If I migrate my W7 machine to my Mac mini, will Windows make me reactivate the license? Is that even a big deal? If I use the ethernet cable option, will I need just the regular ethernet cable or a crossover cable?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Stardom Decktank filled with two WD 1.5tb drives formatted as concatenated (JBOD). Raid version is AppleRaid 2.0.
I chose to format the disks as ntfs the first time but when I had to defragment the disks waaaaaay to often to get full speed with torrents and usenet I figured HFS+ would work better.
The only problem is now that I can't get the JBOD disk to work in Windows 7 via Boot Camp. Is there any drivers i need to install to get it to work? I have googled but found nothing.
Now I have to ask what is the best way to get all my stuff on the new machine. I keep a backup on an external hd using Carbon Copy. I would like to do a clean install but I think that will be a night mere. I made a mistake when I made the boot camp windows partition by making it Fat 32.. Anyone know if I can make a new partition for windows on the new machine NFST and then copy my windows folder to it. I have it backed up using Winclone which works very well by the way.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've been using the Windows 7 beta and it's incredible. No random Vista slowdowns, User Account Control works just right, and everything worked out of the box. And I love the new task bar. Since it's a new installation (on a better computer, too) it seems even faster than XP and even OS X. So now that many of you have had experience with the beta, do you think the final product will be enough to make you switch back to Windows? And if you've been a Mac user all your life, will you cross to the "dark" side?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased the new "Wolfenstein" for PC yesterday. The new game is great. I actually play it on max rez w/ high details on my MBP; who would have thought?Anyways, the problem: Occasionally, after 15-30 minutes of gameplay, the screen turns completely black, then 10 seconds into the blank screen, the sound freezes on whatever tone it was playing, endlessly playing that tone. I then hard reset the computer
I have a strong feeling the reason I am experiencing these symptoms is due to overheating. Perhaps I'm wrong, though. My configuration:
1. MacBook Pro listed below
2. Latest 9600m drivers from the NVIDIA site (<--- Bad idea?)
3. XP pro, bootcamp
4. I am using a Speck hard shell case ( <--- Also not a good idea?)
5. Wolfenstein is updated to 1.1, the latest edition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to make my external monitor primary in Boot Camp for my Windows XP SP 3 partition. The "Use this device as the primary monitor." button is blanked out, meaning I'm unable to click it. This was the same with my last laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400) but I solved that problem by closing the lid. With my MacBook, when I close the lid the screen does not transfer everything to the larger monitor but simply leaves the screen on.

I want to install Windows 7 on a friends' computer, which at present, has no working OS on it. The tricky part is her optical drive is totally kaput. I've been able to find some instructions on how to make live USBs in leopard (like these), but so far, none of them have been bootable by a PC.
When I try to use the disk utility's "restore" function, I get an error message saying "Could not validate source - error 254"
I've googled around for other possible solutions, but haven't turned up anything. Has anybody here been able to figure this out?
There is something that has been bothering me something fierce since I made the switch to the Mac.
When I used Windows I could connect and disconnect USB drives whenever I wanted without fear of losing data. The way Windows works, it's designed for this so you don't have to "eject" the disk every time.
OS X however is different. I have a USB hub, which has at any given time at least 4 drives plugged into it. If I want to say, grab my laptop and head out the door, I have to wake it up, eject all the disks/media cards, and then go.
I find this to be extremely annoying, especially when I forget.
Is there a way to make OS X behave like Windows in this regard?
I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook, i couldn't put the iso disk image on a dvd because my macbook will not read a bank dvd (that's a separate problem)So i was wondering if there was a way to "burn" the iso file on a flash drive and boot it up from through when I'm on Boot camp assistant.

To make a long story short, I cannot get past the stage in the Boot Camp install process where you make a partition on the hard drive for Windows. I get this error message: The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again. I do not have a removable hard drive to back up my data on. I've got two flash drives that I put my most important documents on but that's it. I can use my IPod Nano to store my ITunes library until this gets figured out.
The only data I would really lose would be my firefox information, though I did get the book mark history, my video game saved data (4 games), and programs like Word 04, Flip4Mac, and other miscellaneous gadgets. I have already shelled out $80 for the Leopard upgrade and $120 for XP. I have no other need for a removable hard drive and as such I will not buy one. I just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support, one hour of it, and after trying repairing disk permissions and other Disk Utility functions we got nowhere. I tried booting from the Leopard disk and doing the same Disk utility repair/repair permissions to no avail.
Varying the size of the partition had no effect. I tried wiping the free space on my hard drive via Disk Utilities and that did nothing. I have plenty of room on my hard drive, it's 120GB and I have a shade over 60GB remaining. The information on "Mac HD" is as follows:
Mount Point :/Capacity :111.5 GB (119,690,149,888 Bytes)
Format :Mac OS Extended (Journaled)Available :62.4 GB (67,002,867,712 Bytes)
Owners Enabled :YesUsed :49.1 GB (52,687,282,176 Bytes)
Number of Folders :135,138Number of Files :623,284
During the rebook with the Leopard CD, there were apparently some disk permission errors. During the repair permissions process it appeared they could not be repaired but were modified or something to that effect. I just ran another -verify disk-verify disk permissions-repair disk permissions and these errors did not show up. A subsequent attempt at partitioning failed. I was directed to call tech support tomorrow AM and am supposed to ask for someone in 'Tier 2', but I'm hoping someone has some ideas that do not including wiping my entire hard drive and starting from scratch. Particularly since I don't know if that will actually work
I am wondering if there is a way to have my iMac boot up in OS/X by default and if I want to use windows then use the hold down option method. So when I also come out of windows that it will go to OS/X without having to hold down the option key while I boot. Is this possible? If so how do I configure it?

I like control of my photos to the file level and I don't like the libarary.Anyway... my old Windows Laptop I backed up to an external HD. Worked fine... I just copied and pasted my photo directories to the HD.I want to do the same with my MacBook... of course. I don't want to have to reformat the external HD to Mac because I have lots of photos and files on there that I want to leave on there and not remove with a format.
