OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Organize Related Multiple Contacts?

Mar 17, 2012

What's the Best Way to Organize Multiple Related Contacts? It may be a Couple or a Family with common Address and Phone, but different names and birthdates. Then I try to put them all in one contact listing. It may be a Large Business where you want to keep track of information about a dozen different people's address, phone, depart, title, email etc.  But It still would be nice to be able to pull up one entry with all the business's information.

My contacts list is transferred from a PC/Microsoft and is in random order.  Alphabetizing via first and last names.  I need to organize!  I tried dragging and dropping but where to drop?  Not on another card--don't want to merge them.  Disappeared when I tried dropping on letter at top.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Automator Workflow To TAR Multiple Files In A Single Directory Into Multiple TAR Archives In Succession?

Jun 12, 2012

I have set up an automator service that TAR's a folder into an archive for me and it works quite nicely. Idealy however, I would like to be able to highlight several folders, right click and have automator tar each folder into it's own TAR archive, but do it one by one.

[Code]...

I'm not 100% sure so I guess it would be a good time to verify, is there a problem with having the system try to TAR multiple folders at one time? If it is not a problem then I guess this discussion itself is pointless and I can simple right click on each folder and select "TAR Folder" and just wait until they're all finished. I would think that it would be ideal for the system to do each one individually and not try to do them all at one time.

Hardware :: Setup For Multiple External Drives - Organize

Aug 27, 2010

I would like to sort out all my drives and keep the organisation simple... it's recently turned into a bit of a mess after my hard drive on the iMac went into melt-down (fixed but having other issues... see other post! ) and as it had difficulty in backing up (for several months!) etc I did a mini panic of just saving my most important stuff on other drives - sometimes it would save on one drive but not other stuff so then had to use another drive etc... I have all my files etc but it's a bit of a mess... sooooooo. I have different things on different drives etc and it would be interesting to see how others organise themselves if they have multiple external drives. Which is best to use for time-machine back-ups and the other to keep all my photo's, videos and general other work on. I would like to keep my computer free of most of my work... maybe just have the current projects kept there. so far I have 53GB of photo's (I dabble in photography and work as a retoucher) I usually keep some original images and then there's the retouched or best images in separate folders. I'm studying digital media as well (BA) and while websites don't take that much space, the 3D stuff did and I've started doing stop motion animation ... then trying out different formats etc I end up with a huge amount of GB used up with .mov files (I'm new to moving images!) I have two desktop Western Digital Studios drives - 1.5TB and 500GB

I did used to just have the 500GB and kept the time-machine/backups on this disc and I recently switched this over to the 1.5TB but I'm wondering if I really need all that space just for back-ups - I can't personally see wanting a back-up from a year ago... a couple of months back maybe so should I switch my back-ups to the 500Gb drive and keep all my images/video/docs etc on the 1.5TB instead? also have 2 Western Digital portable drives - 320GB each. use one for Uni/work which means I can transfer large files to and from work computers to my home computer and I don't have to lug my macbook around ... plus the Uni doesn't have the same software versions as I do and it's easier just to take the files in rather than my laptop etc. I use one for keeping movies on - it's more convenient to keep my DVD films on the drive rather than keep taking dvd's out of the case etc... so my dvd collection is in a box on the wardrobe How do others organise themselves?

OS X :: Address Book Contacts Gone After Installing Snow Leopard

Oct 12, 2009

A couple of days ago, I updated from Tiger to Snow Leopard. It went well, so I thought. Last night, I discovered that my address book had lost all of its contacts - the only one there was me. Is there a place that I can look for this file, in case this is just caused by a disconnect between the program and the file? What is the file called? I do have some folders in ~/library/application support/address book:

(ABPerson.skIndex
ABPerson.skIndexInverted
AddressBook-v22.abcddb
AddressBook.data
AddressBook.data.beforesave
AddressBook.data.previous
Configuration.plist
Images
MailRecents-v4.abcdmr
Metadata)

But none of them can be opened by the Address book app.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Related To "Downgrading" (But Really "Upgrading") To Lion?

May 17, 2012

I understand the "can't" in downgrading from 10.7 Lion to 10.6 SL, so I'd like to pose a related question.

Assume one has an iMac running 10.6.8 and it dies, and that AppleCare has expired. Assume there is a full TimeMachine backup and two current bootable clones (SuperDuper) as well. One orders a new iMac and it comes with 10.7 installed. I take it you can't clone over the old 10.6, or use Time Machine to make the new iMac like the old iMac in so far as data, preferences, bookmarks and so forth are concerened. Am I correct in this understanding?

If so, how would one, having 3 current 10.6.8 backups, get the new 10.7 iMac set up with data, photos, user preferences, bookmarks and so forth from the clone or the TimeMachine? Could you even use the backups?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Address Book Is Suddenly Empty - No Contacts Displayed

Feb 14, 2012

First:I'm using a late 2008 MacBookPro 17" with 4GB RAM and a 320GB HD.MacOSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Address Book 5.0.3 (883)Mail Version 4.5 (1084)

Yesterday evening I found that Address Book was empty - no contacts displayed and Mail did not recognize the group name when I entered it in the To field.

Actions I've tried but did not resolve the issue:Restoring Address Book from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book app~/Library Address Book Plug-Ins~/Library/Application Support/Addressbook and~/Library/Application Support/Yahoo! Sync

And then restoring these same items from a Time Machine backup that was previous to when the problem occurred.Deleting the Address Book App and then reinstalling from my Snow Leopard Install DVD.

When I restored AB from Time Machine all my entries showed in Time Machine (even the backups made *after* the problem began) all vCards are there and seemingly are restored.  But, when I make any effort to use a card or change to a different card, AB quits and it's back to an apparently empty address book.

That's when I found out that my Address Book doesn't reflect the same things which lead me to asking.
