View 2 RepliesI've been trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 on VirtualBox. However, when I try, even in full screen, it only shows a part of the screen. I know how to change the res if I could access the menu, but I can't. Can someone help? BTW I can't finish the installation until res is better so the set up window is still in the middle.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it is possible to run a few old pc games in virtualbox. Old games, such as, Star Trek: Armada 2, Bridge Commander, and Elite Force. Would I be able to get the performance needed from this (I think the newest game is from 2003, maybe) or do i need to go boot camp?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am making a summer project out of dual-booting my G4 PowerBook with OS X and Ubuntu. I downloaded and burned the Fiesty PowerPC ISO. The live CD is awesome. I really really want to make this happen. I had tried installing Ubuntu back in the Edgy days, but it just wouldn't work properly. The trackpad wasn't working right, my wireless card wouldn't work (damn you Broadcom). Has anyone installed Fiesty and have it working on thier G4 PowerBook?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAm currently running Ubuntu 11.10 on Virtual Box on my Mac. I have the set the memory usage to 1.5 GB for this instance. My Mac has total memory of 4GB. I would like to know, what is the recommended memory for Ubuntu 11.10 running on Virtual Box.
Info:
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
I just ordered the MBA and windows 7. There's some (but not a lot) of somewhat intensive programs I need to run in windows for school. Is there any noticeable difference between loading windows in bootcamp or virtualbox? My thinking is bootcamp would allocate more of the computers resources to windows. Am I wrong about this and theres no major difference?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am wondering whether to install win7 via bootcamp or virtual box. My macmini has 2GB memory so if I do a virtualbox install the max I will allocate for win7 is 1GB. I will not be using win7 a lot, I am installing it because my univ gives it for free and just wanted to test it out and play with it. Also, one more problem, the MSDNAA download for win 7 is in EXE format. If I do decide to install as a VM using virtualbox how can I install the EXE, I might have to convert it into a ISO right?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Win 7 ISO, because I thought I was supposed to download that instead of the other, to install on VirtualBox. With the ISO version I need a previous version of windows to upgrade from. Is there a way around this? I've read some things and tried it, but couldn't get it to work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to create a virtual machine on my i5 MBP because I need to run some specific Windows software (Tacx Training Software, I'm into cycling). Which one of the 3 virtual machine programs is better from a performance/stability perspective? Has anybody seen a comparison test yet? I understand that VirtualBox is free for personal use, is it really worth paying for the other two?
View 10 Replies View RelatedWhen I want to finish a session of using Vista in VirtualBox. If I "x" out the application, "it says "save in state" or something like that and "power off machine" is power off machine different than shutting down windows? What's best to do and what does what? I'm assuming also that I can't just close virtualbox and come back to it later without windows being shut down or affected?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know the issue of what virtualization package is best on the mac has been debated endlessly, but the only thing I have been able to conclude is that some people have great experiences with each package and some people have horrible experiences with each package. I'm interested in some numbers and figure this place is a better forum for collecting this data than, say, the apple store.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've set up an account for my kids to use and also have VirtualBox installed on my account.
The kids have an educational program that only runs under Windows and I would like to give them access to it but not to the rest of VB. Is there any way I can do this?
I've thought of perhaps creating a new VB disk just for them but I can't see how I could restrict them from then opening up other VB disks that I don't want to give them access to.
I need to switch from VirtualBox to VMware fusion, however the virtual HD file formats are different. Whats the easiest way to migrate?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny thoughts on how VirtualBox compares to the Fusion and Parallels versions? I think VirtualBox would be a nice free alternative if you are running Windows in Bootcamp.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just finished putting up some Benchmarks of Windows 7 using the latest builds of Parallels, Fusion and VirtualBox with both x86 and x64 based images on various Macs. More results coming soon. [URL]
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate through VirtualBox, but I wasn't crazy about the experience and I have a Windows 7 laptop. I used the uninstall tool from the downloaded DMG file, but my 20GB of hard drive are missing still. Is the space still tied up somewhere or is something just like a restart needed? (I've been using my Mac all day so I haven't had the change to try a reboot)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was looking for a remote desktop solution that would allow me to access my OS X iMac from my PC laptop that can run either Windows 7 or Ubuntu. I would prefer the solution to be free but I am open to every software idea and I have no preference between accessing OS X from Windows 7 or Ubuntu.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 on 500 GB external drive and it will now no longer boot Ubuntu nor Mac. I need to know how to fix this. Things already tried:
*Backing up harddrive and installing Snow Leopard (10.5.4 is what it is)
*Deleting the external harddrive and reformatting it.
I want to be able to keep all my mac files. The file with a ? appears when the Ubuntu livecd is not in. (that is the only thing that boots).
I got this weird issue with my 4 GB flash/thumb drive. Basically, in OS X it seems to work perfectly fine. I formatted it to HFS+ and transferred files to it, ejected it, then put it back in, the file is still there, I transferred it back to the computer, and it opens fine. However, when I put it in any machine running Windows, it'll only recognize 48 MB or something. It refuses to format the whole 4 GB.
When I plug it into an Ubuntu machine, it would recognize a "4 GB filesystem", but would throw up errors anytime I try to interact with it. And when I tried to format it with Ubuntu, it would invariably fail. From Windows and Ubuntu's views, the flash drive is no good. But then why does it *seem* to work fine in OS X? Yes, I have formatted the drive with MS-DOS (FAT) in OS X, same results in Windows and Ubuntu.
I know this isn't "Windows" per say, but I couldn't really find a closer forum to post in. I installed Ubuntu following their online guide using Bootcamp and such because I was curious. Now, it's not really working as much as I would like it to, and I'd like to remove the 90 or so Gigabytes I gave to Ubuntu in my partition.
I tried using the Disk Utility, and it always gets stuck on "preparing to remove partition". I waited for an hour and a half once, and it still had not progressed. I also tried using the Disk Utility off of my Mac OS X installation disk and saw the same failures and results. What can I do to remove this plaguing Ubuntu partition off of my hard drive for good?
first I know this isn't a Linux form, and there is not a linux forum, but thought this would be the best place to put this, because I supose it applies to windows as well.
Anyway, I have a CD rev A Macbook, that I just installed Ubuntu with. I love it, but I am afraid one day it will overheat and cause my processor to melt. Is that possible? I have heard that if it gets to hot, that the thing will just shut off, but I don't want to take any chances.
I have recently bought a macbook, and i have used boot camp with windwos xp and 7, and drivers worked perfectly, but i need this drivers for linux, like key functions, camera, key ilumination, etc. So i was wondering if its possible before i install linux in my mac.
View 5 Replies View RelatedNow, I set up a partition to run Ubuntu on my MacBook, but now I want to remove that partition to make room for Windows XP. When I go to Boot Camp Assistant, I try to click 'Continue' but it gives me this: I thought I could fix the problem using Disk Utility, but I couldn't understand what I could do. I thought it would work by erasing them, but I may have made the problem worse. Here is what it looks like: I tried booting the Ubuntu disc as I read I could remove the partition using that, but I don't understand how that would work.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to get the wireless mighty mouse to work in windows 7 running via bootcamp tried to pair it but no luck.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.
