I am running bootcamp with xp on my older non unibody macbook pro. I have it hooked up with a dell monitor, but I want to see things only on the dell monitor and not the macbook one. This works fine booted into OSX, but I can't find a way to do it in windows. Is there a way to disable my laptop monitor?
I have a 30" Dell 3007WFP-HC monitor which I would like to connect to my laptops... I bought a HDMI to DVI cable to connect them.
When using my first laptop: Acer Aspire 6920G with 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, it works just fine. But when trying my second one: Alienware with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium (processor Intel Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.93 GHz), it doesn't work at all...
Wirelessly? Ethernet? USB? Which is easiest to set up? And will speed be an issue?
I have the 17" MBP but need more screen real estate. My mom gave me a $300 dell laptop, so I was hoping to be able to make this work and not have t spring for an additional monitor.
I've tried SynergyKM and can't seem to make it work.
Hardware is not my forte, so please keep it simple.
Is there a way to use my external monitor as my only monitor when connected to my mbp? Or, can i clone my display, but at separate resolutions? I am able to do this on windows with nvidia software, is there software that allows further customization?
also, their all .avi video's. and i'm really confused! also, quicktime isn't letting me play .avi videos for some reason! and vlc won't download for me. and i'll put them on a USB but they wont download on my computer!
Is there an easy way to cause a connected external monitor to be "disabled?" E.G. I have an iMac connected to an LCD TV (via VGA, spanned, external at 1360x768). If the TV is plugged in, even if it's off, the computer switches to spanning mode. The consequence of this is that, if my preferred setup is to have the external be main, for instance, I essentially have to unplug it from the iMac whenever I don't want to be using it. Even if the external is the 2ary dsplay, it means that the mouse can go off the edge of the screen on one side, and that two of the hot corners are messed up. Is there any utility that could do something like add a "disable external display" item to preferences or the menu bar?
Is there a tweak out there that will disable the internal display while using an external monitor WITHOUT having to first close the lid on my macbook because I just leave my macbook plugged in for weeks a couple feet away from my desk and it's become a hassle to first close the lid, then move my mouse, then open the lid for better ventilation. I just want to leave it open and disable the display!
Is there a way to disable the external monitor? I don't want to have to unplug it every time I want to disable it... There must be a way. What options do we have?
I have a 24" Imac 2.66 (which i love!), and want to connect my work 13" Dell Laptop to it, so I can use the larger monitor. I can't just use my Mac as I have corporate applications that I need to use. As there is no video-in, I have tried Remote control, but this is too laggy. I hear Elgato eyeTV hybrid may work but I wanted to see if anyone has had success. I have been in email conversations with Elgato but they haven't actually grasped what I want to do yet! It sounds possible as you can connect PS3/Xbox etc through the Hybrid using the supplied s-video/composite cable. So could i just get a vga (pc video out) to s-video (Hybrid) cable to connect through the Hybrid? would the picture on my iMac fill the screen?
I have an iMac 27-late 2009 (YD03003M5PE) I'm considering buying a macbook air for business travel, but when I'm home would like to use it through my monitor and keyboard. what's the best way to do that? should i connect it directly as a monitor? / keyboard? (hardware connection) can this be done through the video port? alternatively, should i use a remote screen/monitor access of some sort? (software connection)
I have a Mac Pro and a MacBook Pro. With the Mac Pro I have just the one screen - used to have two, but now just the one as I rarely need it. However, for a job I'm doing at the moment, it would be handy to have the use of two screens. Do you know if it's possible to hook both computers up and use the LapTop screen as a second monitor for my Mac Pro?
I have a 17" G4 powerbook. I would like to get a display for it. Will i have to keep my laptop open if I am using the monitor? Or will I be able to close the laptop and still use the monitor?
I just had the laptop on one hand, and was carrying my dog on the other hand and as soon as I turned around it hit a door. Now that's how that scratch got there. I'm so sad because I was so taking care of it! It's under the mini monitor port as you can see. Does anybody know how I can get that scratch off? [URL]
I know this is a little strange but my business partner wants to see if he can get a mac mini, and hook it up through his pc laptop, using it as the monitor.
Is this sort of thing even possible?
He mentioned using a laptop docking station, but I just don't know if its possible.
I received a 27 LED apple/mac monitor --not the 2011/12 version though.I want to use with my work computer--a dell laptop. I can't seem to find the right adaptor to connect the two.I need a dvi port converter that also connects to my vga on my laptop (so need the male end of hte vga since my laptop has the female end).I only found 1 adaptor but it ends with a dvi on a vga. I don't have hdmi on my laptop either--tried that adaptor as well when I couldn't see on the pic when I ordered that it was hdmi not usb). Please help. I have read so many blogs that say it can be done.
I would like to disable the effect that causes application and software windows like Finder windows and Microsoft Word to "swoop" into and out of the dock.
My preference is to have these windows simply "cut" into and out of the dock without the swooping effect.
I have Boot Camp set up so Parallels Desktop can access it. Trouble is, whenever I boot up using Parallels, Windows Activation fails. If I boot up in Boot Camp, and reactive, all is fine. Rather annoying - Windows functions fine (as far as I'm aware) when the activation fails, but it just means that I have to keep closing the popup box that appears. Best way to sort all of this?
I posted earlier about if I can use both a Nvidea 8800 GT and an ATI Radeon 2600 XT with my new Mac Pro. Currently it just has an ATI card and it seems like it'll work fine. The other question I have though, how will this work under VMWare? I have a Linux virtual machine but most of all I use a Windows XP Virtual Machine. Will there be a conflict between the two video cards when I use Windows XP? If so, I won't even need the ATI as much when I'm on Windows XP. Is it possible to disable that and just use the NVidea card while using Windows?
Here is my problem. Whenever I start up in mac osx, the boot camp volume that has windows vista on it automounts. I always unmount it but then when i restart, the volume is right there again. I was wondering if there was any way to disable it from automounting because I know I can just change which os I want to start up in with the "option" button. If there is a process, could someone be really specific cause I'm still quite new to the mac.
Anyone know how to disable the new feature in Hotmail? I hate that when I login to check email it automatically signs onto MSN messenger and everyone can contact me when all I want to do is check my email. Is this the right area to post?
how to disable sound from running to my ACD speakers? Sound is going through my speakers (3.5mm audio out) within the Realtek driver settings, but all other sound (Games, youtube, music, etc.) is playing through my monitor... How can I make it all go through my external speakers?
Each time I start VMWare Fusion 3.0.2 it will ask me to type in my password. How can I turn that off so that when I click the "Start Up" button it will go straight to booting without asking me for password?
Someone used my computer here in the ofc during the weekend and resized the left panel really wide (i don't know why he did that). I tried to resize it back. It's the panel where you see the devices, shared, places, search for etc. When I reopen the window in finder the wide panel remains the same. I've been experimenting on how to put it back the way it used to but I couldn't get it back. Is there a way to disable window and panel resizing in mac osx so that this won't happen again?
has anyone figured out how to disable the audio on the new apple LED display when running in windows? I know its possible to do so and use speakers connected to a MBP while in OS X - use System Prefrences. The same does not appear to be true for Windows XP when I go into Audio setup in Windows XP control panel. Boot camp control panel does not offer any solutions.
Is it possible to use speakers connected to an Airport Extreme while running in Windows?
Anyone know how to disable Flip4Mac and QuickTime so that I can use Windows Media Player 9? I need to use WMP9 on a couple of websites that do not work with Flip4Mac/QuickTime. Previously I had just opened the WMV Upgrade that is in the Flip4Mac folder and unchecked Use Flip4Mac WMV Browser plug-in and then relaunched Safari. But now even when I uncheck Flip4Mac, it, and QuickTime continue to open.
