Its been a while since i've looked into this after i first realized that the speakers attached to my G5 PM didnt shut off when i plugged in headphones. Has there ever been any type of software fix for this? And while we're at it, was this issue resolved in Mac Pros?

I'm having some trouble having my speakers and headphones working together.
In my prior setup, I've always had my Macbook Pro Line-Out connected to a set of speakers who allowed for my headphones to be jacked into it.
I had no problems with this setup as it allowed me to use either one.
Now, I bought a new Logitech G35 headset which has a USB end as opposed to the 1/8" jack, and I have to switch between the speakers and headset via Settings > Sound > Output.
I was wondering if it's possible to play sound through the speakers and headphones of a computer simultaneously.
The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.
Whenever I try to play Black Ops(in my windows partition) the sound comes out of the speakers even when my headphones are in. How do I fix this?

My currrent solution for switching from speakers to headphones (or vice versa) involves physically turning the computer, disconnecting one input in the headphone jack, and putting in the other one.
I'm still in love with my iMac, now entering the phase where I have to fight with SWMBO* to get access to my main machine. I have plugged a pair of headphones in the iMac but I would like to be able to find a software solution that would let me switch between headphones and the internal speakers of the iMac (which are quite good actually!) Plugging / Unplugging is not really ideal and I swear I thought I could do this on my powerbook...
View 11 Replies View RelatedIt's been a bad evening. A friend accidentally tripped over a 1/8th to RCA cable we were running from the MB to the TV. Friend and TV are fine, but the MB no longer switches from "internal speakers" to "headphones" when I plug in a pair of headphones, the 1/8th cable, etc. It stays on speaker mode even when the plug is fully inserted.
I've experimented with a toothpick, and have engaged and disengaged the digital out, but that's not the issue. If I bend a fully inserted headphone plug hard towards the front of the MB (i.e., toward the USB ports), I get full stereo sound, which indicates the jack is still partly working; however, under all other circumstances, sound comes through the speakers, which suggests the MB isn't receiving the "switch" signal properly from the jack.
I've been googling for the last few hours, and it looks like Macbook Wind users have found ways to alter the AppleHda.kext file to allow them to manually toggle between internal speakers and headphones, which means there has to be a way to do this on the native Macbook. Unfortunately, no one seems to have this specific problem (or at least, I haven't found anyone with this issue since I started searching)
I can't recall what I need to accomplish this, but I'd like to be able to mute my internal speakers in the event that my headphones come out on accident (my headphones won't securely fasten into the mac, thus have the tendency to fall out).

When i plug in some headphones or external speakers, it wont get sound to them, just like the headphone jack isn't there and the sound come out from the macbook speakers. The only ones that seem to work are the ipod original ones, but not if insert them completely, they need to be strategically plug in, like half in and half out, and if i move it a bit more the sound goes back to the speakers again. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it? I can't use the warranty, because the warranty time already passed.

For some reason, I can't get Logic Express 8 to output audio to my Mac's attached speakers. It outputs fine through my M-Audio interface, though, but I'd just like to listen without headphones.
Over the past few weeks, I've noticed problems with my PowerBook's headphone jack. The headphone plugs don't stay seated in the jack, resulting in loss of audio in either one ear or both until I adjust the plug, at which point it will almost always happen again. I usually end up having to hold the plug in place to get consistent sound from both ears.
At first, I thought it was just my headphones, so I borrowed a couple pairs from friends and ordered a backup pair from Amazon, all with the same results. I've peeked inside the jack once or twice and everything looks fine...but what do I know? I had my iBook G4 a few years ago, and since I was about eleven when I had it, I'm not sure I always took the best care of it, but it's always worked pretty much fine up until about a week ago. It's started shutting down randomly. It also sometimes randomly goes to sleep in the middle of things. In particular, it doesn't seem to like starting up, or the internet, especially if I'm on youtube. I've tried a PMU reset, as it worked once before when my laptop wouldn't start up, but it hasn't worked properly. It's worked from anywhere from a minute from the time I start up again, to about a day or two at most, but it always seems to shut down again.
I really don't know what else to do with it... and I don't understand how computers work at all.
I've got an early 2005 model Power Mac G5. Bought it from a hospital and it's really clean inside. Lately it's been shutting down spontaneously without warning. I thought it might be an issue with overheating, but I'm not that familiar with normal heat levels for a CPU. I installed iStat nano and checked the temperatures. I took a screen shot of the widget. Temperatures are in Fahrenheit. Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track? What do I need to do to solve this problem?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a refurbished iMac G5 that randomly just shuts off. It makes a little "zzzttt" sound, like something is short circuiting and then dies. Sometimes I can power it right back on and sometimes I have to unplug it and wait a few hours before it will come back on. While it's running, there are no issues. It functions beautifully. Anyone else had this type of problem or can you suggest a solution? Here's the info on it:

I don't know if it is a fan or a drive that starts up and runs really fast and loud, then the computer shuts off. I always thought it was the fan, but now am not sure. I have moved it to a place where it is exposed to more air, but that has not seemed to help. Does anyone have an idea or solution to this problem? The nearest Mac dealer is about 80 miles away, so if I can fix this on my own, I would like to try.
View 3 Replies View Relatedif anyone with the latest 15" DL DVD Al Powerbook has had it shut down unexpectedly? I'll just be doing something (checking email, surfing web etc) and it'll just turn off no warning, no "shutting down" message, no low battery warning, nada. just dies. I'll be able to reboot using the power button straight away (even using battery, so it's not a low battery charge problem) and it works normally again, but has to do the full reboot sequence. It's a bit spooky really. i'll be happily going along and suddenly nothing. Problem is, it'll only happen after i've had it running for a few days (i just shut the lid after i'm done with it) so it would be very hard to prove to Apple. Anyone else has had this happen?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iBook (about 3 years old) all the sudden started continuously restarting. The screen would dim and a black window would appear saying that the computer needs to be restarted with a picture of the power button symbol behind it. I have done that and now the same thing keeps happening every time my computer turns back on. It has happened 4 times in the last 20 minutes. One time as soon as it restarted, it shut itself off as soon as the desktop appeared. Does anyone know what this means?
