I got all the way to where it says, please select which HD you want to install vista on, and i picked the one that said Bootcamp, which I earlier partitioned, but it said it wasn't NTFS. How do I make it NTFS? I thought it would automatically do it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have an external drive hooked up to an eMac. The plan is to install 10.5 on the drive, and then put the drive into a G4 powerbook. I booted the eMac from the 10.5 retail install disk, partitioned the external drive into 1 partition, with the 'Apple Partition Map' option selected in the options. But when I go to try to install onto the disk, it has a red X and says that the computer can not boot off of the device so it refuses to install.

I have a MB Pro with latest Leopard running. HD partitioned into 2. I have a Windows XP Home install CD. How can I get it up and running on my computer? Simple please as I'm not too 'techy'. If possible, it would be nice to install it onto my second partition just to keep things clean on my main one.

I am trying to install Windows 7 via bootcamp. I opened Bootcamp Assistant, and when i click continue, i get this popup.
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition" The startup disk must be formatted as a single mac OS Extented volume or already partitioned by boot camp assistant for installing windows.
I click OK.. And same message reappears
I cannot go ahead.
I have my 1 TB Disk partitioned as follows
500GB for Mac - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
408 GB for Movies - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
91 GB for Windows - Which is Mac os Extended (Journaled)
Now what do i do to get bootcamp work.
I ran Bootcamp Assistant and assigned 20 Gb of space to windows - leaving 115 Gb free. I had defragmented my harddrive using iDefrag and then I ran the partition. Afterwards I got the common error "The Disk Cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Backup the disk and use disk utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume." Is there a simple way to fix this problem (I have looked on the web) without having to run disk utility and format the harddrive.

A poster in another thread concerning this problem said that to create a partition, Bootcamp needs continuous space or something. I do have many large files, and I had up to 3 GB free out of 180 a few minutes ago until I deleted some files to get about 58 GB. I tried partitioning with 45 GB and got the error message. I also tried lower numbers, but nothing worked. I'm assuming it's because my files are fragmented. Then I looked up defragment in the forums and found that many people are against it whether it's because it "slows down the computer" or "it is unnecessary." Now I'm in a bind because I don't want to reinstall my OS, but now I'm hearing I shouldn't defrag either.

I just recently bought my first macbook pro. I had a 500 GB WD elite passport drive. I partitioned it to Mac os extended (journaled)- for time machine and FAT for windows and mac file transfer and storage. I used disk utility to partition the drive. These two drives are detected in my mac, however when I plug in the external drive into my windows- no pop up appears telling me to open files. So I go into my computer and click on the (F) drive in my case. Windows vista then proceeds to tell me the drive must be formatted before it can be used. What problem do I have. All I want is 2 partitions one for time machine and another that will allow for data transfer and storage. I have looked but cannot seem to find and answer. I have a 160 gb hard drive, what amount of space do you recommend for the time machine partition.

I have a program that I must run on Windows as it is not supported on Mac. I have a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.3 with a partioned drive Running Windows 7. Currently, I am rebooting to access the Windows side, but will eventually use the parallel software that is available, but baby steps first. (I am a new Mac user by the way, trying to get rid of the PC, but have found our accounting software is not supported for mac - inconceiveable I know!). So, I have an executable file that I need to launch and cant quite figure it out. I also have Boot Camp, but honestly don't have a clue what it does.

If i buy the fully version, should i get rid of my pardon, and re-do it with bootcamp, or should i just do it over my current pardon? (Vista) I just want the best way, less pain, less anger. I used the boot camp manager to make a windows partition, and I made it 80GB. Then I restarted the computer and the XP installer opened. When I select where to install XP, the only option is a 130GB Disc. Leopard is 150GB and XP is 80GB, so where did it find this drive? Disk Utility clearly shows 2 partitions, nothing else. I didn't select it obviously because I don't want to screw up Leopard, but what should I do? Should I just bring it to the Apple store and have them do it for me?

Using the generally accepted method for converting a USB flash drive to act as an installation disc my 2010 iMac 27 will not recognize this drive using the boot drive 'option' key method. After formatting the drive as an MBR disk to act as in installer the iMac will not recognize it as a bootable drive. This works fine on other Intel based computers and my GUID USB Flash Drive OSX install image works just fine and is recognizable as a bootable drive.

I have 4 options, and i should choose the last one which says bootcamp 116gb, but i cant click it since it says the disk need to have NTFS format. How can i set so that i partiton it to NTFS?
I was able to get Windows Vista 64 running on my 17" MBP, it is pretty slick. I set aside 32 GB for Windows, ran the install, loaded all the appropriate Boot Camp drivers and everything is working perfectly in Windows. I boot back to OS X to attempt to configure Parallels...
So I fired up Parallels and follow the guided instructions. However, when I get to step 2 Im not sure what I should be doing. I already have Windows on its own partition, but Parallels is asking me for a CD/DVD image. Im a little leery of putting the Win disc back in, I dont want Parallels to always want to boot from the disc. how do I tell Parallels to load Windows as a Virtual Machine off of the Boot Camp partition?
The partition Boot Camp created now appears on my Desktop in OS X as Untitled, I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to change that. If I eject that volume will I still be able to Boot to Windows? Will Parallel still work?
I recently installed Windows vista using going through parallels because my bootcamp failed a while ago. This partition also acts as my bootcamp. Well The internet on parallels works fine because it is using osx network, but when i boot into bootcamp the network drivers seem to be missing. I cant figure it out, but it says the ethernet and network drivers are not there. I cant find the drivers on the internet anywhere and when i use the vista disk i have it still does not want to install them.
