MacBook :: Sound Not Working Without Headphones - How To Fix It
May 13, 2009
When i listen to anything with headphones and then want to unplug the headphones and listen to whatever im listening it.. it wont work.. it never does.. i have the older version of white macbook.. got it in september.... Anyone know how to fix this?
the sound on my macbook stopped working yesterday. I tried rebooting it and nothing changed. There is no red light in the headphone slot either. The sound doesnt work with headphones or without. What could be wrong with it?
I just got this macbook pro on Saturday and I tried plugging in headphones for the first time today. It's not working, I tried a couple different headphones, nothing. Sound continues to come out the main speakers.
This started happening randomly earlier tonight, and I haven't managed to find a fix just yet.I was encoding a video file for quite awhile (I don't think that parts important, but I thought I'd include it anyway) and then I tried to play a youtube video. I noticed there was no sound, so I tried to up the volume using the Volume Up key on the keyboard. The volume visualisation appeared on the screen like normal (albeit a bit laggy), but the sound still didn't change, neither did I get the usual 'click' noise you get when you change the volume.I went looking into the sound options in the system prefs. only to find that the Output Sound device was headphones. For a test I plugged in some headphones to see what happened and, low and behold, the Output Sound device changed to the Internal Sound and my speakers were working again, but only with the headphones plugged in.
What is the sound quality like on macbooks? I've heard that it's not the greatest and I am prepared for that. I have a 17" dell and it has an unbelievable sound system for a notebook. Is the one of the macbooks really that bad? Anyone just down right frustrated with the quality? I can always get some speakers later too and hook those up when I really wanna crank it. Also when you use your notebook most of the time you will just be listening through your own headphones anyway and I'm sure it's loud through headphones, correct?
I have the BOSE Companion 5 Speakers connected to my Gaming PC and damn, the sound quality I get with the MacBook with my Bose headphones is amazing. The sound is surprisingly loud and 50% volume too.
I just bought a 15" MBP last week and got a few apps installed on this machine. And now it looks like I have a problem with the sound. When I use the built-in loud speakers, it is totally fine. But when I plug in the headphones. The left one is bigger than the right one. I check the sound configuration, the balance is put right in the middle (for both built-in loudspeakers and headphones). Therefore, I have to put it 3/4 on the right for the headphones. But I just don't know what is happening with my MBP. I believe probably there are some conflicts between the installed software with the drivers or something, but since it happens for both Mac OS and Windows 7 (Boot Camp), I guess I was wrong then.
My sound works fine at first, then I plug in my headphones and sound still works but when I pull out my headphones I lose sound in headphones and speakers on my 13" MacBook Pro. Only a reboot (as far as I know) fixes it.
Info: MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I had to plug in my Macbook Pro into a HDMI cable to watch something on a HD TV and had to switch some settings in the sound settings. Now when I plug in headphones and AUX cords the music still comes out of the internal speakers and the only option in the sounds settings for output are the internal speakers.
My Macbook pro will not play sound unless I have headphones plugged in. When the headphones are plugged in, the sound comes out of the Macbook speakers only. How can I get it back to normal?
I have a problem with the headphone jack of my macbook. When i plug in some headphones or external speakers, it wont get sound to them, just like the headphone jack isn't there and the sound come out from the macbook speakers. The only ones that seem to work are the ipod original ones, but not if insert them completely, they need to be strategically plug in, like half in and half out, and if i move it a bit more the sound goes back to the speakers again. Does anyone knows what this might be and how to fix it? I can't use the warranty, because the warranty time already passed.
I have been getting a crackling or clicking sound from headphones and speakers of my macbook pro. It not even a year old.. I use this for music production. I have an external sound card which plays fine but when I use the internal sound devices I get this strange sound. Nothing plays correctly on it.
I've been unable to get sound from internal speakers of headphones on MacBookPro. Did updates, restarted several times, it's not muted, I can adjust volume control, settings are set for internal speakers, can't even hear an itunes song
As the title states, is anyone having trouble using headphones using windows vista under boot camp? I've tried 3 different pairs and none seem to work....the sound menu states that headphones are plugged in and working however all sounds are still coming out of the speakers, which are also not loud even if turned up to the max.
my MacBook Pro audio from the headphone jack just decided to stop working. The weird thing is, in system preferences, the computer is detecting that I've plugged in headphones. I can even control the volume and click play/pause from the control on the headphone wire, just no audio.
I was wondering if it's possible to play sound through the speakers and headphones of a computer simultaneously.
The reason I was wondering if it would work, is because I'm recording a song for school, and I can't hear the backing track through my speakers, but my computer still picks it up. However if i we're to use headphones and my speakers could be playing the same thing at the same time, everything would be fine.
I am having trouble with the bluetooth on my MacBook Retina Display (software is up to date). My MacBook will not connect to my iPhone 5, nor will it connect to the bluetooth headphones I just purchased (Sony MDR-XB950BT). When I try to pair the devices to my MacBook, nothing comes up in the field of recognized devices, except for other laptops around me. Sometimes, my iPhone will show up quickly but then it will say the pair was unsuccessful. My headphones have never appeared on the devices list. However, I can connect my headphones to my iPhone perfectly fine.
I recently installed windows vista (home edition) via bootcamp on my macbook pro.
Everything is running perfectly apart from the sound. I think it might an issue with the computers sound card. When I plug my headphones into the audio output jack, no sound comes through... it still plays out of the speakers. The sound is audible, but just barely.
What may be causing this? Are there any specific drivers I need to install?
When I plug in my headphones or speakers to my macbook mac mail makes new mail, sent mail sounds for about a min. This only started happening the past couple weeks.
For the life of me i can't get the headphone jack on my mac pro working is there a setting somewhere I am missing?tried several headphones, none work they work on other machine etc
I'm currently using the 13 inch Macbook Pro with the latest software. I noticed just today that the built-in microphone that comes with the laptop will not work when I plug in my headphones. However, as soon as I remove them, they resume working.Â
sound not working. when i try to use the volume keys, it comes up with the volume change image but the speaker symbol is grey and there is a padlock icon, and also a red light is coming out of the headphone plug-hole.
For the past few days the sound is not working on my macbook pro; even if i put headphones on or without them it still does not work. I've went to system preferences, then went to sound and it says that everything is not muted.
