Is there a keyboard shortcut that will minimise all windows and just show the desktop? Kind of like the 'Show Desktop' button in windows xp. (sorry I'm about to switch to mac this coming week so expect some questions like this over the next couple of weeks).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've switched to mac very recently and have the following "beginner" question. I was not able to find an answer in any of the guides.
In OS X the Menu Bar is always on the top left. Now, I don't know all the shortcuts yet, so I have to click with my mouse on e.g. "history" (in safari) to find out that "shift" "cmd" "H" brings me back to home.
Now, I don't want to click with my mouse on "history" in order to view the menu. Just as in Windows I want to be able to open the "history" menu with a short cut. In Windows if I pressed "alt" it would underline the letter I would have to press in order to open a certain menu (e.g. "alt" + "f" for file menu).

Right now the shortcut on my Danish MBP is CMD+< (the button right to the left shift button), but I would rather have it to be something like CMD+$ (button over the tap button).
So this is a new thing that started happening, and has got me stumped. When I hit Apple key+N in Safari, a new browser window will open, I will be switched to the Finder, and a new window in the Finder will open up. This new window in the Finder is the Computer window, the one listing the HD, the network icon, and any attached disks. It is not the same window I would get by hitting Apple+N while in the Finder. Only seems to do this while in Safari.

I got my MBA about 2 weeks ago, and in 3 different occasions some windows and parts of the desktop would show display artifacts. I am attaching snapshots. I didn't recognize any specific pattern that could cause this, and the CPU was not overheating when the fact happened. Every time it was sufficient to reboot the system, and the problem disappeared. I am worried it might be a hardware issue, maybe related to the integrated graphics. Should I have the MBA replaced?

Any time I need to clear things, I just hide them. The only thing I can come up with is in the event that someone wants to hide just one of an application's window. But also, it seems inefficient. There's a keyboard shortcut to minimize windows, but there doesn't seem to be one to bring it back. Most of the time, it's just annoying because I accidentally click it. How do you use the minimize function if at all?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a MAC OS X, version 10.5.5. When I put my mouse down to move it, it will continually minimize all windows (about 3 per second) almost like it's stuck. If I squeeze the sides really hard I can stop it for a second or two, but still does it. I've tried disconnecting the mouse, resarting the computer but cannot figure it out.

I did an XP Repair, ran a AVG spyware sweep and found nothing, uninstalled AVG, and I basically uninstalled everything else I had except my games and nothing has worked.
Before my games were working fine (I had like Bioshock, Mirrors Edge, COD5), then I went to my friends house and installed Steam. Somewhere in there this problem started occurring and so I tried uninstalling it, still no luck.
I have a Macbook Air and I want to install Windows 7 in boot camp. however since I have a 128 SSD I definitely want to minimize the disk space it uses. I installed it on an imac and it took 14 Gigs!
Is there any way to do what we can do in OS X, remove print drivers etc? I couldn't see any option during the installation on the imac.
Dont like to allocate 24 gig for Windows since I need some space for any applications as well.
After I reinstalled Snow Leopard I cannot double click on top of a window to minimize it. What do I do to re-activate that? I used to double click at top of any window/app and it would minimize.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy imac core i7 arrive (it's great). However, the question I have is that when I double click (left) my my magic mouse (yes I enable the right/left click buttons). So when I double click the mouse on a web browser on the empty space (the space to the right of the red/yellow/green button, nothing happens. I want to send it to the bottom of the dock like in all of my previous mac. The double clicking of the mouse does nothing. Note: please don't confuse my simple question with the System Pref/Doc (minimize windows into application icon) situation. I know how to do that. Option clicking a dock icon should minimize all windows of the given program. It works with all icons in the dock except Finder - its window(s) won't minimize. Is this behaviour normal? If so, why? Btw, if I right click the Finder icon in the dock, the menu item "Hide" is greyed out.

Pressing "Restore Defaults" does nothing to alleviate the problem. Is there a way that I could reset all of my default shortcuts through terminal or something more powerful than system preferences?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Macbiff to check my email. I guess you'd say it's a background app; it has no dock icon or cmd-tab icon; it resides solely in the menu bar. To check email, I have to click its menu bar icon and select Check Now from the drop down menu. I have created a keyboard shortcut for "Check Now", but I can't figure out a way to give the app focus in order to use the shorcut, aside from clicking the icon, which obviously defeats the purpose. FN-ctrl-F8 gets me to the menu bar, but not to Macbiff...this only works for OS based menu bar items, not 3rd party apps. Aside from a 3rd party keyboard app, is there a way to do what I'm trying to do? 3rd party apps don't see Macbiff as a running application anyhow.
View 2 Replies View RelatedYou know how in Windows you can use the tab key to tab through fields in a dialogue box until the OK or Cancel button is selected, then use the enter key to execute one's choice? Well how does one do that in Leopard? For example, I am entering a lot of transactions into my accounting software (MYOB) and each entry has to be recorded by hitting the OK button. It's highlighted in blue but hitting the enter key doesn't do it and I cannot tab to it. It would speed things up greatly if I didn't have to keep mousing to the button.
