Intel Mac :: Core 2 Duo 17" Doesn't Start Anymore - It Only Stays At The Loading Screen?
Apr 15, 2012My 2006(ish) Intel core 2duo 2.16 mhz 20" imac wont start up, it only stays at the loading screen, how can I fix this? I have tried:
• safe mode reboot
• restart using p, r , command and option (resetting the pram)
• restart using the original Mac OS 10.4 disc
• restart so I get the image of the HD but I can't click on it to continue and restart again! • single user mode (CMD+s keys at bootup, and then /sbin/fsck -fy)
It just doesn't do anything else than display the grey screen, the apple and the spinning wheel (sometime, I do get a scrolling bar also!). I managed to perform a hardware test from the Mac OS disc and there seems to be no hardware problem. Nothing works.It stays stuck on the grey screen, with the apple and the wheel turning endlessly.

Oct 19, 2009I recently installed the 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate operating system onto my MacBook Pro 13 inch. I have the most basic Macbook Pro 13 inch with nothing fancy added. Whenever I load up the Windows 7 OS on my Macbook, it never utilizes or even realizes that I have the NVIDIA graphics card in my laptop. It instead believes I have some integrated graphics card that cannot even run the most basic of PC games. I know my laptop can run these games because on OSX it runs multiple games with higher requirements than these games I am trying to run on Windows.
Basic question: How do I get bootcamp or whatever else to make Windows 7 realize I have a NVIDIA card and drivers. Sorry if I am coming off as stupid or confusing.

Jan 28, 2010I've got this little problem with my 2months old iMac i5 since this morning. Yesterday everything was fine, I Watched a movie and updated some software, nothing illigal or damaging. Today I tried to boot my iMac, It showed the apple loading screen, with some kind of loading bar under it. I thought he just had to do that because of the update, so I decided to make breakfast and come back to check on it. When I came back, the bar was gone, but he was still loading! (15 minutes later). So I decided to reboot. still the same problem. I decided to boot from cd to see if this works, to select the startup drive. First I tried to fix the hard drive, but it is unable to fix it. I don't care to format my mac, but would like to know if there are other options to try first.

Aug 23, 2014I have a library of high end clip art and photography from Liquid Library 2003/2004. I've never had any problems using them with my system yet yesterday my iMac spit all of them without loading them. I even cleaned them and tried again. They still would not load. There is nothing on the CDs that should conflict, they are just jpegs, illustrations and photos created for using with high end graphics. Is there a reason this happened suddenly?

Jun 11, 2009I have an Intel IMAC, which is now out of warranty as I have had it for 16 months (and I was dumb enough not to get AppleCare). A few days back, my computer would not startup and everytime I hit the power button, I would hear some spinning noise but no chime from the iMAC. Yesterday, I tried it again and this time I heard the chime but the monitor did not start. I was then able to SSH into the MAC and see that it is indeed connected to the network and booted up, but the screen is still dead. Any ideas what I should do before the painful trip to the apple store ?

After each input, e.g. opening preview or a browser, the coloured turning disc appeared and nothing happened anymore. Several restarts, also in safe mode, were unsuccessful. I could not switch to another user. Restart is only possible at all from installation disc but thereafter problem remains the same.

Sep 12, 2014I have a 2010 iMac that won't start when I press the power button. No chime, no fan running, nothing. I tried unplugging it and plugging it into a different power source which made no difference. I made sure the power cord connections are good. We recently had an 8 hour power outage at my house and this is the first time I tried to power the iMac up since the power outage (it was working fine prior to the power outage). Of note, my husband's iMac started up fine after the power outage.

However, it loads at startup, and I have no idea how to prevent it from doing so. There's no option to configure it not to, I have tried looking for an entry in StartupItems and Login Items of my Accounts preferences. It is located in the Preferences Pane, its not really a standalone program.

Oct 25, 2009So, when using bootcamp today I was installing Republic commando for PC. While it loaded, it froze. So I turned it off and back on, but the windows parition wouldn't start up while loading. Neither did mac, unless I used the safe boot. It wouldn't detect my mouse, and I had to replug it. And finally, I discovered my sound didn't work. It shows that its at top volume, and its locked, with a transparent volume icon. So I can't listen to anything, use my windows parition, and I have to use safe boot (which takes about five minutes) to start up my mac parition. Is there any way to fix this?

Jun 28, 2012I have two external hard drives attached to my MacBook Pro (running Lion) using a powered USB hub. What is the best procedure to use when shutting down the computer at the end of the night, and when turning it on the next morning. I didn't turn the computer off much when I used Snow Leopard so I can't really say that it has something to do with Lion, but I'm using Lion now and I am shutting down every night. Every morning when I turn the computer on the external hard drives don't load. I have to disconnect all the wires from the hub then first reconnect the hub to the computer, next the power to the hub, then the hard drives one at a time as they load. I would like to turn the computer on and have the external hard drives load automatically.
