OS X :: Creating New User Accounts In Snow Leopard
Dec 28, 2010As an administrator (without FileVault protection) on Snow Leopard, I created a standard user account (test user1) with FileVault protection. I just want to get familiar with it before creating real accounts. But as an administrator I can't look at files created by test user1. I get a message that I don't have permission.
Do I need FileVault on for the administrator in order to do this? If not, as an administrator, why can't I see what's on other user is doing? Is there a way as an administrator I can see what's files are downloaded, created, websites visited, etc? I'm aware of creating a user account with Parental controls, but would that give me the ability to see what's in the folder?

Oct 21, 2009I'm fairly new to Mac's and loving it so far and I'm very excited to be receiving my 27" iMac tomorrow and since this computer is going to be shared amongst my wife and myself. What is the best way on Mac's to handle 2 users?
The only concern I'm wondering about is email contacts, Internet bookmarks and possibly a few other small things.

May 25, 2012I cannot access the Accounts pane from System Preferences. Each time I click on the icon, I get a message that says "system preferences has quit unexpectedly. I've already repaired the permission, deleted system preferences plist, installed the combo update and logged in as a different user. Everything else works just fine.

May 28, 2012I have a 2006 Mac Mini using Snow leopard OS X 10.6.8.It will start up to show the 2 User accounts that are set up however when one of the accounts is selected all that appears is a totally blue screen with only my mouse curser working on it. Is there a fix for this?

Jul 3, 2012I recently purchaed a Macbok Pro 15" the disk has only 3 user accounts Guest and 2 personal accounts. I have a SuperDuper backup of the Macbook Pro 17" disk and would like to restore the Users folder. However, Migration Assistant complaints all the accounts exists on the new computer! There are no accounts on the new computer with the same name. I rename the accounts but Migration Assistant complains those accounts exists. Migration Assistant restored Applications, computer settings and other folder. The option to replace the account is greyed and cannot be selected and renaming is not working. Â

Mar 20, 2012Got a suspicious email wanting security updates on my bank accounts. Didn't use the link in the email & didn't knowingly download anything from the email. Went to another server & accessed my bank account to get an address to forward the email to. Went back to my mail & found that the suspected phishing email had vanished. My bank says I most likely got a virus from the email, thinks my account(s) has been compromised & advised me to scan my computer for malware before trying to go to my account again.My Software update shows I have the latest security, I never got a message advising me of suspicios sites or downloads. So how do I check for a virus or malware???Â

So, first I'll describe what I want to do, then my understanding of how to do it, and then ask my questions.  I want to keep my mac.com email functionality for my primary account, my aliases, and my email-only accounts—all of which use mac.com addresses.For now, I don't care about contacts, calendars, bookmarks, or any other syncing except mail server syncing with my SeaMonkey mail client on multiple Snow Leopard Macs.I can't install Lion (yet) on all of my Snow Leopard computers. I have some software compatibility issues that have yet to be resolved, and one machine (Macbook Pro Core Duo) isn't compatible with Lion at all.I have several IMAP and POP mail accounts that forward to my primary mac.com address, and I would like that to continue. It's my understanding that I can log into my MobileMe account, select the "Not all devices meet requirements" option, agree to the iCloud Terms of Service, and then click the Move to iCloud button to use Apple's mail services with iCloud after MobileMe ends. Here are my questions:Will the move to iCloud work as described?Do I need to claim I have Lion installed on all devices? But having set up the account, iCloud in Apple Mail will not accept the password. I have checked, and the password is the correct one, which gets me into MobileMe correctly. I have not deleted my MobileMe mail account, and that is still working properly, and accepting the password. The password is a new one, which complies with 8 characters, at least one capital, and at least one numeral.
