Windows On Mac :: Why Does New 'Wolfenstein' Make MBP Crash?
Aug 21, 2009
I just purchased the new "Wolfenstein" for PC yesterday. The new game is great. I actually play it on max rez w/ high details on my MBP; who would have thought?Anyways, the problem: Occasionally, after 15-30 minutes of gameplay, the screen turns completely black, then 10 seconds into the blank screen, the sound freezes on whatever tone it was playing, endlessly playing that tone. I then hard reset the computer
I have a strong feeling the reason I am experiencing these symptoms is due to overheating. Perhaps I'm wrong, though. My configuration:
1. MacBook Pro listed below
2. Latest 9600m drivers from the NVIDIA site (<--- Bad idea?)
3. XP pro, bootcamp
4. I am using a Speck hard shell case ( <--- Also not a good idea?)
5. Wolfenstein is updated to 1.1, the latest edition.
I am trying to install windows 7 build 7000 in bootcamp on a MacPro. It installs, but on the windows first boot it crashes to a blue screen and shuts down. When I go to use the bootcamp assistant I insert the disk and my computer shuts down and the light blinks.
Windows 7 Update wants to install a security update KB981957 but when I install, it results in a blue screen crash on reboot. Have to use system restore to remove it. Bootcamp Win 7 x64 on 11" Air 2/64. Anyone install it successfully, if so what Air do you have?
Got a MBP i5, installed win7 pro on it, tried to install the bootcamp driver from the provided disk, after the install and restart it would crash during windows bootup, I manage to restore it to get back to windows. There is blue screen that pops up for a second, cant seem to read the code though. So far I've manually install some of the basic drivers like sound and videocard, but would like the bootcamp options in the control panel, what should I do?
Ever since I installed Lion last year on another iMac, and now on my current iMac, whenever I hold down option and click the red close button on a Finder window to close all open windows, the Finder crashes. It doesn't happen every single time, but enough to really make me angry.

When I have no other internal drives connected I have no problems with Windows 7 loaded in boot camp. But when I connect my other 4 internal drives (in bay 2, 3, 4 and optical bay 6) which are set up as a Raid 0 configuration for Snow leopard I run into problems- I get a blue screen of death almost instantly when I start to move the cursor in windows 7. Seems like if there was a way to tell Windows 7 to ignore the 4 other drives then it would work fine? I don't want to have to pull them from the machine each time I start in windows 7.
If I migrate my W7 machine to my Mac mini, will Windows make me reactivate the license? Is that even a big deal? If I use the ethernet cable option, will I need just the regular ethernet cable or a crossover cable?
Basically I want to do this: Take my 80 GB External HDD, reformat it to MacOSXExtended (Journaled). Put leopard on it. Boot from my external HDD. Run BootCamp Assistant and make a windows partition on my external HDD via bootcamp.
I have a Stardom Decktank filled with two WD 1.5tb drives formatted as concatenated (JBOD). Raid version is AppleRaid 2.0.
I chose to format the disks as ntfs the first time but when I had to defragment the disks waaaaaay to often to get full speed with torrents and usenet I figured HFS+ would work better.
The only problem is now that I can't get the JBOD disk to work in Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Is there any drivers i need to install to get it to work? I have googled but found nothing.
after getting my new mac and installing the Windows 7 beta on both the Parallels Desktop and VMware Fusion trials I am beginning to wonder how I can make the most of it?What I mean is how can I make it run smoother? What drivers etc shall I get and install? Please post anything which will speed up windows while I run it on my mac
I've been using the Windows 7 beta and it's incredible. No random Vista slowdowns, User Account Control works just right, and everything worked out of the box. And I love the new task bar. Since it's a new installation (on a better computer, too) it seems even faster than XP and even OS X. So now that many of you have had experience with the beta, do you think the final product will be enough to make you switch back to Windows? And if you've been a Mac user all your life, will you cross to the "dark" side?
i just downloaded GIMP and it uses multiple windows and i have to click the window once first to make it active before i can select anything inside it. is there any way to make multiple windows active so i dont have to click before using a window?
I have an HP windows xp disc that came with the laptop. It's not letting me install it on Parallels. I am thinking because it needs to hard drives for it? One for windows xp and the other one for recovery. The laptop has drive C and D. How can I make it work on Parallels?
I'm trying to figure out how to make my external monitor primary in Boot Camp for my Windows XP SP 3 partition. The "Use this device as the primary monitor." button is blanked out, meaning I'm unable to click it. This was the same with my last laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400) but I solved that problem by closing the lid. With my MacBook, when I close the lid the screen does not transfer everything to the larger monitor but simply leaves the screen on.
Ive been to the Apple Store and I cannot make the windows full screen like you can do on Windows. Is this something native on all Macs? Here are some pics
I have a 50GB windows partition through bootcamp. The problem with it is that it's too small and i constantly have to uninstall games to put new ones on. How can i re-size it without backing up all my saved games, removing the partition and making a new one?
I want to install Windows 7 on a friends' computer, which at present, has no working OS on it. The tricky part is her optical drive is totally kaput. I've been able to find some instructions on how to make live USBs in leopard (like these), but so far, none of them have been bootable by a PC.
When I try to use the disk utility's "restore" function, I get an error message saying "Could not validate source - error 254"
I've googled around for other possible solutions, but haven't turned up anything. Has anybody here been able to figure this out?
There is something that has been bothering me something fierce since I made the switch to the Mac.
When I used Windows I could connect and disconnect USB drives whenever I wanted without fear of losing data. The way Windows works, it's designed for this so you don't have to "eject" the disk every time.
OS X however is different. I have a USB hub, which has at any given time at least 4 drives plugged into it. If I want to say, grab my laptop and head out the door, I have to wake it up, eject all the disks/media cards, and then go.
I find this to be extremely annoying, especially when I forget.
Is there a way to make OS X behave like Windows in this regard?
I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook, i couldn't put the iso disk image on a dvd because my macbook will not read a bank dvd (that's a separate problem)So i was wondering if there was a way to "burn" the iso file on a flash drive and boot it up from through when I'm on Boot camp assistant.
Is there a utility that I can use that will allow me to have the same precision and accuracy with a mouse in mac OS as I have in windows? There is a very different feel when using a mouse in OS X, and I just don't like it.
If I wanted to reinstall Windows (currently using 32bit, want to upgrade to 64), I assume I would remove the partition, make a new one, and reinstall Windows from there. Now, will the same Product Key work if I did it like this? As far as I know, because the Product Key has already been used it won't let me.
I'm going to buy macbook next week; I hear that windows based games do not work in mac, is that true? and if is true than what should i do to instal and play these games? last i do not want to instal windows in my mac book;
