I received an email attachment with a .pub file extension, but my MAC can't open it. I saw that some users had success with ZamZar or Adobe sites, but I can't access them since the file won't download.
I have received a .swf file in an email and I don't know how to open it. Can someone help? I have an iMac Intel 2 Duo, OS 10.4.11, I have the current Adobe Flash Player. The file attempts to open in Adobe Illustrator CS but mesage says file type not recognized. Have tried some other things but with no luck. I am sure that it is a simple thing but it has escaped me.
I'm having troubles when opening my email on my iMac. It doesn't works at all. Seems to me that its already opened, because there's this white dot underneath the Mail sign, but i can't reach the mail page.
I just download the CD and am getting "unable to expand "xxxxxxx.zip" into "Music". (Error 2- No such file or directory). I then tried to open it in StuffIt Expander and it say the archive may be damaged. Could you direct me on how to make this work. I'm running the newest verision of lion on a 2006 iMac.
I was filming a video in Photo Booth from my webcam, and I assumed that quitting Photo Booth would stop the recording. I was wrong. It seems to have not closed the file properly, and now I am unable to open the file or do anything with it. how I can recover it and make it openable?Â
I got a DVD file in ISO 9660 (Joliet) format. I tried to play it in DVD player but I always get the notification ”the media is not supperoted”.
When I open the folder i have two subfolders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The first one seems to be empty, the other one has files with extensions .bup, .vob, .ifo.
I read on the community that ISO files can be read on Mac but I don't know how.Â
Although my husband can open an .MPEG video file from my Sony DCRSX40 camera on his older PC, I just cannot oepen any of them on my new iMac. (They play well in the camera). QuickTime give me the error message that I do ntot have the proper video codec.

But I have another problem with a large important file that has gone missing. About a fortnight ago I went to open a personal file of which I call Favorites, I could not find it, I looked in my backup, Time Machine and it had disappeared there as well. Then a funny thing happened while I was trying to save a file, the lost file appeared in the file selection box. I clicked on it and it opened all the to the folders inside, but of course I could not open the folders in the save file. I then went looking again for the file but to no avail. how I might get this file back, it must be dodgeing around somewhere.
I can't open a silverlight dmg file to watch netflix. I am running Lion on my 2.66ghz iMac i5 with 10.7.3. I can download and install silverlight but when I try to open the file, it always opens the Terminal window.Â
I work all day on my MAC 27" and am constantly opening files....Â
But how do I customise the 'open file' window. Every time I open a file I have to increase the size of the window, change the view and then look for my files.... is there a way to set the default view to what I would wish it to be?Â
I have enclosed a screen shot of the default open file window.... I would like a bigger window...... and be able to see 'list view' as opposed to icons each time.Â
I'm using an external hard drive for mac backup and also to store photo files. I copied some photo files to the drive about two weeks ago and their icon appears, but when I want to open them, I get an error message: "The alias “...” can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found." There is also a small arrow on the icon. My other files can be opened okay.Â
What's also strange is that I found the icon of the external drive in the folder with the picture files, even though I did not drag it there (the main icon is till on my computer's desktop, where it should be.) That icon also has a small arrow on it. When I click on it, it opens and I can see my folders, but the photo folders with the arrow on it will still not open.Â
I tried ejecting the drive and reconnecting it, but it didn't work. Is there anything I can do to recover the missing photo files, or are they most likely gone? I have deleted these pictures from my computer hard drive. What should I do about the mysterious second external drive icon? Delete it or keep it? Can I somehow use it to restore the photo files?Â

When I try to open an adobe file online my internet browser shuts down, and displays an error message stating unexpected error adobe cool type plug in. I'm not sure what they are referring to. I have tried to reinstall adobe with no luck.
Whenever I open a pdf, adobe starts to open every pdf file on my computer. Does anyone know of any way to stop this? I couldn't really find anything on search. I am running OSX 10.6.3
Today I tried opening my keynotes presentation file to make amendments to it and when I double clicked on it, the program loading bar only loaded up a third of the way and then hanged. I then tried to save it to a flash drive and use it on a different computer, but when I tried to copy it over to the flash drive it gave me this error: "the finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "garment styles" could not be read or written error code - 36".
I have tried changing the file extension to a zip, then unzipping it and then renaming it but that did not work.(It wouldn't let me unzip it). I have also looked at the index file name to see if that was the problem, but that is as it should be.
I have also tried uploading it to a website and emailing it and it will not let me.
Is there anyway I can recover this file as I have been working on it for over a month and it is due next week, or will I need to start again?
ok trying not to get a panic attack here. I downloaded espionge to encrypt my valuable files and while it was encrypting (AES 128 bit i think) the program froze and I had to Force quit it. Now I try to open my file (that i was trying to encrypt) and it looks f*^&# up. I can't open it, and when I tried to unmount the partially encrypted file, espionage gave me errors that it couldnt recover the original file.
I had basically all my life's valuable accumulated data in that folder (it was 10 Gb+). I will praise anyone to the end of my days that can somehow tell me how to restore my file to its original state. Usefull info:
1) AM planning to pay gazillions for recovery software if need be, but free alternatives are always better.
2) I never secure delete if that helps
3) I still have the .sparseimage for the file created by espionage. (P.S. sparseimage's size looks really close to the orignal, also 10 Gb +).
4) Newest version of OSX, and have an IMac.
5) after incident I haven't done anything (no installations or downloads) apart from writing this.
6) the encrypted file was gonna be in HFS+ i think
I got a file named myfile.dat from my supervisor and he said myfile.dat is a helix database file. I tried to open that file after installing helix server 6.1.5, but I couldnt open it. I am really in a confusion that whether the given file is helix format file or something. Can anyone tell me that how to open *.dat file or how to identify the format from the file extension.
