Windows On Mac :: Using Outlook On BC Or VM?
May 10, 2009
I have now done an install of MS Office 2007 on XP Pro and Windows 7 however Outlook will display cannot connect to server when the whole VM or Boot Camp is online (I can browse etc). I have tried this in Fusion 2, Parallels and Boot Camp...same issue. This is on a sparkling new iMac 24in...The same attempt on my MBA v.A with XP+Parallels 3 has been successful...Is it an actual hardware fault or am I missing something?

If anyone knows how to import outlook pst files including mail messages, sent messages, calendar data, appointments etc. is this all possible in mac? I know a few programs have somewhat similar features, but, even if there is some solution coming out soon, like the new version of office with newer entourage? or leopard mail or even i heard a program like Daylite is similar.

I use a Mac book pro. the HDD is partitioned on which on one part i run mac osx Lion and on the other Windows 7. Presently i do my work in windows 99 percent of time. I want to switch entirely to mac. on windows i use MS Office with outook 2010. i want to switch entirely to Mac and thn remove windows from my computer.Â
the question is how do i move the outlook data (mails(since 20030 contacts(over 4000), calander, notes et all) and all documents, music, videos bookmarks etc to Mac OSX on the partitioned portion of the SAME HDD? i have read many posts that advise how to do it from a PC to Mac but none that help when all the data is on the same HDD. after migration, i want to delete the partition.Â

I'll try to provide as much detail as possible, but keep it simple. Running Fusion 3 (newest update) and XP Pro with Office 2007. Office connects to an Exchange 2007 server. Emails work great. However when attempting to access the OOF settings, I get an error "Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later."
Google searches say this is a known issue with Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2007 setup and that there are errors with AutoDiscovery (or something like that). I have talked to other's with Outlook 2007 and their OOF is working just fine (inhouse or through VPN), so the Exchange server settings are fine.
I think the problem is actually Fusion since it's not communicating with the Exchange server for the OOF settings. I don't quite understand how all of that works, sorry.
One suggestion was to change the network settings in Fusion from NAT to Bridged, however when I do that I lose all connections to the network. I have also set the MAC address on Fusion to that of the Mac with no change either.
As a test, I installed Office 2010 Beta and it's doing the same thing. Outlook 2003 apparently does not have this issue, but I haven't tested that yet on the Mac/Fusion.
Just to be sure, I downloaded every Windows/Office update to eliminate any configuration changes. Anyone else experienced this?
UPDATE: OK, if the system is on the network, the OOF works fine through Fusion, however if connected to VPN (using the built in client) it gives the above errors.

I first checked out iCloud page: [URL]. Seems you can use Outlook on Windows with iCloud calendar. Then I head over to MS support site to find this: [URL] : "Outlook for Mac 2011 does not support Apple iCloud calendar (CalDAV) and contact (CardDAV) synchronization." What can I do to be able to use calendars in Outlook on a Mac? Is there a way to set up Outlook for Mac the same way as Outlook for Windows (i.e. without CalDAV)? What is that sorcery Windows version is using to get the calendar from the iCloud?

I have a Mac that I put a partition on a few months ago, I now want to reformat. Yet when I go to my Recovery HD on Lion then to Disk Utility and try to format my HDD it gives me an error saying it couldn't unmount disk, the two partitions on the HDD unmount but the HDD does not. So I goggled it and read a few solutions however the most common one creating a bootable drive with the Recovery HD on it dosen't work either.

At my company we are using windows exchange server 2003. Now my boss bought a new macbook pro (snow leapard) with Mac office 2011 installed. Apparently Outlook '11 and exchange server '03 doesn't work together. Only exchange server 2007 and up are compatible. Is there any way around this? My boss hates Office 2008. Can't blame him

I have a user who just switched from Mac Mail to Outlook 2011. Getting a strange issue when sending to users on Outlook 2010 PC.
When sending a message, users on Outlook 2011 and people viewing the message via web mail can see the message fine. It reports that it's a digitally signed message (just one sentence), and the certificates look fine. Via the web, the message appears fine. It says:
"This message has a digital signature. The digital signature could not be validated because the S/MIME control is not available." However, it comes up fine.
However, users on Outlook for PC (my version is 2010), cannot read it. I first get a preview pane error "This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents." And when I double-click on the message, I get a pop up window "Your Digital ID name cannot be found by the underlying security system."
Anyone can provide clues why other Outlook MAC users and via the web the message can be read, but just not PC Outlook users for now?

I will be switching from Outlook 2007 to Office for Mac Outlook 2011 for my business email/calendar/contacts. I am pleased with Outlook 2007, but despise my PC otherwise. I will be using Microsoft Exchange as my email server. My concerns: Calendar Syncing, Accessing Archived PST files, Transitioning current mail folders.
I have a couple questions regarding this switch:
- Will Office for Mac Outlook 2011 accommodate by business needs and offer a comparable application as Office 2007 (PC version)?
- What roadblocks or issues should I be aware of when making this switch?

How can I change the default size font that is shown when I try to read an email in Outlook 2007? I know you can hold shift+mouse scroll button, but that is not the answer since it does not save the size you select. I want it to be saved a certain size and always open that size by default.

I am converting from a Windows system to a Mac. The mail client on the Windows box is Outlook 2003. The mail on the windows box had been previously stored in a number of PST files using POP3. The recommended procedure to convert to the Mac is to first in Outlook 2003 convert from POP3 to IMAP. While in the middle of this procedure I got a message that the PST file that Outlook 2003 creates for the local IMAP store is full. Further, it is 97-2002 format file rather than the new type used as the default in Outlook 2003. In any case, I need to get the rest of the mail converted. Another issue is that viewing specific folders in the IMAP store on the Windows box results in an initial display of items, followed by the window being cleared, and the folder size function showing that the folder is empty. However, attaching to the IMAP store on the server from the Mac Mail program still shows the contents, so I think this is an anomaly of the poor implementation of IMAP in Outlook 2003. What do I need to do to get the rest of the POP3 mail into IMAP?

I recently switched from PC to Mac. I have Entourage and Address book, but I really really prefer the format of Outlook. I will only be using it for the contacts/notes section, not an email database. But I love the ease of the contacts. Can anyone suggest a similar program for Mac that I could adapt to?

How do you like it? I am still on Entourage 2004. I do not use exchange so not sure if it would be worth it. At the job we use Windows and Outlook anyways so dont know if it would be worth it to buy Outlook 2011. Is Outlook 2011 worth the price or should I stay with Office 2004? I use Mail a bit, but it lacks a number of features found in Entourage so I switch back and forth between the two mail clients.

I'm moving over to a iMac from PC in the next week or so (well will be putting in the order then) and already have decided that I need Office for Mac for Word and Excel (I use my home computer to do some work stuff on it - i find it easier than using the work laptop).
Anyway, I'm wondering if if i should get "professional" version of Office which also includes Outlook or if I should stick with Mail and therefore only get the "home / student" version of Office.
I've read on these forums that there are issues with Outlook syncing, but for what I have read this is via iTunes. So is there still the same problems if syncing via mobile me? Being able to sync using Mobile me is a big thing as I share calendars with my partner.
For what I have read, Mail is just emails and there are other apps for contacts and Calendars - do the three interact seamlessly and sync using mobile me.
I also understand that to get my old Outlook emails onto my new iMac and readable with Mail I will have to use a app to convert them - which seems to be no biggie according to those who have written about it.
So, my main concerns / questions are:-
-For those of you who have converted from Outlook to Mail - was it worth it, or would you have preferred to still be using Outlook;
- If I were to stick with Outlook, does it sync using mobile me;
- Does having 3 separate apps (Mail / Contacts / Calendars) work, or is having all 3 in one better.

I've got some mailboxes in Outlook 2003 on my Windows work machine that I'd like to export and open on my Mac, maybe saving them on a USB key and taking them home. Can I open or work with these on my MBP running Leopard? The emails only have to be read-only, even just being able to open and read them would be OK, but I'd also like the attachments, if at all possible. I can't currently test this on my work (Tiger) Mac as Mail isn't working. Any clues from the wise ones?

So here is the deal: My father is transferring to a mac, but he wants the outlook stuff to come with him, and he picked me to arrange that:
1) I want to transfer Outlook files to Mac, contacts and adress book will manage, but I want all the tethering of the saved emails (All emails saved in folders and sub-folders in outlook) to remain intact.
2) I searched and saw some shady way of renaming the files and messing around with them, don't wanna use that.
3) I downloaded trial of 02M by little machines, but that could not connect to outlook and they don't really offer support. (installed latest updates from MS etc.)
4) haven't tried Thunderbird, but I think it just won't do the job.

This is very likey a simple fix, so I appreciate your help in advance and your bearing with me. On my iMac (10.5.8) I use mail.app to read my gmail account. On my Dell netbook (Windows 7) I use Outlook. Pretty standard stuff. But when one app downloads the message from the server, the other app doesn't. This is a major problem because I need to consolidate my emails all the time. Outlook has "Leave a copy on the server" checked and mail.app has "Delete from server" unchecked. Other than this, the gmail account functions perfectly in both apps.

I hope I have the right board. Has anyone used Outlook 2011? If so what do you think? I am am still using 2004. Its got allot more features than Mail (although Mail is much faster). I would like to upgrade but want to hear what others say first. I also wonder if it would be worth it, since I am no longer a student and all use of MS Office at the job is done there on a Windows PC. I do not take my work home.
i need a guide

What is the difference between Outlook and Entourage for Mac? Does it still interface with the contacts and calendar like Outlook for Win does? My dad is looking to get a new laptop and the only program he heavily uses is Outlook, with automated meeting requests from his office and the like.
