Anyone know how to disable the new feature in Hotmail? I hate that when I login to check email it automatically signs onto MSN messenger and everyone can contact me when all I want to do is check my email. Is this the right area to post?
View 15 RepliesI love safari. Its fast, looks great, and does everything I want it to. Outside of poor flash support (I hear macs in general are just bad for flash) everything works. What I don't like in safari is the top sites feature. I don't mind that it keeps track of which websites i visit most often, but I hate how it takes a little snapshot of every website and saves it in the website preview folder in the cache.
I didn't know you had to manually delete it and when I did it was taking up over 1.5 gb of space (/user/library/caches/com.apple.safari/website previews). I don't understand why apple couldn't have just made top sites show your most commonly visited website (like chrome or opera) and instead had to take on the website previews. Is there a way to disable top sites or at least prevent it from saving previews of websites everytime I use it?
I upgraded to Safari 5 yesterday, and I am finding the new URL autocomplete to be the most obnoxious thing I have ever dealt with. Is there any way to disable URL autocomplete all together, or revert it to its old behavior?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWas wondering if there is some way to disable the auto-open cursor hover feature? (Not sure what else to call it). It's driving me nuts.It's most disfunctional with Safari--for example when I'm trying to find a specific webpage in the Histor-- if I don't keep moving the cursor constantly, whatever URL the cursor happens to be over will just open and load.Then I have to start over again. This seems to happen sometimes on the desktop as well.

I have a 17" MB PRO bought august 2010 8gb ram 7200rpm HD
The game I want to run actually runs better on 4gb ram (acording to the geeks who know everything about it) but as we all know the graphics card is not really up to par for gaming.
(I KNOW THAT MAC BOOKS ARE NOT MEANT FOR GAMING, but I don't listen well ) i also know that the graphics card is built in and uses shared memory. I know on a PC Lap Top (with built in chips) in bios settings you can allocate more or less normal ram, as a overflow for when your graphics card is over loaded.
I am wondering if there is such a feature for bootcamp windows on a mac book? I would like to bring it up to 4Gb shared. If its not possible please dont flame me, i am not really knowledgeable with all the technical stuff and you only learn from asking.
I was able to get into hotmail earlier today. Later, when I tried to log in to hotmail later, it wouldn't work. With my main account, it doesn't do anything except just go back to the screen to enter my password. When I try my other account, it gets to a screen that says I don't have a windows live inbox (wtf). It doesn't appear isolated to my computer, as I tried my roommates computer, and his computer just kind did nothing but go to a blank screen when I enter my password.

One is called "SizeUp" and I've been using it for a few days now. Very useful program, especially if you find yourself wanting to quickly compare two webpages side by side. It uses keyboard shortcuts although you can also select it from the menu bar.

I have a 21.5 inch iMac and after using the expose feature for about 30 mins or so it acts strange. I normally use it through the 3rd 'squeeze' buttons on my mighty mouse but it happens with the expose button on the keyboard too. When I activate expose it chucks all the windows out but then brings them all back straight away where before it used to chuck em out n scatter them until I pressed it again. I tried changing the mouse and keyboard and did a software update too but no luck. The same thing happened in my previous 20inch aluminium iMac?!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Boot Camp set up so Parallels Desktop can access it. Trouble is, whenever I boot up using Parallels, Windows Activation fails. If I boot up in Boot Camp, and reactive, all is fine. Rather annoying - Windows functions fine (as far as I'm aware) when the activation fails, but it just means that I have to keep closing the popup box that appears. Best way to sort all of this?

Currently it just has an ATI card and it seems like it'll work fine. The other question I have though, how will this work under VMWare? I have a Linux virtual machine but most of all I use a Windows XP Virtual Machine. Will there be a conflict between the two video cards when I use Windows XP? If so, I won't even need the ATI as much when I'm on Windows XP. Is it possible to disable that and just use the NVidea card while using Windows?

I always unmount it but then when i restart, the volume is right there again. I was wondering if there was any way to disable it from automounting because I know I can just change which os I want to start up in with the "option" button. It's the panel where you see the devices, shared, places, search for etc. When I reopen the window in finder the wide panel remains the same. has anyone figured out how to disable the audio on the new apple LED display when running in windows? I know its possible to do so and use speakers connected to a MBP while in OS X - use System Prefrences. The same does not appear to be true for Windows XP when I go into Audio setup in Windows XP control panel. Boot camp control panel does not offer any solutions.

I don't know if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but in OS X, there's this option that disables input from the trackpad when an external mouse is plugged in. I couldn't find something similar to that for Windows, and since I use Boot Camp to play a few games in Windows and my palms keep swiping the corners of the trackpad (thereby making my aim wonky) I wanted something that would have the same effect.
So I Googled. And searched. And searched.
Best solution was to go to Control Panel and disable the mouse. But I'm lazy, I want something to do it for me, automatically, if possible.
So, in the interest of pure laziness, I... wrote a utility to do pretty much exactly that. It supports manually enabling or disabling the trackpad, and also automatically enabling and disabling it when an external mouse is plugged in/removed.

So, if any of you guys are using Windows to play games or do anything else, and you have the same issue with the trackpad that I do, hopefully this helps you guys out too.

In Windows XP/Vista, if you are navigating in a folder containing pictures, and you click any picture, it opens up Windows built in preview program. Much like OSX. However, in Windows, you can click "Next/Previous" within that program to quickly flip through those photos. Why do the up & down arrows in OSX not work? I still prefer my iMac to any PC I have owned, but this one little thing bugs me to no end. Is there a setting I can change somewhere to make that work like in Windows?
