would it be possible to solder any wires to get power onto the USB ports on a G3 iMac? I have a blue 500Mhz model, if that would make any difference. the reason that I want to do this is because all of the iPods use USB now, and I would like to be able to charge mine while I am syncing it.
View 2 RepliesWell I have this problem on my iBook. At first I thought it was just my printer, but now I have it with my iPod. I plug anything in to the usb ports and it is connected by my ibook doesn't recognize anything I plugin. My iPod is sitting here on do not disconnect, but it doesn't show up on my desktop or in itunes. When I plug in my Epson printer and try to print, it wont connect to the printer, but the printer is on and the connection is good. They both work on any other computer in my house. I go into system profiler and when I click USB it just has the loading wheel going. That's all I get. The weird thing is that my mouse which is connected via the USB port does work.

When I plugged it in again the external harddrives (four in all) that were daisy chained through the two firewire ports aren't being recognized anymore. I thought it was a bad cord or insufficient power but nothing worked. When I finally got around to looking at the System Profiler and check Firewire it said, "Unable to list firewire devices". I admit that I'm at a loss and I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a Powerbook G4 that has a booting issue. I will hear the startup "dong" a whirl of the drive, then it doesn't go to the grey screen with the Apple. It just sits there with a black screen.If I wait a few hours and try it, sometimes it starts up fine, or sometimes it will sit on the grey screen with the Apple symbol and do nothing.If it does boot correctly, none of the USB ports work. Any ideas on if its worth trying to repair since its 2 and a half years old and I didn't get the Apple Extended Service plan?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy friend just got a 1.25GHz MDD but he says he is having problems with it. He says that when he starts it up, his mouse light (sensor) flickers and the keyboard does not work. The only way to fix this is to unplug and replug in the peripherals. He also tried on his Studio Display connected via ADC and the same thing happens. Could a PCI USB card help his problems or is there some way to fix the current USB ports?

I first noticed this problem when i plugged in my ipod, it would not open itunes, appear in itunes, the desktop or finder. i managed to resolve this problem by reinstalling itunes and plugging in my ipod before i turned on the computer, but i can not change anything as it gets stuck while syncing with my ipod and says that my ipod is disconnected, i reconnect but the ipod not not appear on the screen.
I occasionally have trouble charging my iPhone via my iMac USB ports. I plug in the iPhone, the screen indicators change to show that the phone is charging (green battery indicator and the lightning bolt symbol). However, when I come back to the phone several hours later, the charge indicator hasn't advanced any. For example, if the indicator showed half-full when I plugged it in, it remains half-full.
The iMac does go to sleep a few minutes after I leave it, but sleep has never precluded an iPhone battery charge on my MacBook, and most of the time it works on the iMac.
Is there anything, besides shutting down a computer, that causes a USB port to unpower while the iMac is sleeping? Does it matter whether I am logged in or simply at the login screen?
I recently went away for the weekend and when I came back my USB ports don't work. When I first start my 24" iMac the mouse lights up but then goes off later on when it's booting up. I really don't know what to do and i'm not even sure if I got any discs with my iMac as it had Leopard preloaded...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a aluminum iMac, which has been working fine until now. A couple of hours ago I restarted it and went and did something else for a couple of hours. I then came back to find my keyboard and mouse not working, I double checked and they were both plugged in fine (I use the aluminum apple keyboard and a kensington mouse). I restarted my computer but it still did not fix the problem (I was still stuck at the login screen). I thought it might be the USB, so I plugged my iPod in, and it did not charge. While my iPod was still connected to my computer I restarted it again and as soon as the screen turned grey my iPod started charging and my mouse worked (the light turned on), but only until the grey apple logo appeared and it then stopped working again. I have tried every USB slot and none of them work. I'm pretty sure my computer was completely updated as well.

However, I have never liked the bluetooth keyboard - namely, the lack of easily accessible usb ports. Not having those two usb ports on the keyboard is equivalent to the old-style pc towers that had the usb ports only in the back. It just doesn't make sense. With the bluetooth keyboard, I found myself always reaching around to the back of the imac body. So I went back to the wired keyboard.

Before i got my imac i seriously considered a g5 dual 2.0, but the money wasnt there. I see an apple refurb dual 2.0 for 1599, and im sure i cud get one a lot cheaper used here or on another board. The intel iMac was made in late 2006 and the iMac G3 was made in 1999, 1998 or 2000.
The Mac Pro only has 2 400 and 2 800 ports. and I was wondering if there was a way to get more, or split them. I have a lot of externals and an isight, etc. Or maybe a solution is daisy-chaining harddrives, does anyone know anything about this, or how to do it.. I'm afraid to experiment with my data.

I've opened the required ports except for 88 in my router because it uses that for services (friggin belkin). I'm still getting a strict NAT on my xbox and I should have a Moderate NAT if I have every port but 88 open. I know that Tiger had a setting for port forwarding in system preferences, but for the life of me I cant find it in snow leopard. Does anyone know how I could forward the necessary ports?

If I bought a usb hub would this enable me to plug the transrecievers into the hub so I would have 1 usb port free? Im considering returning them and getting logtech's unifying transreciever, but they have no small keyboards that are compatible with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden a few days ago, I realized that my keyboard was not working. It was plugged into my 23" ACD. So I unplugged it and put it into my Mac Pro. It worked. So I decided that my ACD's USB ports were not working. A phone call to AppleCare and he told me to take the display for repair to the Apple Store. I just did that, and the USB's worked fine in the store. I take it home, still does not work. So I thought my USB ports on my Mac Pro must be bad. But everything else I plug into all three of the back ones works just fine; but my ACD does not. In the store, he used all of my own cables / power adapter. Why is my USB not working for my ACD but it is for everything else?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just moved into a new apartment with my roommate and we got a new router - a Dlink DIR 615. For some reason, I can't seem to open the necessary ports for Transmission. I've been forwarding ports for Transmission forever now, and it always works. I've never done it, however, on a Dlink router - it's always been Linksys. Is there any difference between the two? Included is a screenshot of the settings. And to avoid all the obvious (I think) questions, I do have a static IP address, I have indeed set the right ports on both the settings and Transmission, and I have enabled everything (again, I think). I'm obviously missing something, but I have no idea what it is.
