Windows On Mac :: Windows 7x64 Not Restart Or Shutdown
Jun 21, 2010Just making the transition over to mac ater 16 years of windows! Loving OSX, but having a few problems getting W7x64 working well at all. Essentially, as the title suggests, I am unable to restart, shutdown or sleep My Mac PRO 8 core from Windows 7x64. OSX works fine, and i can boot into W7 with thge alt key, but when I attempt to leave windows, it goes through the motions, eventually gets to a black screen and hangs & I am forced to hard reboot.
I suspect the NVIDIA 2x 120 cards I have in the macpro are the culprit, as the PC side of things work fine until the apple bootcamp drivers are installed. I have tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers and then wiping the PC with driver swiper, and this works for a short while. But it seems even the WHQL Windows drivers or the latest NVIDIA drivers have the same effect, and it is not long until the problem turns up again and I am unable to restart or shutdown. I have also disables the NVIDIA display driver service. NO joy.

Aug 19, 2010I have a 13" 2.4GHz mid-2010 MBP, with a legit version of Windows 7 installed. Sometimes I virtualize using VMWare, but usually I boot right into it when I use it to play games.
It's all been going well, until I would sometimes just shut the lid while I'm on Windows 7 bootcamp. When I open the lid, the computer is shut down, and I have the option of booting into OS X or Windows. If I choose Windows, it's as if it went to sleep (which should be happening as I'm closing the lid instead of shutting down).

So i need your help ASAP.So yes i have bootcamp'ed my macbook to windows 7 34bit.
And i think i made a mistake during installing it.Well when given the partition, it was 4 partitions , i chose bootcamp partition, but unfortunately it cant be installed on it, so i tried to format the bootcamp partition, and it's ok, so i have done it.But the problem is, i couldn't get into the mac whenever i restart or shutdown and turn on back.

Sep 8, 2006My system has randomly shut down twice now in the last two days. Dual G5 2.3. I checked the console log, which I know very little about, and it said this:
localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
Two questions-
what's the -122 code mean?
Do you think resetting the PMU would be the solution to this?

Dec 16, 2010I'am having a difficult time managing TV Show metadata in iTunes. I have over 100 episodes of a single show. I selected all of the episodes and went to "get info" and set the show's name. That was easy enough, but the problem is numbering the episodes in iTunes. I have to go one by one. I guess there is no auto numbering. Is there any easier way?

Dec 28, 2010Currently I have my itunes library on an external hard drive that is connected to my AEBS, I have a few things I need to resolve. My external drive is not always on so whenever I go to itunes and download a new tune my library path automagically changes to the default path on my MAC, thus leaving the new downloaded tune on my MAC and not on the external drive! I do not have the space on my MAC to hold my entire itunes library. How can I make sure that my external is always on? I have a mac mini I could hook it up to instead of having it on my AEBS ,would that be a better solution?
Also I have all MAC products (MBP, ipad, iphone4 x2, MAC Mini, Apple TV 2) in the house and I want to make sure that they all can share the itunes library. You guys/gals with large libraries that have multiple devices sharing one itunes library how do you manage your tunes?

Oct 27, 2009I need to be able to access several different email accounts at any particular moment in the day. I need to know when new mail comes in, I need to be able to reply from each account separately. Fairly straightforward really eh?
I dont particularly get on with Apple Mail. I find it crashes fairly frequently and really struggles when I am out and about using the mobile dongle.

Dec 24, 2009I seem to be accumulating a lot of "duplicate" photo files. Some are in iPhoto & some are in Aperture. I import the files from the camera with Nikon transfer. Then I import them into iPhoto. Then I may import them into Aperture. When I use Finder I see multiple file with the same name & either the same or different file extension. I'm going to stop using Nikon transfer, & directly import from the camera to iPhoto. Is there a way to sync photo files to eliminate duplicates or an easy way to organize files so I can delete duplicates?

Its come to the point of upgrading my 2007 MBP 2.4 to a new i7 that I'm thinking of ordering it with a SSD drive. Its the biggest 'hit' to increase performance it seems. Problem is the size of the SSD drives for cost. I can justify the 256GB model but not $1300 for 500GB which would be ideal, and even if I wait 6 months or so to get a 500GB I don't see the price coming down all that much. So...
Let say I order an APPLE SSD in my MBP and use it for a boot drive and some files. How do I configure/set-up the external drive to read its files for Aperture, iTunes, documents.... Thinking now is that I would use a WD 2TB external drive in RAID so I have the files on one 1TB and auto back-up on the other 1TB in one inclosure, and another 1TB drive for Time Machine.
This kind of limits my portability, so I'm also thinking I'd also have a portable larger HD to take with me when I need it. How do I sync the files I'm working on and adding to on one external drive with the other (as easy as possible)?
I may be thinking this all wrong, so any suggestions besides just the 'how to?'
ITunes :: Managing Music Libraries Between Two Computers?
Jun 30, 2012I have ordered a new Retina MBP to replace my early 2008 MBP, and have been contemplating how to manage my music libraries between both computers. My music library is about 60GB, and I don't want to keep it all on my rMBP (to save space with only 256GB available). My 2008 MBP will serve as a repository for all of my music, and regular Time Machine backups will be carried out. I also have a small, portable external drive which will also have all of my music (copied iTunes folder). The goal here is to have the music libraries on my old MBP and this external drive to be identical, for backup reasons as well as to be able to transfer music to my new rMBP when necessary. To do this, I reasoned out the following method:
-Obtain new music on rMBP
-Transfer folder of respective album(s) to copied iTunes folder in external HD
-Connect external HD to old MBP
-Open music files from external HD (they'll copy into both the iTunes library and the iTunes media folder on the old MBP)
-Verify that the music files are in both places
I can also obrain new music on the old MBP and then transfer it to the external HD. This seems like somewhat of a cumbersome manner to go about this (first world problems, I know). Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to streamline, or perhaps even automate this process? I was trying to think of a way I could utilize the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, but to no avail. Again, my primary goals are as follows:
-To have identical music libraries on my old MBP and the external HD
-To have only a small, can't-do-without-it music library on my rMBP; I could tranfer music over as necessary or play it using the library on the external HD.

Nov 19, 2008In Terminal, if I go to Preferences->Settings->Advanced, there's a pane that has literally hundreds of instances of setting configurations, numbered sequentially. Apparently, every time I start up Terminal by selecting a [something].terminal file, another one of these setting instances gets created.
Is there any way to prevent these from being created every time I start another Terminal session in this way?
ITunes :: Why Does It Provide So Little Usability When It Comes To Managing The Books In IOS Device
Mar 31, 2012Scrolling through that little window is the most annoying thing, besides, right in the middle of a scroll the window sends you back to the top. So you have to start again. There are updates for iTunes at least once a week and yet none of these make this feature a bit more usable.

May 29, 2012After updating to Lion, I set my macbook up with a few different desktops so I could easily swipe between them instead of searching for the windows I needed.I just set up a second monitor to my mac and noticed that anytime I swipe to a different desktop, both monitors change. Is there a way to "freeze" one while the other moves? Or better yet, can I set up my second monitor to only have one desktop while my mac still has 2 or more?

Aug 2, 2010So I decided to change my habits and become organized for this upcoming semester. (Somehow I have managed to stay organized without ever using a calendar or planner)
So i decided to do everything through google because I use gmail. I setup a google calendar and google sync on my blackberry. I want to be able to switch between my computer and my blackberry for managing my calendar and task list.
I really like how on the google's calendar the task list shows up on the right. It just so happens I will use the task list primarily to remember things I have to do. Google unfortunately does not sync tasks with my blackberry as far as I can tell.
So what is everyone here using to stay organized on their computers and blackberrys? I am willing to switch and not use the native blackberry app if I have to, but I would like to stay with google's apps. Tasks are my primary concern.

Im currently having this capacity filled by 2 machines: iTunes/iPhoto by a G4/450 and iMovie HD on my G4/1.67 . Jun 2, 2014I've been using FCP 7 for a few years and have just now discovered a problem I can't seem to solve. I have some archive material that I originally injested from HDV tape to HDV 1080 50i 1440 x 1080 and the clip info shows this to be correct. I set up a sequence and and clicked all the settings to match this and no matter what I do, I keep getting either a red render line or a green render line. I'm not entirely sure whether it should be set up for HDTV or just HD in settings, but setting HDTV cause the red render line to appear. Upper field is chosen and 48Khz for sound.

OS X :: Boot Camp Screwed Up Start Up Sequence?
Apr 4, 2009I tried installing Windows XP on to my MacBook running Leopard last November using an XP installment disk that came with a Dell Desktop. So that worked out well, until Boot Camp told me to print out an instruction sheet. Well, I don't have a printer connected to my MacBook, so I continued the installation without it.
The installation apparently 'finished' so I clicked "finish" but the whole installation process went back to the beginning, so I had to force quit the installation (my MacBook was running from just the disk, not 'Macintosh HD'). By the way, I went through the installation process a couple of times before I thought "this is just keep on repeating."
Well, whenever I go to boot up my MacBook now, a message comes up in a black background with white writing saying "No bootable disk, press any key to continue." Pressing any key doesn't work, so I have to hold down the power button (which I hate doing since it's apparently bad for the HDD) to turn it off, and I now have to hold down the alt/option key whenever I start up my Mac. By the way, the only disk that comes up is 'Macintosh HD', not the 'Windows HD' I partitioned earlier, which I have now deleted. My question is, what else can I do to completely erase this message I get at the start up?
