IMac :: Changing Desktop Shortcut To Another Function Key
Jun 4, 2010
I know the 'show desktop' shortcut is F11 (which means pressing two keys to show this fn+F11). Can I change this shortcut to F13? so i can just press one key to bring up the desktop?

my iMac keeps reverting after i'd say 2-5 minutes to the original default Snow Leopard background. I used to run a theme which changed every 15 minutes but since turned it off now it won't have any of it.

Question about the Command+ F function. Is there a way to close the small area that pops for you to write the word you are searching for in the current webpage by using a shortcut? The only way I know of how to close that is by clicking done, but I would like to know if there is a shortcut or something.

I am new to MacRumors Forums and I have a problem with both my Alt/Option Key and the left side Command Key on my MacBook Pro. Basically, whenever pressed the Alt/Option Key performs the "Expose" function revealing all the open windows so that I cant ever actually use the Alt/Option key in various key commands with different programs. Also, the left side Command Key, whenever pressed, hides all my open windows to reveal the Desktop, but thankfully there is a right side Command Key to my keyboard that I can use. Now, Ive gone into the System Preferences and tried to alter the Keyboard short-cut commands as well as restore the defaults to no avail, I just cant seem to get it to revert back to normalcy - I need this key to work right so that I can do the necessary shortcuts in Logic Pro.

I was just wondering if there was a way to change the short cut key combination for switching tabs on safari. I wanted to change it to something like cmd and arrow direction instead of using cmd + shift + [ or ] for directions.

I have no use for the "show desktop" thing you get when you drag four fingers up, so I would LOVE to be able to see all spaces instead. It would be perfect, first four fingers up to enable spaces, then down again to view all windows.

I have the original model, MacBookPro1,1. I want to change my keyboard backlight keys, or F11/F12, to control iTunes. Is there any easy/free/clean way to do this? no for-pay apps, as it isn't worth money to me.

I've been searching in vain around the internet for a few days now for a way to change the hotkey for switching between spaces (by default, option-arrow keys, though I have changed it to command-option-arrow keys) to option-tab and shift-option-tab. To be more specific, I'd like option-tab to switch to the space to the right, and shift-option-tab to switch to the space to the left. I have downloaded BetterTouchTool (http://blog.boastr.net/?page_id=1722), and it can assign any shortcut key to the simple option of bringing up the spaces interface itself, but I can't find a way to assign a different shortcut key to actually switching spaces. Interestingly, using that app, I was able to assign a five finger swipe (which blew my mind, by the way) in the corresponding direction for which space I wanted to switch to by assigning the gesture to the shortcut key for switching spaces (so, five finger swipe to the right is assigned to command-option-right arrow).

Other than opening Displays System Preferences panel, is there a way to change resolution settings on a MacBook Pro? I have a new MBP with a Retina screen and I'd like to be able to more quickly switch display settings. Â

I have a NAS server, when i want to use it, i have to go to the network list in the finder, then click the server to list its volumes. My question is, how do i make a shortcut to that server on my desktop? It seems it is not possible in the finder, but i am open to a terminal hack if necessary.

Is there a way to create a desktop icon to make my mac sleep?
I know the keyboard shortcut but I'd prefer to click... and yeah going to the top-left corner and click on the apple button and go down to sleep is not quick

I am looking to see if there is a program(s) out there to change OS X desktop theme. Mainly how the tool bar looks/acts.
I want my kids to start using my G4 and they have no concept of where to look for the apps folder or how it works. They are used to Window and Ubuntu.
I like how Ubuntu has programs ot change how the tool bar acts. I was hoping to change the mac a little.
Also off the base of this thread, coming from a Windows and Linux past, is it an issue if my kids just click the red X instead of using the File/quit method to close programs? I see the menu bar still exists when they just hit the X..
