I have just installed Windows XP Professional on my 13" mac using VirtualBox. Everything is working fine but i can not get the screen resolution right.
OSX is running at 1280 by 800 but Windows doesn't have this option, the resolution closest is 1280 by 1024.
My iMac screen resolution only has a problem with the admin account. When I log in as a guest account - the resolution is as it should be at 1680 x 1050 - but when the admin account is logged in, that same resolution - 1680 x 1050 is slightly expanded by the screen size. I can click on the edges of the screen and bring back the menus to do what I need to do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old iBook graphite SE (466MHz G3 320RAM), which I haven't used for quite a while. I have loaded 10.3.9 on to it and it's working fine.
The only problem I have is that the screen wont display the the full width of a page when I am using Safari (1.3.1), I have to scroll from left to right to see everything, (screen set to 800X600). Other applications seem to be ok. I realise that it's all pretty old stuff but can it be fixed?
I got a penryn MBP with up to date drivers and I just picked up a Samsung T220 1680x1050 that works fine in OS X but I can't seem to get this resolution to work right under XP. It does not show the whole screen and when the cursor moves to the edge of the screen it scrolls/pans from side to side like it doesn't fit.

View 14 Replies View RelatedThis morning I installed Windows 7 Upgrade ($30 student price) from XP running via boot camp on my 2007 24" iMac. I had to do the clean install, but it worked flawlessly. I ran the bootcamp setup from the Snow Leopard disk (3.0) and it installed fine. My problem is the screen resolution. My resolution is maxed out at 1280x1024. Windows 7 handles this nicely, though, by simply putting the desktop in the middle of the display with black space around it (it could have stretched it out and made it really bad). I'm not sure what to do, since the driver is installed properly (ATI, RadeonHD2600). I'm also trying to run dual-screens, and that doesn't seem to work either. All these things worked perfectly on XP.

I would have chosen for HDMI, but the Dell monitor lacked that unfortunately. I've installed Windows 7 on a BootCamp partition, and I happened to be in Windows when I did this. When I turned it on, it was a duplicate display of my iMac screen. Same resolution. I went to control panel and screen resolution, and chose for 'extend these displays', but suddenly the resolution on the Dell went from 2560 x 1440 (like the iMac) to a max of 1280 x 800
View 14 Replies View RelatedSo i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.
I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).
1440x900 resolution of the new MacBook Air 13.3" screen is simply too high, making everything way too small and straining on my eyes. Is there a replacement LED LCD panel with a lower resolution (1280x800 like the old MBA) that could be retrofitted?

View 14 Replies View RelatedThing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.
Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.
I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.
So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.
I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?
I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?
I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

On my Mac Pro i have windows XP on hard drive number 2. I went to boot to it today after installing a program and nothing happens. The monitors are receiving information but there just a black screen.
Not sure what i should do considering that i can still access the drive and files from the MAC Side. I can also get to the boot screen to select safe mode but that also does nothing.
It is a early 09 Mac Pro...i have been using the computer this way since last April. Cant figure out what happened.

My brother got an iMac and yesterday he tried to install windows xp with boot camp. But unfortunately he made a mistake and the iMac shut down. Now the mac is stuck with a windows xp in it, and when he tries to start up the computer, it says "the start-up sound" and just stays with white screen. It sounds like the mac reads from the xp cd when it starts, but I can't get the cd out.I have looked everywhere and tried everything:
Hold down the primary mousebutton while it's starting,
Hold down "fn" and the "eject" button while it's starting,
and hold down "alt" while it's starting
I can't find any "pin-hole" to a paperclip or something.
I've got a 2010 i7 15.4 MBP, after installing boot camp drivers from MAC OS DVD, I could not find any option about how long to dim screen brightness. However, my friend's 13.3 MBP does have. What about yours, guys?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAlright, I FINALLY got windows on my mac and am very proud of myself. However, I am encountering what I hope is a final problem.
I want to log into Windows as an admin, so when it starts up I hit F8. The screen goes black and gives me a bunch of options, I choose "Safe Mode". Everything so far works like it should. But then the log screen appears with two options: Admin and my regular user. Obviously I want admin, but my keyboard and mouse are utterly nonresponsive , even the little caps light won't turn on. This means I'm stuck there, staring at what I want to click but unable to do so. The only button that works is the power button.
Anyone else run into this? More importantly, anyone know how to fix it?
iMac 27" i7 with OS X v 10.6.x when I create the bootcamp partition for windows 7 and I install from my original DVD of Windows 7. I format the partition during the install of windows 7 and on the first reboot after windows 7 first part of the install, the screen shows the Windows 7 logo and says continuing installation and then a black screen and then nothing.
I have to hard power off the iMac and then it starts over says the thing about the system didn't shut down properly and gives me the option to start safe mode etc. and does the same thing each time.
Has anyone been able to get a Higher resolution on their MacBook Pro 13" I know switcher res x works but have not been able to find a working resolution. Im looking for something slightly larger then 1280x800 1400x900 would be awesome or 1376x8XXX if anyone knows of a resolution that works?

The problem began after I tried installing Adobe Flash Player - I wasn't sure which version of the software to install so I tried both the Mac Intel and Mac PowerPC versions. It still didn't seem to work (I was trying to watch the football online) so I tried rebooting the computer. When it restarted, the font size and colours on the screen had all changed, there were now visible horizintal lines across the screen too. The resolution had changed, but I had only one resolution option in System Preferences - Display: 1280 x 768. I've tried re-starting the computer a number of times but it's still the same. My computer says I'm still on the 10.4.11 operating system.

When I boot up the mac it automatically sets the correct resolution, but after about 5 minutes of use I start getting this color digital static and then after a few hits of this the TV goes blank. Sometimes I can get it back if I move the mouse or type on the keyboard, but it eventually goes away again.
My wife and I have near perfect vision - for being average adults within our mid 40s. Within our Win XP and Win 7 systems, we set their Control Panel - use "large size" fonts and both fonts and menus become larger. Thus, allowing much better "comfort reading" on their default 1600x900 scren resoutions. Within one location, we simply change its "global level" font sizes and menu sizes, and still have clear screen images.

Or perhaps that's the best for this monitor which admittedly is quite old. But when I go into my system preferences it shows option for higher resolutions but doesn't allow me to select one.

Indeed I can change the resolution now, however it seems only the screen size is changing but everything else it still acting according to the default res. When I plug my MacBook into my tv with a VGA cable, the resolution becomes significantly lower so that the windows will fit nicely on the TV screen. This is great. But when I unplug from the TV, and my resolution restores to normal, my window sizes are all messed up! For example, I normally have iTunes and iCal full-screen in dedicated spaces. Now they look like this (attached screenshots). Any way to have these windows automatically restore to their original size?

As you can see, 2560 should be supported.
Also note that we have two different MBPs and two different Samsung monitors (same model, ordered at different times) that do the same thing.
