your primary machine throw a wrench into that system? I know if you open iTunes without the external hard drive your library gets auto relocated to its default position on your internal hard drive which means you have to go move it back each time you reconnect to the external drive.
I could envision all sorts of weird problems that might happen as a result of running the laptop both connected to and disconnected from a given network where things happen automatically. The last thing I want to deal with is corrupted Time Machine backups or auto-syncs that wipe my Apple TV clean because the iTunes library had been accidentally moved.

My screen has a dead pixel wich is always RED.
I have Apple Care until november, but maybe they won't even look at it as it's just 1 pixel...
Will it be covered?
will they fix it?
will they give me a new screen?
if they give me a new screen how long will it have warranty? 1 year right?
can i buy apple care for the screen if they give me a new one?

I just received a Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 Quad-Core Intel Xeon and 23-inch cinema display bought overseas through an Apple official house (though not an Apple Store due to low demand in my country) and I found out that the cinema display has one dead pixel.
Mi question is: should I try for a replacement (given that I should wait for it to be shipped from Apple) or is this among what is expected and reasonable?
I have heard that as the displays are larger, the amount of tolerable dead pixels increases, and for a 23-inch near 15 dead pixels are not a justified cause for a replacement. If this is the case, I should instead be grateful that I do not have 13 dead pixels.

The title says it all really... Quite a simple problem that I can't find any answer to!
I've hooked up my 30" Apple Cinema Display to the new iMac 27" and the highest resolution I'm getting as an option is 1280x800... The iMac correctly detects the ACD as a Cinema HD display but limits my resolution. Why oh why?!

Purchased a brand new 27" i7 imac a few weeks ago, display is awesome!!! I was using my old 28" LCD monitor from my PC and running dual displays on the iMac. The 28" LCD monitor annoyed me a bit because i could not get the same color/crispness/brightness that i got from the iMac. ( also it has a Matt screen and i am more into the glossy screens ) So i found a used 24" cinema display locally. Paid 600.00 and it came with 2 yrs of AppleCare. It is only 7 months old ( still have 5 months under orignal warranty ) Got home, hooked it up and it had a "hint" of yellowness to it, It wasn't a exact image of my iMacs display...I tried to calibrate it also, but it still had just a HINT of yellowness....Nothing at all major, but enough for me to be annoyed with it.

About 5 months ago I had my Mid 2006 iMac replaced with an Early 2009 iMac and on the whole I am very pleased with it except for one thing ... the glossy display.As our youngest has now commandeered my office I am now resigned to using the dining room which is fine except the only area for all my equipment is the wall opposite the window. The reflection during the afternoon and early evening when the sun comes through is driving me crazy. We have had blinds fitted which now help but still cast a lot of reflections and glare on the screen making reading difficult. I didn?t have this problem with the old matte iMac.An option would be to use a matte screen as a second monitor or even better a 30" Apple Cinema Display thus I can move the iMac out of the way.

I have the Imac Alu 24", 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo with a ATI Radeon HD2600 graphic card with 256MB VRAM. I will be buying a 2 year old apple Cinema display 30" tomorrow from a colleague and would like to know that my IMAC can easily handle supporting this display at its normal resolution and have a crisp and correct image on the larger screen. I know that this older version of the Alu Imac has the older video out display port, but I presume I can convert it to attach to this 2 year old screen as well. Is there something I'll need to do to get this to work?

As you can tell by the thread title I've got one of the latest model iMacs and I'm running an LED Cinema Display as a second monitor. When it gets to the late hours I like to watch some movies on the Mac so I figured the Cinema Display would be a nice addition to do the job.
Now here's my issue: if it's late and I'm watching movies I tend to not have any lights on, but having one of the displays on means having both of them on, what I'm wondering is if it's possible to sleep one display while allowing the other to stay active so I can watch the movie without the light from the other one distracting

I'm not quite sure I understand something. If I order a 27" iMac, I know I can use it as an external display and run a dual screen set up off my 17" macbook pro.
But I remember reading something about it not being convienent to do so?!?
Am I wrong here? Or missing something? It just seems like for a few hundred more I can have the best of both worlds.

I really want to replace my PC with an iMac. The only thing holding me back is my wife's HP Laptop that only has VGA out. She connects it to our 24" Dell LCD when she works at home.
Is there any way to get a video signal from a PC Laptop with VGA to an iMac?
I see that Apple sells a displayport to VGA connector but, as I understand it, this only works for converting a displayport signal into VGA not the other way around.

just bought my imac 27' i7 2 weeks ago and so far i returned it twice because of the tiny crack in the screen and this is gonna be the third time today because of the stuck pixel. This is the first time me owning mac and so far all have is problem....now im debating if i should get my money back or give it another shot since they reset your 14 days return policy from the day you did the return or maybe i can ask them to let me upgrade to mac pro with out extra cost since all i have was problem. but anyway, here is the picture to my stuck pixel. let me know what chu think.

I have a dual monitor setup at present with a 24 inch iMac (waiting for my 27" i7 to arrive) and a 23 inch Cinema display. The problem is that the height of the Cinema Display is much lower than my imac, I currently have it sitting on a couple of metal Oakley sunglasses cases to raise it to the same height as my iMac 24" but it looks messy - does anyone have any great solutions for raising the height of the 23 inch cinema display to align with an iMac 24 or even better 27?

What cable(s) do I use? The confusing part here is there are 2 flavors of DVI.
which one my 20" ACD has nor what the iMac can accommodate.

I have tried searching about this before but does anyone know if any half-decent (iMac / LED Cinema Display)-like speakers have been released. I was just curious if any company had released speakers with stands that look similar to the iMac or the new LED Display. I have seen the mStand that is basically a macbook stand that is designed like the iMac stand but i have not seen any speakers. If i ever thought about buying speakers i would like them to go with the new LED Display stand (not that i have one, nor a macbook for that matter but things can always change). I just like things to match, like black keys on the new keyboards and and some kind of aluminium+black color mouse. The speakers would have to have a stand that looked pretty much like the display stand (smaller of course) and the actual speakers should be aluminum-color too, possibly with a black bezel and a rectangle shape with curved corners, not round or anything.

1) I'm using mac pro early 2008 that make me must to buy Apple's 4870 or GT 120 to drive 24" ACD, that make all money I must pay for apple is around $944 (1-yr apple care) vs. Dell at $560 (with 5-yr warranty). is it worth?
2) I hate glossy screen but love a new ACD design very much. some people say 24" iMac screen (S-IPS) make his eye pain when using that screen for a long time do your guys think about this ?
3) my current monitor is 20" ACD, my new monitor must be better (or equal) than it. can your guy say 24" Dell is better than 20"ACD in term of color. (old S-IPS in 20" vs. S-PVA)

I am thinking of updating my home studio setup which is currently running a Macbook pro 13" 2.26 with 4gb of ram. I was first thinking of upgrading to an iMac with a 3.06Ghz processor and 27" display. However, I now think I might be ok staying with my MacBook and upgrading to one of the two displays;- The 30" Cinema display- Or the 24" Cinema LED displayAt nearly half the price I am leaning towards the 24" display. I am using logic and ableton. What does everyone think and anyone had any experiences running logic and or ableton with a MacBook and display.

The new Mac Pro only has 2GB of memory, and I'm going to need to up this for running FCS2 to a min. of 8GB.I was thinking about buying 2 x 4GB modules, but it appears that one 3rd party seller are advertising low density memory as being a selling point.Is this really a selling point, or will it make no difference? Should I just be choosing my 4GB modules on price and nothing else?

i own a 27" i7 iMac. I currently use a Hanns.G 28" LCD monitor that i used for my PC but not use it as a 2nd display for the iMac. Everything works great actually but the displays colors are just to different and tend to annoy me. The iMac is Clear, bright and Crisp, The Hanns.G is matt finish screen and though its bright, its a bit washed out looking and no matter how hard i try to adjust the Hanns.G in the monitor settings i cannot get the colors to look the same as the iMac. So i was thinking about getting a 24" ACD ( found one used w 2yr apple care, local for 600 ) and was curious will the display ( color, brightness and crispness ) look the same as the iMacs display?if i come out of sleep or standby, the Hanns.G looks really nasty until it warms up )

I'm thinking of getting a 24" iMac, though I'm used to using 2 screens. I know the iMac can connect a second monitor, though I'd like to know if anybody has used the new 24" Cinema display as the second screen.
I've read some reports that the 24" Cinema display will not power on if the MagSafe power cord is not connected to a device.
