Final Cut Pro X :: 10.1.2 - Chapter Marker Thumbnail Pin
Aug 29, 2014
According to the FCPX 10.1.2 User Guide (pg.153) a thumbnail pin associated with each chapter marker allows to select the image that will show up in the exported menu for that marker.
Well, after adding the chapter marker I find the pin in the timeline, I move it to select an image but: 1) nothing changes in the FCP X viewer, which does NOT show the selected image, and (worse) 2) in fact nothing happens in the exported movie: Share/Export File (added) with Format: computer, Video Codec: H.264 Faster Encode, Resolution 1920x1080.
The export fully works, all chapters are there in the right position, but each chapter is associated with the frame under its marker, NOT the frame I selected for it using the pin (which lays ignored on the frame I chose...).
Well: almost "fully" works: it can be played only by Quicktime X, not Quicktime 7. Not a big issue. And probably this has nothing to do with the pin problem... Is there a way to make it work as in the user guide?

I have the latest iMovie. 2014 version. I want to make a music DVD. To access individual songs, chapters are needed. The latest iMovie doesn't have chapter creation. I know that iMovie 9 allows making chapters, but when I tried that, it worked, but the quality of the movie suffered. The picture quality looked less clear. I will download the trial version of Final Cut Pro X..The chapter creation in iDVD is not good enough and I can't find any other DVD creation software that does it.

I have a lot of projects, I go to browser filmstrip view -- some projects have thumbnail images as a reference, others just black.
Is there a way to set the thumbnail/poster image for individual projects filmstrips? Or a way to reset the project somehow so that it grabs an image from a project's video and uses that as a reference poster frame?
It's nice having visual cues of a projects content in the browser window and it's driving me crazy that 1/2 of my project's show up as black.
I have a corrupt quicktime camera file.I think its something as simple as it didn't get the end of file marker. It was recorded on a Contour camera that hit the end of the memory card.I can open the file and play about 75% of it through VLC (the end of the file crashes VLC), but no quicktime or other related programs I have will even try to open the file.

when I'm recording/playing a track in Garage Band, I would like that when the "current position" marker reaches the end of the visible area, the view moves to the right so that I can still see what is currently being played.
After some trouble with sending word documents trough Entourage I discovered that my boss' Macbook with OS x 10.4 and Word 97 has a W97.Marker virus problem. Identified this to [URL] and ClamXav.
Every new word document I create on this computer will be created with the Markervirus in the document as a default. I thought this was impossible since supposedly the Marker virus was meant to be PC only thing.
Furthermore, although this problem started exactly two weeks ago ClamXav is identifying the virus in a large number of older files as well. Can the Marker really infect 'dormant' files that are not in use? And moreover, is there a way to 'cleanse' the older infected word documents?
This is an extension of the 'Best DVD Copy Program' but I figured this would warrant it's own thread.
As stated in the other thread, I'm ripping all my DVDs to take with me to college. I'm using handbrake to rip h.264 movies. Now I want to add chapter markers to my movies. Is there any online database that has chapter marker timecode and names for DVD movies that I can use as a reference? I know that you can pull the timecode from the DVD itself, but i have some DVDs that do not list the names of the chapter markers.
There are following problems with two PDF Files. When I open the PDF with preview 5.0.3 in main window there is an other chapter as I have mark in the sidebar. There is allway a different of one chapter between mainwindow and sidebar.
This failure are in two PDFs.The PDFs are manuals of DEVONthink, not the help of DEVONthink. There is no problem when I open this PDFs with Acrobat Reader 9.5.0. Sidebar and main windwow the same chapter when I mark it in sidebar.
I use Mac OS X 10.6.8. Can someone give an explanation of this bug ?
I just ripped some TV episodes from DVDs I have with Handbrake, only to realize that the episodes dont have chapters. This means that since the Create Chapter Markers or whatever button was checked, I still get a chapters button, with only one chapter. I wish Id just unchecked it, but at this point, is there any way to just remove the chapters?
What does the padlock on the lower left of a file's thumbnail really mean when viewing the contents of a folder?
I assumed it meant the file was locked, but some files I lock do not show the padlock.
I have a folder of jpg files. All are owned by me and when I click the "Locked" check box in the Get Info dialogue box only a couple of files will show a padlock.
I have just upgraded from W7 to iMac :P Yay. Just trying to organise my files again and get used to the new system, one thing I can't work out how to do tho is set a picture as a movie thumbnail. On my W7 I used to have all the movies DVD cover's there so I could flic thru them, and once I choose a movie clicking on the picture would open the movie - I dont know if this was a picture that acted like a short cut or what, however with the Mac cover-flow view it would be really handy to have this back again instead of the thumbnail being of the first few seconds of the movie or the VLC cone...
My images won't display at all for some reason..I noticed this earlier but I thought it was just one folder..seems its my whole computer. .PSD files display, but .jpg or any other picture format don't seem to display correctly. I have "Show Icon Preview" checked, so I'm not sure what else could be happening. They don't display in the cover flow feature either..but if I hit the spacebar while on an image, it will display
I don't know it this possible but the thumbnails in leopard are too small even on the max but I noticed that when you do a search for photos in thumbnail mode you can scale it to a very large size. Do you know how do imake the thumbnails looks bigger in finder while normal browsing not searching?
All my movies in iTunes have a dvd cover image I've downloaded. However, one particular movie just won't hold onto it - after pasting it into the info box and clicking ok, the thumbnail will be there and then, a second later, vanish.
is attached to word documents. a friend rid it from my husbands resume which he was trying to upload to monster. there doesn't seem to be a program to get rid of it on a mac. so everythng i open just gets infected on my 3 machines. other than taking it to a pc and running the program my friend had, is there a (program) that will allow me to get rid of it? i know it doesn't affect my machine but pcs will not take these docs. I don't work in word, just use it to open client documents and copy into quark.
I'm on Windows 7 atm, I've noticed for a while, that when I hold my mouse over safari 4 in the task bar, the thumbnails pop up of each tab but all but the selected tab are black!
So if I have 3 tabs, and I am in Tab 1, hold my mouse over safari 4 icon, I see tab 1 preview, but tab 2 and 3 are black, if I am in tab 2, tab 1 & 3 are black, and tab 2 is just fine.
I open Mission Control up, have a few desktops and full-screen apps open. However, when I hover my cursor over a thumbnail, no 'X' appears. How do I close a thumbnail in Mission Control?
"Jack" when on "Jill's" computer without her knowing and altered her desktop "organizing" system. Now, some of the icons/files show the Preview paper icon with the arrow (from the attached image) and won't open at all.
After upgrading to 10.5.6, the vast majority of my recently created, saved, or altered image files (JPEGs and PNGs, mostly) no longer feature a thumbnail preview image while in icon preview view mode. Rather, they merely display generic icons indicating what kind of file they are.
This is unbelievably frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this?
EDIT: It effects old (read: not recently created, saved, or altered) image files as well. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which image files are affected; one folder will display thumbnails, the next will be full of generic icons.
PS, this is not an iPhoto issue. All my iPhoto images have thumbnails, as per usual. This issue concerns image files in folders and on the desktop.
Why do some images not display a little thumbnail in finder when viewing in a list format, but they do in all other viewing modes?
And some images will have a thumbnail, and then when I rename the file to organize my folders, etc, the thumbnail disappears, sometimes from Cover-flow ode also. Which I also don't understand.
Similarly with videos, why do some videos not display a thumbnail/screen-cap in any view mode, when other videos, which as the same file type do?
Finally this is only a recent problem for me, but more serious than the aforementioned issues. I've had some images/files, that show an in correct thumbnail/cover-flow image. It shows one thing, but when you open it, it's actually a different picture. Mostly it happens when I rename an image, but its also happened just normally.
Is there a specific cause that I can fix, or is it just one of those things where you run the maintenance scripts, turn you computer off and let/hope it fixes itself?
Any way to do that? I simply find it a hassle to click on -show view options, increase the size of the icons (128x128) then quit the menu to view my photos.
I know about the "actual size" button, dragging from the desktop instead of using iPhoto, checking outgoing size with control-click Quick Look, Send Windows-friendly attachments, etc., but none fix the problem. All JPG attachments get reduced to thumbnail size. I have to zip them and the recipient then needs to decompress them to get the full size images.
Is there a way to reset all preferences without uninstalling/reinstalling? I don't want to have to archive/export mailboxes and then reimport.
I upgraded to imovie 08 last year and have not been able to learn how to use it. As I still have imovie hd, I opened a new project in the old imovie hd and imported some photos and movies (.mov) files. When the movies and photos came in, each thumbnail is shaded in green. I cannot see through this green shading to the photos or movies at all. Even when I click on the thumbnail of either a photo or movie it just comes up as a large green square, however when I 'play' the movie file from the clip viewer I can see the contents of the movie. As soon as I stop playing it, the clip goes back to having the green shading over the top. Have you heard of this before and is there anything I can try to fix it. I have looked in the forum but cannot see anything specific to this problem
I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).
How well will the new 24" 3.06 with a GT 130 run Final Cut Pro when dealing with HD footage?
If I remember correctly, FCP doesn't pull much resources from the gfx card, but that's just my memory, not factual knowledge that i'm pulling from. Currently, when working in FCP I have been working with Mac Pro's, but would like to have a Mac of my own that way I can get some work done when i'm at my house as well.
I work mostly with 1080i footage and most of my projects end up being anywhere from 30 seconds to about 45 minutes long.
I know that FCP asks for you to have 2 gb for HD and SD footage, then 4gb ram for uncompressed HD footage... the 3.06 comes with 4 gb, so i would think that to be a set deal... i'm just still kind of in a rut while making this decision.
Does anyone currently have a iMac (new or old) and do any type of video renders that can get to be lengthy? If so, how well does the iMac hold up?
