Windows On Mac :: Macmini - Win 7 - Bootcamp Or Virtualbox

Sep 18, 2009

I am wondering whether to install win7 via bootcamp or virtual box. My macmini has 2GB memory so if I do a virtualbox install the max I will allocate for win7 is 1GB. I will not be using win7 a lot, I am installing it because my univ gives it for free and just wanted to test it out and play with it. Also, one more problem, the MSDNAA download for win 7 is in EXE format. If I do decide to install as a VM using virtualbox how can I install the EXE, I might have to convert it into a ISO right?

Windows On Mac :: Difference Between BootCamp And VirtualBox?

Oct 25, 2010

I just ordered the MBA and windows 7. There's some (but not a lot) of somewhat intensive programs I need to run in windows for school. Is there any noticeable difference between loading windows in bootcamp or virtualbox? My thinking is bootcamp would allocate more of the computers resources to windows. Am I wrong about this and theres no major difference?

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Cannot Access Shared Folder On Snow Leo MacMini From Lion MacMini

May 24, 2012

These are the two systems involved:

Host:
Mac Mini 2006 1,1
OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
1.66GHz Core Duo; 2 GB 667MHz DDR2
Ethernet connected

Client:
Mac Mini 2007 (1,2)
OS X 10.7.4 (Lion)
1.83GHz Core 2 Duo; 2.5 GB 667 DDR2
Connected via WiFi

[code]....

Here's what I've tried: SMB and FTP sharing is disabled on the host. After updating the operating systems on both computers as far as they can be updated, permissions were repaired, new sharing usernames were created, firewalls are disabled on host and client.

Info:
Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Windows On Mac :: VMWare 3.2 - Parallels 5 And VirtualBox 3.2.4

Jun 20, 2010

I'm looking to create a virtual machine on my i5 MBP because I need to run some specific Windows software (Tacx Training Software, I'm into cycling). Which one of the 3 virtual machine programs is better from a performance/stability perspective? Has anybody seen a comparison test yet? I understand that VirtualBox is free for personal use, is it really worth paying for the other two?

Windows On Mac :: Shutting Down Versus Power Off In Virtualbox

Aug 9, 2009

When I want to finish a session of using Vista in VirtualBox. If I "x" out the application, "it says "save in state" or something like that and "power off machine" is power off machine different than shutting down windows? What's best to do and what does what? I'm assuming also that I can't just close virtualbox and come back to it later without windows being shut down or affected?

Windows On Mac :: Parallels - Vmware Or Virtualbox - Best Package?

Aug 26, 2009

I know the issue of what virtualization package is best on the mac has been debated endlessly, but the only thing I have been able to conclude is that some people have great experiences with each package and some people have horrible experiences with each package. I'm interested in some numbers and figure this place is a better forum for collecting this data than, say, the apple store.

Windows On Mac :: Setting Up VirtualBox And Parental Controls?

Feb 13, 2010

I've set up an account for my kids to use and also have VirtualBox installed on my account.

The kids have an educational program that only runs under Windows and I would like to give them access to it but not to the rest of VB. Is there any way I can do this?

I've thought of perhaps creating a new VB disk just for them but I can't see how I could restrict them from then opening up other VB disks that I don't want to give them access to.

Windows On Mac :: Missing Hard Drive Space After Uninstalling VirtualBox

Dec 24, 2010

MacBook Air :: Migrating Bootcamp Image / Blackbook Bootcamp Partition Having Windows

Jan 30, 2009

Used migration assistant to move my Blackbook apps and settings to the Air using a Time Machine backup from my Time Capsule - wirelessly. Two hours later (not terrible) and I'm using my Air with all my apps and setting - fantastic.

Question: My Blackbook also has a Bootcamp partition running Windows - is there a way to take that image and migrate it to my MB Air? I'd rather not have to purchase the Superdrive and re-install/setup the Windows OS on my Air....

Windows On Mac :: BootCamp Fails To Make BootCamp Partition

Jan 23, 2009

I want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.

I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."

So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

Maybe I'm just over thinking this, but Apple never posted a KB article about how to upgrade an existing bootcamp partition with the new snow leopard bootcamp 3.0 drivers. I'm assuming if you already have bootcamp 2.1 you boot up in boot camp and then insert the snow leopard disc in order to upgrade the drivers to 3.0 correct? Or do I have to erase my stupid bootcamp partition and reinstall it all over again using the new leopard boot camp assistant in order to get to 3.0?

PowerPC :: MacMini G4 1,25 Won't Boot (again).

Jul 5, 2010

I have a problem with my old G4 MacMini wich I use for my mp3's/torrents/webserver.

I was ripping all my audio cd's, when all of a sudden my MacMini froze.
After a reboot I heard a clicking noise coming from the HDD so my conclusion was: dead HDD.

After ordering another 40GB ide HDD, I managed to install Tiger. Everything seem to work fine. But the moment I rebooted, I got this nice gray screen (again) with a logo flashing from a small finder icon to a question mark.

Things I've tried:
- I tried to reboot holding 'C', but that didn't work.

- PRAM reset (holding down the power button when inserting the powercable, and pressing power again). Didn't work.

- I've switched the 3V battery with an old PC motherboard battery (new one underway).

Unfortunatly I don't have a wired Mac keyboard, so I don't have the 'CMD' button (Win keyboard). I do have a bluetooth keyboard, but I assume BT connection is only made when the OS has already started.(second hand Mac keyboard with wire is underway).

Mac Mini :: Adding RAM To MacMini, Do Both RAM Modules Need To Match?

Aug 18, 2008

I have this 1.42GHz G4 Mac Mini that my mother uses for very basic stuff but still gets bogged down by skype videoconferencing or by having more than a couple of tabs open on the browser. I was thinking of adding some RAM to its original 512MB (DDR 3200 on 1 module).

I checked prices on Ebuyer and 1GB of DDR3200 SODIMM will set me back 26 while a DDR4200 module of the same capacity will cost 13. I was wondering if it would be OK to mix the 2 memory types and get 1.5GB, or if I should replace the original RAM completely.
