View 8 RepliesI was surprised one day to find an inch of white line running from top to bottom on my screen. Then after a week it expanded to two inches white line, then suddenly it turned all black and I can't see two inches of my screen from the right edge. I was reading some forums and found out that I can use a dell monitor as a secondary monitor, but is it possible to use the dell monitor as the primary monitor in case the black line will spread throughout the entire iMac screen? so the iMac would serve as a stand alone processor like a regular desktop?

My issue is that its taking less and less time to burn images into my screen. It's so bad, I avoid using the left side of the screen because simply leaving anything there for a full minute burns the crap out of it. Oddly, this only effects the left third of the screen.
I remember taking it up to an apple store (not fun, considering none are near me. The address their tech support gave me actually went to a pawn shop.) but they simply told me to leave the itunes visualizer running every now and then.
Back then it was just mildly irritating. Now I cant do anything with that side of the screen! Would replacing the LCD resolve this issue?
Below is a picture taken from my motorola razr. I know it's bad, but that's all I have.
When I try inserting blank (brand-new) CD+ or CD- and DVD+ or DVD- discs, the slot-drive seems to accept the disc just fine. But then. I hear 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", nothing for about 10 seconds, 2 short "whirrs", then the disc is ejected.I have experimented w/different discs & get the same results each time: drive accepts the disc for about 30 seconds, never mounts it on desktop, then ejects it.

Just now I was posting an add on Gumtree trying to sell my iMac, then I went into Dashboard to look at some notes and noticed some black indent- like text, from the Gumtree add. Is this screen burn?
I had a quick search on Google and found out that this happens more in cold environments. My room is very cold at the moment, but I haven't had anything like this happen before.
So, is this something that Apple can fix if I send the iMac in? It's still under AppleCare.

I'm trying to burn a DVD from my iMac. I want to burn a DVD in the format so that I can play it on a DVD player. I already know I can burn a DVD so that it plays on a computer. I have the software for authoring DVDs (DVD Studio Pro 3: Professional DVD Authoring) but its older and thew new iMac doesn't support PowerPC Applications.

I downloaded a movie from piratebay and I want to put it on a DVD. How do I do this.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used Totast Titanum 10 to burn the DVD's. The settings I used was to burn Data Disks with "Mac Only" or "Mac & PC". Before I eject the dvd-r after burning, I test the files burned in the dvd if they can be opened by the appropriate application directly from the burned dvd.
For example, I checked if .mv4 files can be played by either Quicktime, iTunes, MPlayer OSX Extended, or VLC; checked if disk images can be mounted and files on mounted disk can be opened; and checked if unencrypted movies that I personally own (using MacTheRipper 3.0) with Video_TS and Audio_TS folders that were compressed by DVD2OneX 2.3.1 can be played on Apple DVD Player.
So I have a dvd I would like to burn onto another disc but I cant seem to do it. Do I copy and paste files from the original onto the desktop, then burn the files from desktop onto a blank dvd?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi want to burn multiple tom and jerry files for my daughter onto one single dvd so i can play it on the dvd player for her. Each file is about 75 MBS (8 mins episodes) but altogether they make upto 1.7 gb. The DVD-RW is 4.7 GB more than enough room i know but i just don't know what software to use that will allow me to burn them all and be playable on a dvd player. I am using the 27" imac and these files work fine on quicktime.

I remember reading that the iMac DVD drives are set not to exceed a certain speed so that they remain quiet, but I would rather the occasional disc burns take less time than be silent and keep me waiting. Is there any way to speed this up?

I have different format movies I would like to convert to the .avi format so that I may burn a DVD and play on my large screen using my DVD player. What program can convert most formats to .avi? A free program would be a bonus, but not a pre-requirement.

When I turn the monitor off, the magic mouse tracking on the 27" screen stutters. I am not kidding - it took me ages to figure out that to fix I either need to turn the other monitor on OR disconnect the MDP->DVI adaptor.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Intel IMAC, which is now out of warranty as I have had it for 16 months (and I was dumb enough not to get AppleCare). A few days back, my computer would not startup and everytime I hit the power button, I would hear some spinning noise but no chime from the iMAC. Yesterday, I tried it again and this time I heard the chime but the monitor did not start. I was then able to SSH into the MAC and see that it is indeed connected to the network and booted up, but the screen is still dead. Any ideas what I should do before the painful trip to the apple store ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have borrowed my Uncle's computer for the past year or so, and now have to give it back. I am in the process of burning Word documents and Pictures from the iMac onto a disk. I think I have tried everything?? I still can not burn my playlist to a disc. I have tried different burn speeds, different brands of disc's etc.

It is supposed to be the best burning package on mac. But I doubt it. I convert videos to dvd-video format using the absolutely brilliant windows7 application convertxtodvd. Please dont tell me to use a mac application instead of it. I tried it many times, there were always several problems(slow speed, subs etc). This is not the case here.
So, I want these dvd-videos in Video_ts format, to be burned in dvd disks using toast. It is supposed that video_ts folder are a standard folder, no matter the system you use. But toast has a different opinion. When I drag the folder in the dvd-video window, it asks to re-encode the video!!!If I try to burn this video_ts folder in windows machine using 'nero', no problem at all, straight burning! I really cannot understand why this happens.
Another problem I have is that the files I want toast to burn, usually reside to network computer. Is there any way to burn files from a network computer(win) using toast? Can toast access network or not? If not, I have to manually copy files to local disk, several minutes spent for copying gigabytes just to be able to burn them.
I have a newer iMac 24" bought in 11/2007. I have the mini-dvi to vga converter and when I connect it to a external tv capable of 1024x768, the iMac freezes and does nothing. I disconnect and the screen turns blue and the flickers back on and everything works. I have made the connection then booted up, and I have tried every resolution all the way down to 640x480, same thing it just locks up the screen, but again as soon as I unplug the mini-dvi to vga cable from the iMac it flicks to a blue screen and everything comes back. I have reviewed dmesg nothing, and revieiw /var/log/messages. Is there any troubleshooting I can do. I am old school unix/linux guy just converted my family to Apple and would like to use the display on my tv to watch my iTunes movies.

View 10 Replies View RelatedSo my super drive is not able to write double layer dvd's, even though it's supposed to, as confirmed by the System Profiler. I'm using the right kind of blanks (DVD+R DL), tried different brands, and it always just stops with a "media writer error" right away. It recognizes them as writable disks when I insert them, but simply refuses to actually write.
It's the 17" G5 iSight model. Is there an easier way to fix this than to send the whole thing to Apple to have the drive replaced? Also, how much does it run for Apple to install a new super drive for me?
How many others on here have an imac with burn in problems? I have a tone! I am so unhappy with this product. I am happy I have the extended warranty, I am now getting a new monitor for my imac.
