Am currently running Ubuntu 11.10 on Virtual Box on my Mac. I have the set the memory usage to 1.5 GB for this instance. My Mac has total memory of 4GB. I would like to know, what is the recommended memory for Ubuntu 11.10 running on Virtual Box.

my 2.66 ghz Quad Core Mac Pro has 6 gig's of memory. I always have several application's open at the same time. I've got Aperture 2 which is using 632 mb of memory but sometimes it goes over 1gb. Iphoto is using 300 mb, I've got firefox open, the New York Times Reader, Rhapsody's online player, Apple's email client, Itunes, etc. Do you guys think that 6gig's of memory is enough? Is more memory recommended? Would that 2 gig's of memory make a difference?

I am making a summer project out of dual-booting my G4 PowerBook with OS X and Ubuntu. I downloaded and burned the Fiesty PowerPC ISO. The live CD is awesome. I really really want to make this happen. I had tried installing Ubuntu back in the Edgy days, but it just wouldn't work properly. The trackpad wasn't working right, my wireless card wouldn't work (damn you Broadcom). Has anyone installed Fiesty and have it working on thier G4 PowerBook?

I just bought a early 2009 MAC Pro and it came with 3GB of RAM, I ordered 3 2GB sticks of memory to replace the 3 1GB sticks that I had in there from Kingston. I turned off the unit, I popped the little levers and pulled the memory out of slot 1, 2, 3 and then replaced the memory with the new Kingston in slot 1, 2, 3
One of the sticks in is not working at all and I get the RED LED light no matter what slot I move that chip to. So I am running on 2 of the new Kingston memory chips.
Can I mix the memory and add the 1GB into slot 3 and 4 with slot 1 and 2 full of 2GB chips?
Also how to I run the memory utility again? I went to /system/Library/CoreServices/ and then I see the program Memory Slot Utility.app
How do I run this? I'm used to no spaces and I type ./then program name
Just did an Apple update to my iMac. Is it recommended to to a restart after the update has downloaded? By the sounds of the prompt afterwards "The update was done successfully" or something like that, sounds like it is not.

I have had terrible problems with my Mac Mini. Apple has replaced the hard drive twice, the SATA cable once and the optical drive once in the first year I've had it. After the latest installation of Lion, I have had repeated problems with the error "Your Mac OS x startup disk has no more space available for application memory." This is false -- I have less than half of my 500 GB in use and 4 GB of wired memory.Â
I believe that Safari is always running when I get this error. Also, I cannot cleanly quit Safari -- I always must force quit, b/c it hangs when I quit. The last time I got this message, Safari was using 1.26 GB of memory. Â

I am just wondering if it would be possible to run a game off of a USB memory stick. The game is approximately 600mb and very old (fallout 2 for mac), and I have very little computer knowledge. I'm used to PCs, but even then I'm no whiz. I absolutely cant install the game to my hard drive, as my flat-mate, who owns the computer is very touchy about me installing things or using memory.

I have maxed out the RAM to 8GB and upgraded the original video card to support my 30" display. I use a helper applications called "Free RAM". This program basically calculates what RAM you have available.
I am a graphic designer and need to run Quark Xpress 7, InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator (CS4 with latest updates) simultaneously. On top of these 4 I also run Mail, Safari, Acrobat Professional, Extensis Suitcase X and iBiz (time management). These programs are all running all the time.
After launch and all apps running, everything is great. I have 2.95 GB of RAM still free (Free RAM). As the day goes by, and I have opened and closed numerous files this amount of free RAM dwindles and eventually I am left with 96 mb of RAM just before the CPU says "Enough is enough!" and everything grinds to a halt. Now previously I was running CS2 and I never ran into this issue. The problem started when I upgraded to CS3. Now with CS4 I am seeing the issue almost daily.
Now comes the question... Is the issue simply outdated hardware? Or, do I have a software issue.I am afraid to purchase a new CPU in the attempts to remedy this problem. If, in fact it is only a software issue. I find it strange that after a restart I have almost 3GB of RAM available. And yet as the day goes by I run out of RAM. I understand that as I open files more RAM will be used to support the open file.However, after the file is closed the RAM should free-up and be available again.
I recently bought a Power Mac G5 with 3 20" cinema displays, each with their own video card. I've since stopped using one and it sped up some. But even with the most simple tasks, it is hella slow and freezes sometimes. If I just have Firefox and iTunes open, it runs slow and the fans kick in overdrive. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've had an iMac for just about a year and over time I guess I just didn't notice but the machine always ran very quietly. At the same time the back of the computer would heat up so bad that it would nearly burn my hand if I left it there. Well last week I decided to upgrade to Lion from Snow Leopard and when I did the install failed and froze up the hard drive. I took the computer in to the apple store and they determined that it had to have a new hard drive installed because the old one (only a year old) had a physical malfunction (was broke). So anyway I have my iMac back and get it started up, backed up from time machine, and then finally get Lion istalled - and now all of the sudden I notice that the fans in the computer are CONSTANTLY blowing - I can hear them spinning and can hear the air venting out of the back of the computer - and the computer is STILL really hot on the backside of the screen. Â
So now I am wondering if the originial problem was the computer heating up and if that may have broken the otherwise good hard drive? Also now that I have a new hard drive - should I be concerned about the fans being on ALL the time? I mean they never go off. Even when I leave the computer for hours and come back to it and the screen is asleep the fans are STILL buzzing away at top speed. Here is the stats on the computer at the time that I'm typing this note - there are no other programs running than Firefox and Mail. Also - I don't know what the optical drive is exaclty - but if it's the DVD drive (superdrive) - there is nothing in the DVD disc driveÂ

this is done by using one 2GB DDR3 stick and one 4GB DDR3 stick.
as the new macbook pros can take up to 8GB.. and there are only 2 ram channels, it will mean that they will use two 4GB sticks of ram.

My company started to use encryption software on our computers in work. They use PeeCee, I have an iMac 3.2GHz Intel. I bought a 16GB Tough N Tiny Verbatim Memory Stick.The encryption software used was TrueCrypt as you can use it both on Mac and PeeCee. Â The problem is I can see my memory stick on a PeeCee but not on my Mac. The IT is indifferent to my issue. He reformatted the stick a number of times. Says it comes up on the Mac in his workshop, however, it doesn't come up on every Mac computer in work. And more importantly it doesn't come up on my Mac. Â
I have reformatted to FAT32, reformatted to Mac, given it to the IT guyS!!, updated all software on all computers, I've used terminal to locate it, I've used Disk Utility to locate it. is it my Mac's fault (other memory sticks come up), is it my sticks fault (it did work once, and works on all PeeCee and some Macs), should I burn it and buy a new one (theres nothing of any importance on it?
