I'm looking to buy an iMac i7 3.4GHz with 256 GB SSD for professional audio use. I'm wondering if it would be faster to stream audio samples from an additional 2TB internal hard drive or an external Thunderbolt drive.

I am thinking of sending in my Mac Mini to OWC because I'm not good with the insides of computers. I am wondering how the Service works. So am I suppose to add the Service, the RAM, and the Hard Drive to my basket and it knows what to do? When I get the box, do I go to a local FedEx facility to send it back? Is there anything else I need to know? I need advice from people who have sent in there Macs to OWC. Sorry if I sound like a noob, I am new to Macs and just wondering how the service works.

I was curious of peoples opinions on the below comparison. The price difference is $150 more for iMac 2. I see that bringing the RAM equal would be $25-30 on Crucial, and for both to bring it up to the 4GB supported is like $50-60. so not a big difference, and I'd probably do that regardless of which one was purchased.
So really, the main dividing factors are the 1) processor speed bump, 2) 250 vs 320 GB drive and 3) the graphics card. Also, is there a difference between "fronside bus" and "system bus" that greatly impacts performance? Do you think these differences are worth $150 price increase?
I was wondering if it has the power I need i have found a very good deal on one. I will use it for is iLife and photoshop CS2 maby some light gameing.

The only thing holding him back is that he has an analog surround sound system he uses for his speakers. I shoot about 40 weddings per year. (2500-3000 images per week). I am currently working off a 2 x2.66 Dual Core MacPro with 11GB of memory. I use Aperture and a bit of Final Cut Pro.I need the MacPro for storage issues related to iTunes and photo libraries so I have ruled out an iMac. My question is, when will I cross the "overkill" line. I don't spend my days doing intensive 3D render outputs of math computations so I know a 12 core is "too much".

View 24 Replies View RelatedSo I just finished installing Windows 7 Professional 64bit via boot camp, but I had an issue when I put in the 10.6 disc to get the Drivers for everything. I'm running the 2.4Ghz Aluminum MacBook (not the pro). When I try to run the disc, it says that x64 is not supported on this machine. Am I boned? Or are there other options, because I really don't want to buy 32bit, because my school provides 64bit for free. I'm just looking for the drivers for the iSight, trackpad functions, and the keyboard functions (volume, iTunes, etc).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought my first Mac, a C2D MBP 13". I really love the machine. But I'm experiencing this particular issue of having high cpu load of up to 80% while on W7 Professional bootcamp even though I'm not running any graphic intensive programs.

Upon successful installation of W7, I inserted the OS X disc inside and the bootcamp drivers installed successfully. So I'm quite sure the drivers are okay. Being a DotA lover, I installed WC3 on my bootcamp. However, I realise that whenenver I'm on windows mode, the machine is very laggy. I even have problem opening a browser when I alt tab out from WC3. Is this normal? Even when idle, the cpu load on the processor jumps from 1% to 47% randomly. Just fluctuates randomly. I'm quite sure my Windows Security Essentials is not doing any scan btw.
I'm looking for a professional grade video conversion software that can convert Quicktime (.mov) files to HTML5 video formats such as Ogg Theora and WebM. There are tons of free ones but I haven't found one that does a very good job. I've tried Bigasoft's converters but I'm a bit disappointed with their very basic quality settings. I'd like to have more control over parameters such as bitrates, variable passes, etc.

View 24 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to grab one of these new MBP's in the next few days, but as an admittedly,.I'll be mostly using my MBP for DJ and Logic work, as well as the occasional Illustrator or Photoshop project, along with some movie watching. No games or 3D stuff necessary..66 make a justifiable difference over the 2.4? I'm planning on getting 8gb with the 2.4, doing the 7200rpm upgrade and getting a HR screen on whichever one I choose, but just wanna make sure my going with a cheaper processor and more RAM isn't shooting myself in the foot down the road more than getting a slightly faster proc with less RAM.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have quite an old toshiba 32WLT66 hdtv with my mac mini connected to it through HDMI. I did have it connected with vga and a separate audio cable, which worked out, but I wasn't happy with the picture.
The picture is now great with HDMI and as I'm using it mainly for movies through plex I am putting up with the overscan when using it for occasional web browsing.
My question is what is the best solution for getting audio when using hdmi? I have seen some posts where people have suggested looking at the tv settings to force the tv to accept audio through another source when using hdmi. This doesn't seem to work, or it only (might) work on my first hdmi port (when I connect the mac mini to the 1st hdmi port, the picture is very distorted and doesn't appear correctly - so this option is ruled out).
The other solution I'm aware of is connecting to an external amp and speakers - can't so this as I don't have them.
The second option being a set of USB speakers, I believe this might be my only option, but I would rather have the audio coming through the tv as I don't want the clutter of another set of speakers.

Which would be the better choice? Is the price difference justifiable?
I am a photographer so I do a lot of tethered shooting through capture one and a lot of photo editing in Photoshop. I have an eizo 24" external display I can hook up to but I feel the 17" with its high resolution and anti glare would be useful for location shoots so my question: Is the higher price and old technology worth it for the bigger antiglare screen and bigger harddrive for what I am using it for?
My 15'' 2.4ghz MacBook Pro will only wake up from sleep about 50% of the time. I have tried waiting for several minutes, but the only solution seems to be holding down the power button, and then restarting. Is there anything i can do to fix this?
