Mac :: MacBook Air 11.6 And Steam Games

Oct 23, 2010

Can anyone with an 11.6" MBA comment on how it can handle Steam games on OS X?I mean anything like HL2, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress and stuff like that.If you could make a video that would be awesome!I am not really looking to use it for gaming, but if it can run some of these decently I might go with the larger SSD since I can put Steam games on all of my machines.

MacBook Air :: Running Games Off Steam When Arrives On Osx?

Mar 25, 2010

I'm debating on whether -- when they are upgraded -- to get the top of the line 15 inch macbook pro or the top of the line macbook air. I'm going to college in 2011 and I do hope to do a tad bit of gaming during part of my free time. I currently have a early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor and 2 gb of ram along with a 256 nvidia 8600m GT graphics card and a 5400 rpm 200 gb hdd. I can run call of duty 4 at almost maximum settings with little to no tearing, blurring, or lag during both single player and online play. Would the macbook air be faster than my current system? Could I run games like left for dead 2 or the steam ww2 game (i forgot what it's called) at medium to good quality? How about with the current macbook air? Would the macbook pro be a better choice? I absolutely love the size of the macbook air and the appeal of steam is that I don't need to use a disk to run the games (which would be good on a macbook air).

Windows On Mac :: Internal Mic Works On Win7 But Not With Steam Games

Jun 20, 2009

I'm running a new Macbook pro 15 in - 2.8 Duo with 9600 gt. Bootcamp with Windows 7 build 7100. My internal mic works in other applications, but for some reason, when I try to play Steam games, it doesn't pic up any audio coming through it. Tried +voice_forcemicrecord 0 in the Steam startup options. I have only installed drivers from the OSX DVD and one from Nvidia for the graphics card. Any ideas why this is happening? Other folks seem to be able to get their internal mics to work with Steam.

IMac :: Running BootCamp And Download Games From Steam?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm gonna be installing Windows 7 on my Mini, and running Boot Camp. It's my plan to download some legacy games from Steam (like Doom II, and Half-Life); but does anyone here have any experience with using Steam? Steam appeals to me because it's gonna be easier than hunting-down some of these games on disc. Then there's all that faff with patches and stuff, which Steam deals with automatically.

OS X Mavericks :: Can't See Any Folders / Files For Games Downloaded Via Steam In Finder

Sep 6, 2014

I am operating an iMac with OS X 10.9.4. I have a glitch common to other Mac users in the game "War Thunder" as a result of a game update. The game maker has suggested a fix which requires going into the game folders and deleting the cache:

One potential fix for this issue is to clear (delete all files) from the following folder /Applications/ WarThunder Launcher.app/ Contents/ WarThunder. app/Contents/Resources/ game/cache"

However, when I go into finder the War Thunder launcher contents folder shows only the folders MacOS and Resources. Each contains one file. It does not show up in the Application Support folder even though the following string from the log suggests that the folders and files are all there; "  9.37 [D]  skipping identical / users/davidmcleod/library/application support/steam/steamapps/common/war thunder/warthunderlauncher.app/ contents/ warthunder.app/contents/ resources/game/ content/pkg_tanks/res/pkg_tanks_tanks/ "

why I can't see the full list of folders or why they aren't actually there despite being able to play the game up until the glitch?

Info:
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

MacBook Pro :: Steam For Mac Vs. Bootcamp

Jul 12, 2010

I'm forced to use my 13" mbp as my main computer for at least a couple of months. I had a desktop that I would normally game with but now that my sister is using it for schoolwork, that's not possible. I never even thought about using my mbp for gaming, let alone a 13" model, but now I'm getting desperate. I don't plan on running anything that intense. I usually play some Team Fortress 2 and Counter-strike: Source. My main question is: for those of you that have had experience, which would be a better solution for me? Using Bootcamp and installing Windows XP or getting Steam for Mac? I'm not sure how the process goes for Bootcamp. I'm imagining you would have to dedicate some hard drive space. On the other hand, I've heard that Steam on Mac runs pretty slow compared to it's Windows counterpart. Anyone know if this is true? Appreciate the help.

I have the MBP hooked up with an AIRPORTBS @300mb/s, along with the standard Comcast 8/2 speeds.

MacBook Pro :: Steam Needs To Self Update Before Launching

Aug 23, 2010

I downloaded the "yasu" mac cleaning software, ran a sweep on the mac, then restarted. It basically clears local and web cache, and some other stuff. Well now I can't play stagecraft 2 (like it ran good anyway), and get get on steam (like it ran good anyway). When trying to login to steam it prompts me that steam needs to self-update before launching. So I enter my name / password and nothing happens. I try to open vuze, a torrent program, doesn't even open. Safari works. What did I do? It seems it's not reading the admin permissions correctly. ITunes won't open either

Counter Strike Source will not be here all that soon so don't get your hopes up, they are redeveloping it, to run on a new engine. No point in porting the old engine when they will just have to do it again. Link:.....

Before you all start attacking me for having a second Steam thread, I get it. There's already a steam thread. This one is specifically for those of us who have MBPs (from any generation) that use integrated 9400m and 320m graphics. This is a great way for us to compare the two Core2Duo graphics cards.

Please report any info about frame rates, settings, how well or poorly games run etc. Feel free to re-post information about this stuff from the other thread so that we can consolidate the info.

Will games on Steam (such as Half Life 2, Counter-Strike, TF2, etc) run fine? Also, for music production apps like Pro Tools, will I experience any low performance, or chugginess? I'm not really up on Mac OS X, but with 4GB's on my current PC, I can record and produce around 8-9 tracks and plus with ease.

I just installed it today on my MBP (config is in my siggy), but I'm pretty disappointed because it's obviously not as smooth and fast as in my Bootcamp.I turned most of my settings to at least Med (and some to Low), turned off Antialiasing, but kept resolution of 1440x900, yet it's still laggy/choppy esp. when there's more people involved... Windows On Mac :: Vista 64bit For Games But What If The Games Are Not 64bit?

Mar 7, 2009

I was told to run Vista 64bit for games, but I was wondering about this Since many applications dont even have a 64bit version out and I dont think games are 64bit, will they all run under vista 64bit? I have a feeling this might be a dumb question, but I just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy Vista 64.

Also do you think windows 7 is better for games? Will it even run games that have not been written for it? Or would I just be better sticking with vista 64 until everyone has caught up and made their apps compatible with the new windows 7? I mean will antivirus programs, ripping apps, etc work under windows 7 without a hitch, or should I wait and just use vista64 for now?
