Windows On Mac :: How To Use IPhone Headphones As Mic On A PC?
Sep 15, 2010
I have a macbook but also a pc and I was wondering if there is a way to use the mic of my iPhone's headphones on the PC.
I tried just plugging them in the input jack but this doesn't seem to work.

I could answer this myself tomorrow morning by trying it out on my fiance's new MBA but it's in the bedroom and she's asleep. Chances are I'll forget by tomorrow so I figured I'd ask here.
My Unibody MacBook Pro (Rev A) can use the microphone in my iPhone headphones when they're plugged into the audio out port. The volume controls on the headphones also work. Is this also true for the audio out socket on the MBA?
If yes then it should be pretty easy to make a mono audio input source by hacking an old set of iPhone headphones. I'll probably just get some kind of USB audio in adapter but this could always be an option.

I am having trouble with the bluetooth on my MacBook Retina Display (software is up to date). My MacBook will not connect to my iPhone 5, nor will it connect to the bluetooth headphones I just purchased (Sony MDR-XB950BT). When I try to pair the devices to my MacBook, nothing comes up in the field of recognized devices, except for other laptops around me. Sometimes, my iPhone will show up quickly but then it will say the pair was unsuccessful. My headphones have never appeared on the devices list. However, I can connect my headphones to my iPhone perfectly fine.
Info:
MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 8.1.1

I have a Macbook Pro 13" (Mid-2009) running Windows 7 32-bit via Bootcamp. I was trying to figure out how to get my Motorola S805 bluetooth headphones to work in Windows 7, and the difficult part was that Windows 7 doesn't include the necessary A2DP bluetooth profile in the stock bluetooth stack. You're supposed to get it from your bluetooth adapter vendor, which apple doesn't seem to include in the Bootcamp drivers. The solution was to install the Broadcom/Widcomm bluetooth driver version 6.3.0.3800. I found a number of websites with this driver, but I wasn't sure if they were reputable or not. I eventually found the driver I needed from Gateway, which I was willing to try

I recently installed windows vista (home edition) via bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?

When I put Windows 7 into sleep mode (not hibernate), it stops charging my iphone 3GS. I've always charged my phone this way in mac os x, and would like to avoid having to reboot just to put it to sleep in Leopard I have a macbook pro penryn, with Windows 7 RC 64-bit. I've searched the forums and didn't find anything. The internet suggestions seemed computer specific or involved a slightly scary hack involving "always-on usb".

I have some Insignia BT headphones to go with my hp laptop, but I'm wondering if I can also use them with my Mac Pro (no BT).
They have a USB adapter for non-BT computers, but whenever I plug it in I get a message saying my *keyboard* can't be identified, and to press the first key to the left of the right-hand Shift key. (I'm using a third-party KB as well, from MS).
Is there any way to work this happen?
I asked for support at the Insignia site but got no response; I found some old(er) guide for Macs but it would there would be a Bluetooth icon in the System Preferences, which there isn't (already using Snow Leopard).

I'm having some trouble having my speakers and headphones working together.
In my prior setup, I've always had my Macbook Pro Line-Out connected to a set of speakers who allowed for my headphones to be jacked into it.
I had no problems with this setup as it allowed me to use either one.
Now, I bought a new Logitech G35 headset which has a USB end as opposed to the 1/8" jack, and I have to switch between the speakers and headset via Settings > Sound > Output.

Just a quick question -- do you know if it is possible to use the microphone on my iPod touch's headphones on my Macbook Pro by plugging it into the microphone jack? If not, any recommendations as to how I can go about doing something like that?

I've got a Mac Mirror DD, running 10.3.9.
We're members of a paranormal investigative group (yes, we're ghost hunters) that at times when reviewing audio, we need 2 people listening to headphones at the same time.
Up until now, we just pass the same set back and forth. The software I use is Sound Studio.
So in my infinite wisdomness, I thought, why not buy a second pair of USB headphones, plug them both into a USB hub, and presto! I should have figured it couldn't be that easy.
Now I have 2 sets of headphones but have to switch back and forth in the preferences panel. Outsmarted myself on THAT one!
Is there software or hardware that would work like a reverse splitter so that I can accomplish what I set out to do?

What is the sound quality like on macbooks? I've heard that it's not the greatest and I am prepared for that. I have a 17" dell and it has an unbelievable sound system for a notebook. Is the one of the macbooks really that bad? Anyone just down right frustrated with the quality? I can always get some speakers later too and hook those up when I really wanna crank it. Also when you use your notebook most of the time you will just be listening through your own headphones anyway and I'm sure it's loud through headphones, correct?

I have a ~year old 24" iMac (2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo) that I just suddenly started having a problem with. I use headphones pretty regularly and they are almost always plugged into the headphone jack. Recently, I lent my headphones to someone and, when I plugged them back in, the machine doesn't detect them. The audio works just fine coming out of the internal speakers, it's just that it *always* comes out of the internal speakers, no matter if the headphones are plugged in or not.
I took a look at the Sound Preferences panel and, sure enough, it doesn't detect the headphones as plugged in (just the internal speakers). Does anyone have any suggestions on troubleshooting? I'm not sure it matters, but I did just recently upgraded to 10.5.6. The headphones worked after the upgrade, but it may be that this is the first time they were *re*plugged in after the upgrade.

I've tried 3 different pairs and none seem to work....the sound menu states that headphones are plugged in and working however all sounds are still coming out of the speakers, which are also not loud even if turned up to the max.

I have been using my headphones in new macbook pro for about 3 months and everything has worked fine. About two weeks ago I started using external speakers, but my headphones still worked when I plugged them in, until about yesterday. The headphones are not even recognized the the volume just goes throught the laptop speakers. My headphones work with my ipod still so I know they are fine.

I was wondering if it's possible to play sound through the speakers and headphones of a computer simultaneously.
The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.

I just bought a 15" MBP last week and got a few apps installed on this machine. And now it looks like I have a problem with the sound. When I use the built-in loud speakers, it is totally fine. But when I plug in the headphones. The left one is bigger than the right one. I check the sound configuration, the balance is put right in the middle (for both built-in loudspeakers and headphones). Therefore, I have to put it 3/4 on the right for the headphones. But I just don't know what is happening with my MBP. I believe probably there are some conflicts between the installed software with the drivers or something, but since it happens for both Mac OS and Windows 7 (Boot Camp), I guess I was wrong then.
