I am using at home an iMac connected ( with cable ) to my Home WiFi Router. All other products are using the same WIfI home network ( Without a cable ).Can I define my iMac to use ONLY MY HOME WIFI instead of other unwanted wifi networks ?

Is it possible to create a WiFi-Hotspot from my MacBookPro if it's connected to a WiFi-Network? The reason why I'm asking this question is because in my school you can only connect Laptops to the WiFi. So I thought, I could create a Hotspot from my Mac to connect my iPhone to the Internet/Mac-Hotspot.

I have recently signed up to BT Wifi so that I can access the internet on my Macbook while im out working. I can use it to access the internet and to receive emails, but it wont let me send them?

I use a 4G Galaxy Nexus to broadcast a private WPA2 network. The 4G signal is always strong, and I've verified that the internet is active on the broadcasting device, and that other non-Apple devices maintain a solid connection. However my macbook pro does not lose the network connection, the internet stops working only on the macbook pro and I must "turn Wifi Off" and back on using the top right menu icon in order for the internet connection to resume working on the laptop. It will stop working every 5-10 minutes.

Wi-Fi keeps dropping out when IPad works OK
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded to Lion and everything's fine apart from one problem: using my iPad to access home shared iTunes content on my mac no longer works when my mac is asleep. That's a change in behaviour from Snow Leopard; I used to be able to sleep my mac and then wake it over wifi using either my iPad or iPhone to access all of my home shared libraries.  The mac screen used to light up for ten seconds and then go dark again, but it served me the files.Â
Lion seems to go into a deeper sleep which it can't be woken from. Â If I attempt to wake my mac from my iPad within about ten minutes of putting my mac to sleep then home sharing seems to work and lets me use the home share libraries, but if I leave it any longer than that then the mac seems to fall into a coma and can't be woken. Â The weird thing is that I still see a "shared library" folder on my iPad, but when I click on it nothing happens. Â I think my Time Capsule is listening for wifi access and issuing the magic packet to the mac, but the mac just ain't listening. Â Â
I'm using a Time Capsule in bridge mode from an ADSL modem and I've accepted a TC firmware update last week and I'm on lion 10.7.3.  I've tried using Ethernet to connect the mac to the TC (and temporarily disabled the wifi connection) but that still doesn't work. Also, note I'm NOT suffering from the problem that 10.7.3 seems to be giving a few other people - my mac reconnects to my wifi just fine when I wake it up manually. For the record, This was an upgrade, so there's still a tick in "wake on network" in power settings and home sharing on iTunes is still configured the same as it was before.Â

Can I use my Mac book as a router for my Ipad?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Mac running Lion 10.7.3 and iTunes 10.6.1 and I have a New iPad that I just got yesterday. It has been updated to IOS 5.1.1. I can get it to sync only with the USB cable. I have verified that the iPad is on the same WiFi network as my Mac, and that Sync over WiFi is enabled on both the iPad and in iTunes. I have three other IOS devices that are syncing over WiFi without problems so I beleive I know what I'm doing. Maybe I missed a step?

for the last few days my wi fi cuts out. If I go to the diagnostics it turns back on. It says that my network configurations have changed but then allows me to access it. But the next time I go to use it it has gone again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an iMac running Lion hardwired to an internet connection and want to create a wifi network from this connection I have gone to 'create network' and set up - all seems fine. I have then tried to connect to this network with my iPhone. The phone recognises the network and it looks as though it has connected as it is ticked in the networks, but unfortunately it hasn't as my phone won't connect to the internet.Â

My brand new iMac will not stay connected to wifi. When I try to open Safari it says a wifi connection does not exist. When I diagnose the problem it connects to my wifi before I even get a chance to choose a wifie network to diagnose. This happens every single time.

Since installing Lion I lose my wireless internet connection frequently - only from the IMAC, not from the IPAD or Dell. I called support and after quite a lengthy "try this" session, I was told that this was a known problem. I can always get it back but sometimes have to unplug the router.

Before the 10.7.4 update the WIFI connection from the iMac 21.5" to the airport extreme router works fine!
Now it's failing several times a day! it looses the wifi connection and you are unable to see any wireless accesspoints or SSID's
Macbook pro, iphone & ipad + PC's still works fine!Â
The only way to get the wireless up and working again is to shutdown and restart the iMac.Â
In the log i can see alot, don't know if this is some clue or error occuring just after the wireless connection is dropped for unknown reasons.Â
"kernel: 2329.723808: ath_chan_set: unable to reset cannel XX (XX00Mhz) flags 0x10080 hal status 17"
"kernel: 2632.354892: ASSERT: Can not reenter VAP State Machine"
"kernel: AirPort: Link Down on en1. Reason 8 (Disassociated because station leaving)."Â
Turning off and on the wireless interface only shows the following in the log, and the wifi will not see any SSID's : "kernel: 71847.200440: switchVap from 1 to 1" Â

My brand new imac randomly disconnects from the internet. We have a BT hub - wifi. I have googled this issue and see that it is relatively common and it is incredibly frustrating. It is fairly simple to reconnect each time but it is driving me mad having to. It generally happens when the computer is asleep but sometimes in the middle of doing something.

My music library is on my iMac, located in a different room of the house than my home theater system with a decent Denon receiver and good Infinity towers. I have an iPod connector to the Denon which I can use, but the iPod has a limited library of songs, so I would like to somehow access my iMac music library and be able to play it through the home theater system. Hard wiring the components is out of the question due to length of run through several rooms of the house, no basement and cathedral ceilings. I already have my iMac and my Panasonic Blu-Ray player both connected to my wi-fi, and it seems there should be a way to connect both of them using the wi-fi. The blu-ray player is DLNA, but the Mac isn't, so that is out of the question. Is there any other way to get these components to talk to each other over wi-fi?

This problem never happens with my MBP - and it is running a CCC Clone of the same 10.7.x system. But whenever I restart my iMac 20.5" it never automatically connects at startup. I always have to touch the wifi symbol in the menu. After that I don't need to select my home network - it will then find it and connect. But until I do that it doesn't connect. This has happened ever since I've gotten this iMac. Also annoying is that the sound output upon startup always defaults to my Logitech headset regardless of how I left it set in Sound settings.Â

I have a Brother MFC-9340CDW WIFI printer which my iMac says it can't find sometimes when I want to print. I think I have narrowed the problem down to when my MacBook Air is on at the same time and using WIFI on the same network If I turn off WIFI on the MacBook I can print from my IMac. I am not sure if it is a router problem or what but we use the iMac and MacBook Air at the same time quite often. Checked on the Brother website - nothing.Â

My 2010 15" MBP has constant Wifi dropouts, sometimes minutes at a time. Sometimes I have to reconnect. Yet it gets 4 bars. My MacBook never had these problems. It's generally slower, too. It's now useless for online video like Hulu. Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether it's hardware (e.g. they moved the antenna, and/or because of the metal case) or software/drivers? I'm going to submit feedback after input from ya'll.
