I just got a refurbished iMac G5 from the university. When I got home I installed all of my applications. I then update them. Like usual, I have to restart the computer when they are done installing to complete the process, so I do. However, when I boot up the computer again I get a Kernal Panic. ("You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.")
View 4 RepliesI have a 2 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook with 1GB of SDRAM. I have OS X Tiger v. 10.4.6, and I just recieved Leopard v. 10.5.4, and I am attempting to install it. If it makes any difference, I have my harddrive partitioned - 40GB for OS X, and 30GB for Ubuntu Linux (8.10 Intrepid Ibex), and rEFIt to switch between the two. I booted into Tiger and popped in the Leopard installation DVD. A window popped open with an icon to install Leopard. I double clicked on this, and it told me to restart. So, I pressed the restart button in the window, and the computer restarted, automatically booting into the OSX DVD.
The Apple logo popped up, with the little spinning wheel. It churned for a few minutes, then it had a kernel panic: So, I did as the notification told me, and restarted. It automatically booted into the DVD again, and the same thing happened. Next time, as a booted up, I held the eject key down, and I was able to get the DVD out. So, I'm back to where I started, but I don't have Leopard installed. There are several minor scratches on the DVD, but nothing I would expect to mess with the DVD. Another thing: I popped in the Leopard DVD, and opened the Disk Utility after this fiasco, and verified the DVD. I got this error output:

Happy for my macbook pro for almost two years. Lately it's been unstable and freezes sometimes. Two days ago it went to kernal panic and shows kernal panic screen and asks for restart everytime it restarts. It won't start on DVD or safe mode (it just hangs there and keeps spinning). For single user mode, it first worked and I was able to remove login items, but it froze again and now generates the following panic log. All the hardware have been the same and I have installed vpn a few months ago and dropbox last week.

I called applecare today, they weren't any help they told me to reinstall OS X, so I am downloading the updates I need and it tells me to restart my computer, during the installation process the god dam computer freezes, I wait and wait, finally I decide to shut it off, now it keeps going to some kernel panic mode, wtf should I do, I demand a replacement, I've had problems since I got this computer, two logic board replacements, now this?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm in possession of a mac pro 2x 2.8ghz intel quad core running leopard. I have a main hardrive and a secondary harddrive. I was attempting to reformat the first hd and reinstall leopard. I pop in the cd as I have with many other systems, click the install startup and reboot, after about 4 minutes of waiting I see the black screen drop and it asks me to restart my comp, presumably a kernel panic error. I've done this with two different hd's to rule out it being an hd problem. I've also procured a friend's copy of leopard and the same problem occurs. The system was acquired from a local business that closed recently and sold off it's stuff which is how I came into possession of the system. It has no 3d party hardware that I can see. I find myself wondering if it is a problem with the motherboard and since the system used to be for business purposes perhaps there is some sort of block or lockout on the mobo that's preventing an installation.

Couldn't even click the desktop to activate the finder. Did a hard reboot. Now, the mac Icon comes up, then goes to a black screen, then to the MAC OSX start up window (bar doesn't move). Then a black screen with Darwin/BSD (new-host.home) (console) login: It just comes up with a line that ends with my user name and restarted then same thing happens.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a MBP, it had a flickering screen (graphics card), so I got it fixed under warranty, then about a month after the fix, the MBP refused to wake - I took it back again and it was fixed.
Now the MBP is experiencing repeated kernel panics - especially after the any system update - there were a few recently.
The only solution seems to be switching the machine off and letting it cool.
I turned up one day to teach using the Mac Pro and the message on the screen said I had to restart my computer. After many times I gave up. I wrongly thought the hard disk failed as one of the pupils saw some water underneath the Mac from the leaking roof. I checked and formatted the hard drive inside a pc and put Windows on it. After inserting the hard drive and the OSX into the dvd drive proceeded to re-install the software, only to find exactly the same problem as before. What to check next before trying to find someone to fix it.

My imac has started to have a kernel panic all the time lately. It is where the whole screen will go darker and then a box in all different languages comes up saying I need to restart the computer. I have a couple of questions in relation to this, first if I reinstall and then back up from timemachine will I have the same issue again? If I do a fresh install and reimport all my music and vids manually will that be a better way to do things?

The way to temporally "fix" the kernel panic is to restart the machine and boot into the instal disc, and run the disk utility (repair permissions, then repair disk). I honesty don't know what to do to stop the crashing (other than runing disk utility every day). This is never happened before now.

I'm having crazy kernel panics on my 1GHz iMac G4, every 15 mins or so. There was a power outage and it wouldn't boot up (stuck on gray screen) so the MacGenius wiped my hard drive and reloaded 10.3.5 (yeah I had 10.3.9 - old stuff). Before the MacGenius got to it, the Hardware extended test showed no memory failures, but now the Hardware test shows: memory error detected, 2 MEM/1/4: DIMM0/J22.
I can't get the software update to run, but the kernel panics happened when I had the latest updates (for the 10.3), so I don't think thats the issue (but another issue).
I have had the computer open before so I'm comfortable with crackin it open, but if I were to pull one of the ram cards, which one is DIMM0 ?
Is the ram bad? Is this causing my kernel panics?
Just got the new iMac quad core i7, purchased Windows 7 Home Premium and having trouble getting it to install using Boot Camp it goes through all the steps I partitioned 350 gig then formatted went thorough the install steps, it reboots and finishes the install, then reboots but nothing happens its just a black screen

I'm getting a kernel panic at start up and the optical drive wont read the start up DVD. I can boot up windows via bootcamp and the machine runs fine. I'm not getting any red LED's on my risers, so i'm assuming its not a RAM issue. I have a Mac Pro 8-core (2008) stock, just added 10 gigs of RAM.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI get kernel panics after a few min's of running the Mac pro. The ram are perfectly paired (2x 4gb in both slots, both in the first 2) and I get issues with it it seems. It started to happen as of today but didn't happen the days before. Nothing was changed in the configs or software.
