Jan 6, 2010I am a network administrator and an mac user. No one else is my IT dept knows anything about macs so I have been given the responsibility of managing our 5 or so Mac's in the company. I've been able to figure everything out fine, but I have one user that insists on turning on the screensaver password on his computer. Now on windows, you can unlock a computer using an administrator account but on mac this is not the case. I want to disable the option for the screensaver password but I do not know how. The user is a local administrator on the computer because that is needed for a few things but he is making it impossible for me to work on his computer because of the password. Also, I've tried telling him not to enable it but he seems to not care what I think.

May 14, 2012In Apple's OSX Mail app, I've got a mailbox that connects to an server that is no longer valid. That is, the address no longer works. I'd like to have Mail stop checking that address. But I'd like to keep everything as is otherwise, if possible. In Mail preferences, I tried unchecking "include when automatically checking mail" -- but the account still gets checked when I hit "Get Mail" manually. I tried unchecking the box for "enable this account", too, but when I do that, all messages in that mailbox seem to disappear. Are they saved anywhere? I don't want to lose them and I still want to be able to search them.

Jul 25, 2009i am the administrator account for my macbook pro, osx leopard. when a roommate moved out, i wanted to delete his standard login account. however, instead of figuring out how to do it the proper way, i accessed the devices/macintosh HD/users/ folder in Finder and simply deleted it. now, when the login screen appears, there are three options: my admin account, a guest account, and an account with no picture entitled "Other...". I can't log into this account, and it doesn't appear in the System Preferences/Accounts screen, so i can't delete or adjust it from there.
has anyone run into this problem before?? it's not a huge nuisance but it's a bit annoying to see it every time i want to log in.

Sep 15, 2004i'm having troubles deleting a test-account a set up a while ago. i can't seem to get rid of it, although i've tried to delete it several times on system prefs. i get the message saying alt the content in this user 'home'-filder will be lost, and moved to deleted users-folder.. i press ok, wait a couple of minutes and it seems like it is removing the user. but when the message disappears the user it still there. i've tried restart, and the user is still active..
