Currently I have a 15" macbook pro and a 24" Cinema display since using this set-up can go back to single screen!
Thinking of either getting the big 27" or a base model 21.5" and keeping the 24 cinema display as extended monitor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Any thoughts on the sweet spot of the imac lineup? seems either base model or top model to me
Can the iMac be used as an extended monitor? Say, you have a pc laptop. Can the iMac be used as an extended monitor for it through the mini display port?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 27" i7. I have a 24" DVI Montior hooked up to it via MDP->DVI adaptor. When the 24" Monitor is on, everything is fine. When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of Windows XP, service pack 2 on a boot camp partition on my macbook (13" first gen aluminum case) and a Apple LED Cinema Display attached to the mini display port.
I can't seem to make the Cinema Display the primary display (the "Use this device as the primary monitor" checkbox is always greyed out in the Display Property Settings tab). I also can't shut the macbook lid and continue to use it closed (with kb, mouse and monitor attached) like I would when booting OSX.
Is there some other way to make the Cinema Display the primary monitor, so I can leave the macbook closed when booting into Windows?
I have a G4 powerbook with an LCD that only displays the top 25% of the screen. I've been using an external monitor with it just fine. Today, I reinstalled the OS and ran into a problem. The main OSX startup menu (you know, where it asks for your location, timezone, personal info, etc) is prompting me for information, and I can't see the forms to fill them in! The external monitor defaults to "extended" as opposed to "mirrored", and the forms are embedded, meaning I can't drag them over to my external monitor. Obviously, if I can't fill out these forms and get to the desktop, the laptop is completely useless.
Does anyone know how to force the external monitor to be "mirrored" from startup? Is there a keycommand?
I have been using the latest macbook pro 13.3" since April 2010. Over the last week the monitor suddenly goes completely white and the external monitor goes black. The laptop becomes unresponsive although the programmes opened continue running (e.g a skype voice call would continue without interruption although the monitor is all white).
The only solution at the moment is to press the turn off button for a few seconds then switch the laptop on again. It will then work normally until for no apparent reason this happens again.
I have a macbook pro from 2007, and I just popped into a tagsale and picked up one 2001 Mac Studio Monitor and a 2001 Fomac Gallery monitor.. So I was hoping to use the monitors with my laptop because the small screen on this laptop is KILLING me, and i'm not yet prepared (financially) to get a powermac.. Paid $10 for both of them..
my issue right now is, the monitor's cable doesnt match the input on my compuer. I need a ACD DVI clip cable.. Now, i looked them up and the price is $100! Call me naive, but i had no clue a connector cable would ever cost that much..
So basically, I am curious if there was a different option to get this to work with my computer OR if there is a place to get a used or "extra" cable
I have a G5 Quad with an Ati x1900 graphics card running into a 52" Samsung LCD. This was working fine through a dvi-vga adaptor until I switched the monitor resolution from 1920X1080 to 1360X768 which is not supported by the monitor .....blank screen. I plugged another 19" monitor into the other output on the card and both work fine but as soon as I remove the 19" the 52" reverts back to the unsupported mode. I have reset the pram and tried booting in safe mode but that did not help me. From bootup the 52" works fine until just before the login screen, then it switches resolution......blank screen. Would anyone know where these settings would be housed in OS 10.5.1 so I can modify (delete) them?

i don't know what I did, but for some reason, new windows on firefox opens on my laptop monitor (instead of my 20 inch LCD, I am running dual screens).
1. I am running dual screens, but my EXTERNAL monitor is the primary one (top menu bar is on the external monitor)
2. All applications open by default on my main monitor, except for FIREFOX.
3. I have tried dragging the firefox window back to main monitor, both in spaces view as well as normal view, to no avail.
I picked up a new MacBook yesterday and I noticed a weird issue when coming out of "monitor sleep" mode, not regular sleep mode.
When I move the mouse, the external monitor shows what you see in the picture, kinda like a TV with no signal. The MacBook screen works fine so what I just do is unplug and re-plug in the DVI plug and everything is good again.
My 24 inch Dell monitor worked fine with my M1330 and other computers so I know it's not that. Does anyone have the same issue or maybe give me some light on this?
Is there a way to use my external monitor as my only monitor when connected to my mbp? Or, can i clone my display, but at separate resolutions? I am able to do this on windows with nvidia software, is there software that allows further customization?

View 3 Replies View RelatedAs said, my current set up is an HDMI - DVI cable (HDMI to monitor and DVI to adapter) and my DVI - mini DisplayPort adapter, everything is connected fine but when I turn on the monitor, it says cable not found... and nothing is displayed on the screen but on the Macbook side of things, it sees the monitor is connected (I can extend the screen and leave the screen) but other than that, it appears I cannot get an image on the monitor, pressing every button on the monitor does not work either.
Any other information that may seem necessary, let me know. I tried clearing my PRAM and clearing the power and such but nothing seems to work.
Is there a way to have VLC fullscreened on my second monitor (my TV, fyi) while keeping the first monitor active and clickable without unfullscreening it?

HP is a 24" H-IPS panel with 1920 x 1200 max resolution. Dell is a 22" e-IPS panel with 1680 x 1050 max resolution. The Dell is half the price of the HP.
My concern is the lower resolution on the Dell. What difference is there with the lower resolution of the Dell vs the HP monitor? Keeping in mind of course that the Dell is also 2" smaller than the HP. I'd be using the monitor for extended web surfing, writing for long periods in m.word, and video editing.
Is this possible? Is there a workaround for it?

So I went to a MBP 2.16 dual core version which has been working out except for times when I need to get accurate color correction for my pro photography business. I have an older, too old now CRT that I hoop up to it many times for photo editing but now I realize that that monitor needs to be replaced. So here is the question what are the pros and cons for adding another computer, do I really need it. I am trying to make a decision. I really like my MBP, I can do everything on it and the speed is fine. Also having only one computer is easy for backing up and not worrying about file sharing and all the nonsense I guess. I have an office with my CRT in there much most of the time but it's dark and boring so I bring my laptop in the kitchen where I surf, edit and watch tv from the living room. That being said I just started to get the bug about a new quad Imac 27" and went yesterday to look at it. I came very close to walking out with it. Yes it would be awesome to have but do I really need it? The other alternative is buying the new 24" ips screen and running that off my MBP when I need to do critical photo editing. Then I am thinking my laptop is over 3 years old now and wonder what is the life on it? I would hate to buy the nice desk top and not use it, plus I would need more backup systems etc. I do you external HD.s for all my clients photos so if I choose to work on them I just move the HD. Any advice? New 27" Imac or will the 24" monitor suffice?

I've done some searching and can't really find a "yes this works" or a "no it doesn't work". My PC's video card has DVI and HDMI outputs on it. View 24 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel IMAC, which is now out of warranty as I have had it for 16 months (and I was dumb enough not to get AppleCare). A few days back, my computer would not startup and everytime I hit the power button, I would hear some spinning noise but no chime from the iMAC. Yesterday, I tried it again and this time I heard the chime but the monitor did not start. I was then able to SSH into the MAC and see that it is indeed connected to the network and booted up, but the screen is still dead. Any ideas what I should do before the painful trip to the apple store ?

I have a 27 iMac, and a 22 inch Viewsonic as the second monitor.
The second monitor is just not bright. I have used another monitor as a second monitor as well. Both are just not bright enough to suit me.
I have fiddled with the brightness controls, to no avail.
Is that a generic problem with second monitors?
They just don't get enough juice or something?
Would another brand monitor help?
I am very untechnical so much of what I have read on this matter is above my head, but in simple language, if I buy a new MAc Book Pro is there any way that I can use the 21" screen on my 2005 iMAc OS X as a monitor? I asked someone at Apple Store and was told that though later models were fully compatible, for one that old I would need special software, but he couldn't say what. An earlier thread posted last year that I didn't fully understand suggests that I don't need software.

Basically, I want to dismantle the original machine and make a new box to connect to the G4's arm and display. However, I remember reading somewhere that the G4's display used some type of proprietary connector and that this would be impossible. Can anyone who has more knowledge on this than me let me know if I can do this? Soldering is not a problem if needed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am seriously considering the possibility of using the 27in iMac as an external monitor with my MBP when I am home and need the extra monitor space. That would also allow my family to use the iMac when I am away at work or out of town. Since my MBP has a Mini DisplayPort, it should be as easy as connecting the MDP from the laptop to the MDP on the back of the iMac and then connecting the USB for audio? However if the iMac is turned on, how can I use the monitor without the actual computer running at the same time?
