Jun 17, 2014But I have another problem with a large important file that has gone missing. About a fortnight ago I went to open a personal file of which I call Favorites, I could not find it, I looked in my backup, Time Machine and it had disappeared there as well. Then a funny thing happened while I was trying to save a file, the lost file appeared in the file selection box. I clicked on it and it opened all the to the folders inside, but of course I could not open the folders in the save file. I then went looking again for the file but to no avail. how I might get this file back, it must be dodgeing around somewhere.

Sep 11, 2014 I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.

IMac (Intel) :: Can't Open File On External Hard Drive
Aug 29, 2014I'm using an external hard drive for mac backup and also to store photo files. I copied some photo files to the drive about two weeks ago and their icon appears, but when I want to open them, I get an error message: "The alias “...” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." There is also a small arrow on the icon. My other files can be opened okay.
What's also strange is that I found the icon of the external drive in the folder with the picture files, even though I did not drag it there (the main icon is till on my computer's desktop, where it should be.) That icon also has a small arrow on it. When I click on it, it opens and I can see my folders, but the photo folders with the arrow on it will still not open.
I tried ejecting the drive and reconnecting it, but it didn't work. Is there anything I can do to recover the missing photo files, or are they most likely gone? I have deleted these pictures from my computer hard drive. What should I do about the mysterious second external drive icon? Delete it or keep it? Can I somehow use it to restore the photo files?

Apr 25, 2010I have a Mac Mini working as a local serverHTPC and a MBP that I do my daily computing on. I also have a D-Link NAS drive that is plugged into my wireless router. Currently, the Mac Mini has nothing really on it, all the media is stored on the NAS drive. The Mini just mounts the NAS volume and serves up the media that way.
However, I recently followed the steps here [URL] to set up remote access to the Mini. That works fantastically. However, I CANNOT figure out how to access the NAS drive through the Mini. The NAS drive does not have WAN access, so I cant get it directly when I am away from home. Rather, what I expected to do was to mount the Mini (which had the NAS already mounted to it) and then I would be able to access all of the Mini's files as well as the NAS's files through it.
Alas, that does not seem to be the case. Although when I remotely mount the Mini I can access its files, as well as any LOCALLY attached drives (think usb HDDs physically attached to the Mini), but I cannot get to the NAS (even though its already been mounted). Whenever I try to select the NAS drive on the "file sharing" options on the mini, it never lets me select it, its all greyed out.

Aug 9, 2010I am on an IMac - system 10.4.11. Voice over started unprompted - driving me nuts - and I fixed. But in doing I discovered an errant file with a warning attached. File is MacOSiaX2.oa7.dmg, When I try to open it warning appeared says that the file may be damaged and opening it may damage system can/should I trash - and how best to clear up - concerned it might cause more oddness in the future.

Feb 7, 2012I got a DVD file in ISO 9660 (Joliet) format. I tried to play it in DVD player but I always get the notification ”the media is not supperoted”.
When I open the folder i have two subfolders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The first one seems to be empty, the other one has files with extensions .bup, .vob, .ifo.
I read on the community that ISO files can be read on Mac but I don't know how.
