View 8 Replies View RelatedI have purchased a new MacBook Pro & wish to delete the old back-up profile that resides on my time capsule so as to free up capacity on it's HD.
I have not started a new back up yet with my new MAcBook Pro...So in addition to wanting to delete the old back up from the Time Capsule, I was wondering if I do that after or before I have created the new back-up...
I have a Time-Machine backup on one of my external HD's. It's a backup of my old MBP system. I'm using my Mac Pro now and I wish to delete all the files which I don't need from the backup. Why does it not let me delete anything? It says I do not have enough permissions or something.
so i bought a time capsule last month and backed up my macbook on it.. (love it btw). but anyway my roomate also has a macbook and i let him back it up on my time capsule as well... now were both moving to different locations and i want to get rid of his backup to allow for more space.. how do i do this from my macbook?... is it possible?
if not would i have to reset it? or maybe get him to get rid of it on his macbook?.. (he would give me a hard time so id rather be able to just delete his stuff myself, and hes taking up significantly more space on it than i am so i want it off)
I want to delete the Time Machine backup for my MacBook Pro because I no longer own the machine. In the past I know I've tried to delete a backup by dragging it to the trash and emptying it, but I remember that didn't work. The finder would just say something along the lines of "calculating blah blah blah..." for hours.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to delete my time machine backup folder. I have other files on the disk and can not reformat. In the past, I have dragged the folder to the trash, and even though that worked, the process have sometimes taken hours, and on an old powerbook, it took more than 24h.
Right now I'm trying the terminal command sudo rm -rf. My aim was to save time by bypassing the trash. But the process has been going on for about 30 min already, and I see "Operation not permitted" after many or most of the lines. Does anyone know what that means?
What is the fastest way to just delete a time machine backup folder. Surely there must be a way of deleting a folder instantly, without the OS having to go through and verify every file?
Well I´ve synchronized my new Macbook with my old Backup. my 1tb external hard disk is now not enough space to do the new back up from my new Macbook.
Can I delete the old Backup to create space?

My MacBook Pro is running out of hard drive space, and the culprit is Time Machine. Apparently Time Machine stores local backups on the hard drive when it is not connected to the backup drive, and then is supposed to delete them when it does backup. However, this causes huge problems because I'm running out of hard drive space. I ran the following in Terminal to turn off the local backups:
sudo tmutil disablelocal
However, that has not freed up the hard drive space taken by the local backups.

I'd like to keep one backup of a particularly large file in Time Machine, but all the incremental backups are taking up a ton of room. I've read how you can delete all backups of one file, and all files in one backup. But can you delete one file in one backup?
View 4 Replies View RelatedSomehow, when installing RealPlayer I managed to get something called RealNetwork (a Folder full of files) installed in my User Library. It was 395.62 GB so must have been some sort of malware. I was able to find it and delete it from my hard drive. BUT I had backed up my hard drive to a non-bootable backup the day before so that file is still in the invisible Library folder on that drive, taking up almost 400 GB there, too.
How to delete it from the backup drive since I can't boot that drive?

There are hidden duplicates in my iCloud contacts - old ones for contacts where I've updated info. They don't show up in the regular contacts list ("all contacts"), yet they always show up when I enter a name into an email address and in iPhoto's Faces names. I can't change them to the correct names in iPhoto. And I can't find them to delete the old data.Anyone know where these are stored (old contact data that's been deleted or updated)? And, how can I access that place?
