Software :: Unable To Change Resolution

Apr 30, 2008

I'm running OSX 10.4.11 on a G4. The problem began after I tried installing Adobe Flash Player - I wasn't sure which version of the software to install so I tried both the Mac Intel and Mac PowerPC versions. It still didn't seem to work (I was trying to watch the football online) so I tried rebooting the computer. When it restarted, the font size and colours on the screen had all changed, there were now visible horizintal lines across the screen too. The resolution had changed, but I had only one resolution option in System Preferences - Display: 1280 x 768. I've tried re-starting the computer a number of times but it's still the same. My computer says I'm still on the 10.4.11 operating system.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Change External Monitor Resolution?

Apr 6, 2012

I use an external monitor from Dell with my Macbook Pro 13.3". For some reason I am not allowed to set this monitor at highest possible resolution? Or perhaps that's the best for this monitor which admittedly is quite old. But when I go into my system preferences it shows option for higher resolutions but doesn't allow me to select one.

MacBook Pro :: Unable To Use Custom Resolution For Tv / Best Resolution For An LCD HDTV?

Aug 17, 2010

So i'm trying to figure out the best resolution for using my macbook pro in clamshell mode. I think ever since i installed snow leopard the new resolution choices i have are not longer pixel x pixel, but actual TV resolutions, such as 1080i, 720p, 420p. In the past I've used SwitchResX to do custom resolutions for my tv but that dosnt seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find a resolution where text is easy to read. 1080i looks pretty but text is extremely small. 720p the text is larger and easy to see but is very fuzzy and not easy on the eyes. I guess this has something to do with the pixels on a tv being farther apart than that of a computer monitor. It's a 32" LCD TV. I'm using a DVI to HDMI cable (Non-Unibody Macbook Pro).

Mac :: Can Change OS X Resolution From 16:9 To 4:3 WITH Letterbox

Running OS X 10.5 here with a 16:9 monitor. I want to play an old game which doesn't support widescreen, and renders very badly when forced to run in widescreen.I know I can force OS X to run at something like 800x600 in Display Prefs, but then it get stretched to fill the screen. Is there any way I can set a 4:3 resolution and then stop OS X from filling to screen (so I get a letterboxed effect instead?)

OS X :: How Do I Change Screen Resolution In A System

Jun 11, 2009

I installed Snow Leopard. Everything went well but I had one problem. I used DVI-HDMI cable to connect my Monitor. My monitor resolution is 1920x1200, and it doesn't have a DVI port. Only VGA and HDMI. Everything worked fine with Leopard, and I can see the 1920x1200 option listed in the System Prefs. But in SL, this option disappeared, instead they added 480p,720p,1080i, and 1080p.

OS X V10.4 :: User Can't Log In After Display Resolution Change

Apr 13, 2012

i have an mac pro intel 2x2.66 OS: 10.4.11

my screen died so i had to get the 27 led and have the atlona converter between the display and mac ( which works fine) I logged into my main user and then into user2 my main user's display resolution is set to 2560 and user2 was set to 1920 i opened preferences and switched resolution in user2 to 2560 the screen flashed a bit and logged me out. then it would not log back in (it actually logged me out of the main user too)

what happens is that it starts to log in, there were a few finder windows open so, it starts to open those. but it doesn't show any icons or the text with available disk space... there's a beach ball for 30 seconds or so then it just logs back out.

it's totally user specific because i can log in and use my main user fine. i can even log in to another user account that i never really used.

I tried logging in in safe mode and get the same results. I can log in in with terminal with that user and see it's files, etc... I even tried using command line to move some prefs out out (i put them back after it didn't work).

I imagine some file related to the finder is corrupted or something? one of the prefs i tried to move was com.apple.finder.plist as well as bunch of others like windowserver desktop displays, etc...

OS X V10.3 :: How To Change Screen Resolution For Games In Mac

Jul 1, 2012

I have an iBook clamshell with os X 10.3.9 running.  I want to play some older games, like Diablo 1, squirrel kombat, etc.

What I can't find out anywhere is how to change the resolution for games.  I know for older games (at least on PC) that there was a file that stored your settings, like sound card, resolution, etc.

I can't find anything like that here.  Diablo 1 says that it needs to have a minimum of 640 X 480.  I want to set it at 800 X 600.

Update, it looks like Diablo is running in classic mode (I thought it would run in OS X)  anyway, the question is still the same!

MacBook Pro :: When Try To Change Resolution To Any Other / Display Goes Black

Apr 26, 2012

I am trying to use external display with my Unibody Aluminium Macbook Pro (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, 2.26Gh, snow leopard). Cable setting I use is quite complicated as it is: macbook: minidisplay port>hdmi> DVI D : display. Display is LG Flatron W2242T (4:3).So I hooked everything up and macbook detected display without any problem. The problem arises when it comes to resolution. Maximum resolution I can set (and in fact the only except 800xsomething) is 1152x870 and not only it is to low, but also it does not respect 4:3 ratio so it looks quite bad. So bad, that i cant really work on a setup like that. When I try to change resolution to any other, Display goes black. I tried using some apps, but they dont really work.

MacBook Air :: 24 Inch LED Cinema Display - Can't Change Resolution

Nov 2, 2010

I just got the latest 13" Macbook Air and hooked it up to my Apple 24 inch LED Cinema Display. It works great but I've noticed that the resolution is not the same as when I had my 2008 Unibody Macbook attached to it. Everything is bigger (i.e. lower resolution) when the MBA is connected. I went into Display Preferences and changed it to the highest resolution but it didn't change. It's not that big a deal, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone had any suggestions on how to get better resolution on the cinema display. Or is it not possible with the new MBA connected?

Mac Pro :: Snow Leopard - World Of Warcraft Resolution Won't Change

Sep 10, 2009

Now I know something is up here, however I dont know what. I have an Early 2009 Mac Pro 2.66, 6GB , 300GB Velociraptor and a GTX 285. I stood in a very visually intensive area of Sholazar Basin and got 37 FPS @ 2560x1600 with everything at max.

I then changed ALL setting s to the LOWEST possible and resolution I took down to 1920x1200 .. guess what? SAME EXACT 37 FPS....

To make sure I do not have a faulty card I went and installed CUDA and an app that forces the GTX 285 to run full speed 1.48Ghz... I got the exact same results...

IS this the Card? the drivers? Snow leopard?? This SAME card runs at 80+ FPS using Bootcamp in the same machine so Im leaning toward Snow Leopard or the drivers... Anyone? Thoughts? I want to ditch my windows Gaming box but this is frustrating me to no end! My preference is to game with WoW in OS X but I cannot like this..

MacBook Pro :: Able To Change Default Resolution On External Screen?

Jul 14, 2010

I'm thinking of getting a MBP 13'', together with an external display. That way I get the portability of a MBP 13'' while maintaining an in-house big external display and 400$ in my wallet, only losing a bit of processor power (which is found negligible by most users).

My question has to do with resolution. MBP 13'''s resolution is 1280 by 800, right? My question is: if I buy a display with higher resolution, will I be able to enjoy that resolution? Or no matter how big my external display's resolution is, will I always be stuck with 1280*800?

Software :: Imovie Doesnt Work - Change Resolution?

Oct 28, 2008

Basically I really dont understand imovie used to work on my ibook but now there just seems to be a box popping up saying I need to change my resolution to 1024 x 768 for imovie to be able to work.

I went to system preferences, displays, and I get a window which is titled VA1916wSERIES and the only resolutions on offer seem to be 800 x 600 then behind it there is a window called VGA display and that has more options and I changed this to 1024 x 768 60 Hz....but it didnt make much difference, I then thought maybe I should change the option on the VA1916wSERIES window to 60 hz so it matched...but apart from that I dont see how to change that window. Imovie still isn't working, still telling me I need to get a bigger resolution, even though I have.

Now I have no clue what any of that actually means, I'm just blindly following instructions so maybe I did something really obvious wrong. If not, could anyone recommend any free video editing software I could download to my ibook?

MacBook Pro :: Cannot Change External Monitor Screen Resolution To 1920x1080

Mar 25, 2012

I have been having some problems with my Macbook Pro. I have a new BenQ screen connected to it via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter from Apple. No matter what I do, I cant seem to be able to change the resolution to anything higher than 1280x1024, which is a pretty stupid resolution to have on a 27'' monitor. Sometimes when I plug it in, it gives me the option to change the resolution to 1920x1080.

But when I select it, the screen goes black and displays the message "No signal detected". Now, as it happens, I have a copy of windows installed on a partition of my hdd, and the screen works flawlessly on it. full HD with 75 Hertz. So that shows that it is not a hardware problem, it has to be a software problem. I tried everything, including reinstalling OS X, and deleting the "windowserver" files. no success.

tell application "System Preferences"

reveal anchor "displaysDisplayTab" of pane "com.apple.preference.displays"

end tell

tell application "System Events" to tell process "System Preferences" to tell window "LCDTV16"

[code]...
