View 4 RepliesI just bought a cheap (crappy) PC Laptop for my wife to use to browse the internet and so we can take along on vacations.I am trying to connect to the internet via my iMac's WiFi but cannot get it to work. I can be connected "on teh laptop" to my iMac's WiFi but the connection stops me from getting online.can grab another connection of someone else's wifi but i want to use mine. Not sure the proper steps to doing this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter downloading Yosemite, my computer (macbook pro) keeps disconnecting my home wifi. I had no problems with my wifi before and my roommates have no problems with it still (they do not have macs). This is only happening at home though, when I go anywhere else, my wifi stays connected. I have tried deleting/forgetting my wifi network and reconnecting, restarting my computer, i searched through my settings but I don't know what to do. It disconnects like every two minutes. When it disconnects and i go to reconnect, the wifi is still there and has full bars, my computer just doesn't stay connected to it.

While my Macbook connects and stays connected with no issue, the iMac dropps the connection and looses all Access Points every 30 minutes to an hour. This is becoming a real head ache as I do allot of Facetime / Webnars.Â

My macbook pro, running on osx mavericks, disconnects from wifi for no reason. This happens often, but I can't find a solution. I have tried making a new location and deleting all my networks in the network preferences. I have also uncheck "wake for internet access" in the energy preferences. I have reseted my computer multiple times.

It keeps dropping the signal about every 5 minutes, only on my home network. It's only this device too, since my phone and all of my roomates' devices are unphased. (streaming videos like it's no big deal)Â
This started happening after we lost connectivity with the snow a few days ago here in Seattle. I have tried all sort of troubleshooting, including the DNS thingy and restarting the router.Â

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.1, my MacBook Pro has been randomly disconnecting from the WiFi access point. Nothing has changed settings-wise, and none of the other devices have the same issue. Here's my log when it disconnects:Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac OS X 10.7.3 (purchased in late 2010) with all updates current. I use AirPort to connect to my Linksys router with a WPA2 password.
Nearly everytime I wake my computer from sleep, my wireless router is disconnected, even when I have set my settings and clicked on the lock to prevent further changes. My router always shows on the list of available connections with full strength, but it is more often than not extremely difficult to get it connected again. It says "Could not join "myRouter". A connection time out occured."Â I usually have to use the assistant and go through the steps, which usually includes re-typing my password four to five times before it agrees that I know my own password (which is fairly simple to type, I can't possibly be entering it incorrectly that many times).
I downloaded and installed an update [URL] that quote: "resolves an issue that may cause an iMac to not automatically connect to a known Wi-Fi network after waking from sleep. It is recommended for all iMac (Late 2009 or newer) users running 10.7.3." Â
I tried setting a new location, and set the DHCP setting under TCP/IP to be manual. I was successful in connecting to the internet that time, and locked the settings to prevent further changes, yet the first time my computer woke from a sleep, the lock was unchecked and the settings were changed back to automatic. And I was disconnected yet again.Â
This has been going on for months, but in the last couple weeks I have found I am now unable to lock the lock to prevent changes, no matter if my Location is set to automatic or one that I have created. Really looking for resolution as this is wasting so much time, I am on and off the computer multiple times a day.Â

For the past day of so I have been trying to backup my files, I am not using the Time Capsule but an external HDD for backups etc. But since the new update of 10.6.2 it keeps disconnecting my hard drive after about 10 seconds. I have tried to quickly do a disk utility check on it, but its not on the list. Is there anyway to get a new driver for it or something as i have important documents on there that need to accessed.

I'm having a problem with internet access at the moment. I've got a Time Capsule which is connected up to a Draytek Vigor 100 ADSL modem. In the past 4 or 5 days the Internet has been stalling to a halt. I've discovered that if I go into the Airport configuration utility and choose 'Renew DHCP Lease' on the Internet page everything starts working again.

I was looking and there appears to be 2 options
1. Airport Extreme Card Model MA688Z/B
2. Airport Extreme Card Model BCM94321MC
Which of these will work and which is best? At the same time I will also be upgrading the HDD to 640GB Samsung Spingpoint F1.
My wireless mighty mouse has been disconnecting from my new iMac quite frequently. The bluetooth on the menu bar still shows the three little dots like its connected. Since I don't have another mouse to connect when this happens, I have to jump on my laptop and use screen share to "disconnect" and then reconnect the mouse. The guy at the Apple Store that sold me my computer told me that his does this a lot. I thought he was crazy. My MacBook has never done this before. I'm using the exact same mouse that I used with my MacBook. Should I call up Apple and ask them to send me a wired mighty mouse because this happens so often and send them the unused one?

I recently purchased a Time Capsule to use as a wireless hard drive. I connect to the internet both through wifi and ethernet to a educational network that does not allow extra routers, etc, to be added to the network, therefore I can not use the time capsule for this wifi.
I therefore want to connect to my early 2009 MBP17unibody to both the academic internet network for http/pop3/ftp/etc while simultaneously connecting to external hard drive to store data/itunes-library/etc.
I expect this has been asked before but I can't find any threads where it has. If anyone knows it would be highly helpful. I'd prefer to connect to both wirelessly but I could potentially put up with connecting to either or both with ethernet.
MacPro wifi connection dropping from time to time I'm having a strange issue around my MacPro 1,1 2006. When I startup the computer, the wifi runs fine, good connection (all bars), fast response, etc... But something like 20 to 30min after that, the wifi logo still with all bars but even google doesn't load. So, my network is a modem and 3 routers, the first one is a Linksys that goes through cable to a Time Capsule 1TB (were the Macpro connects) and from there to another router in the floor above, a Pacific wifi. My Macbook Pro 15" connects perfectly to my time machine, but the MacPro have this issue.Â

I have a Feb 2008 MBP which died and I had some questions about restoring a similar state to a new i5 MBP. I do have the old hard drive (not sure if it works yet) and Time Machine backups.
I was wondering if it is safe to do a complete Time Machine restore because I do not know if any of the files are model specific (and the old laptop does not have the newest version of 10.6.x likely to come on my new MBP). Also, how can I preserve my boot camp partition? Ideally, I would like a slightly bigger boot camp partition on the new laptop, but with an exact clone of the data on the old one. I do know that Time Machine will not restore my Windows partition.
My girlfriend just moved into a new apartment where her roommate has the wireless network set up through a time capsule as the router. She was issued a IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad from work, and she wants to be able to use it at home to do work at night.
The Thinkpad can see the network, but it won't allow her to connect to it. It doesn't even prompt for a password. From the information that is displayed about the network, it looks as if it is only sending out an 802.11n signal. The only thing I can think of that would prohibit her from accessing the network is that the Thinkpad can't use the 802.11n standard?
How can I find out what wireless standards the Thinkpad can use? Also, I tried to use my MBP to configure the Time Capsule with Airport Utility, but I didn't know the password and her roommate said he doesn't remember it (I know the password for the network, just not the TC itself). If I end up resetting the TC from the button on the back, will he lose any data saved on the TC?
To begin with, I am using a WD (Western Digital?) external hard drive that I back up to wirelessly through an Apple wireless router. The hard drive is divided into three sections - one for each of two iMacs and one for my laptop. The iMacs back up automatically, but I manually start Time Machine for my laptop since it is not always on and not always in my home. I am having problems only with the laptop backing up - both iMacs back up to the HD just fine. Also, if it matters here, my laptop's internal HD recently crashed and I got it replaced at the Apple store, and restored it from a backup that did work two weeks ago.
Basically the issue is that I try to initiate Time Machine now with the proper partition opened on the external HD and it reaches 99% after a slow process of "Calculating Changes" and freezes there. This is true wirelessly and if I jack the laptop into the external HD directly with the cord. After several minutes, the fan starts up. After what feels like a pretty long time, it suddenly starts over in "Calculating Changes", reaches 99%, and once again freezes.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I am hesitant to blame it on getting a new HD, but that IS the only major thing that has changed since I last backed up. I am pretty sure it is a software issue since both iMacs back up with no problems.
