In mail it doesn't show the year in emails and under the "date received" column. Any way to change this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo im looking for a pair of hedphones that are a step up from my standard ipod headphones. Im not really a sound junky but hate ear buds and would like a better sound than what I've got. That being said, the only headphones that I find very attractive are the ADH-2000's. LOVE the look to the point that it has spoiled me and I dont want to buy anything else. The problem is that I have read in several places that you NEED to use an amp with these headphones, which would not make them ideal for every day commuting and whatnot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've Google to no end and the bottom line turns out to be reformat. I've tried editing the symbolic link, renaming the wallpaper in the system folder, etc. but upon reboot no matter what wallpaper I change it to, it reverts to just plain blue. The last thing I did on it before this problem occured was full screen iTunes and set my own wallpaper from within safari (right click Use as desktop Picture). The full screen iTunes bit may be the culprit upon a google result I found. Does anyone know a definiative solution to this issue? Just google '10.7.4 wallpaper' to see the countless others with this issue.

I have an 11"air running 10.9.3. I want it to stay on all the time until I switch it off. BUT it keeps 'going to sleep' reverting to the password login screen after a few hours unused.
I have unchecked the 'password after x hours' box in 'Security'
I have set the power/battery sliders to 'Never go to sleep'
I have 'Zap Pramed'
I have 'repaired disk permissions'Â
....Nothing has worked.
HOW to I stop my air from 'switching off' like this?Â
Lately, my laptop has been freezing for no reason. I've only had it for a year now. Sometimes when I open it to wake it up from sleep, nothing will appear on the screen, but the light indicates that it is on.

I have a folder where I place an ever growing collection of my favorite songs. Before I switched to Mac, on Windows, when I wanted to revisit songs I most recently added to the folder, I would sort the songs by the Date Modified and it would order the files I placed in the folder by date.
In OSX, however, there must be a slightly different meaning to "Date Modified," as it does not quite sort my songs by the order they were added. It gets some of it right, but there's plenty of files that are out of order--tune "x", which I know was placed in the folder a week ago is actually listed further down the list with songs placed in the folder months ago.
Is there a way to have OSX sort files in order of the date it was placed in a folder? Neither "Date Modified" nor "Date Created" works 100% as I thought it would. Or is the OSX definition of Date Modified/Created slightly different than Windows?
I went to the refurbished online store and I noticed they are both selling for the same price. One is the latest generation and has all the nice features like 7 hour battery life and better screen, but the other has the dedicated gpu. I will be playing a fair amount of games, and I am wondering if the 9400m will be enough.

But I got few responses.
So, I post here again.
standard specs for computers, like for both PC and Mac, like compare a laptop/desktop from 2000 (PC) to a Mac at that time, all the way to 2009, well most of the mac stuff would probably be easy but I want to see compare and contrast stuff sort of thing between the 2, since PC's are admittedly, if you have as much money to buy a mac, have really powerful specs compared to an iMac/Mac Pro, but almost every PC laptop pretty much sucks (except alienware, in terms of power and sexiness macbooks/pro win in every aspect, but are still more expensive).

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iBook (running OS 10.3.9) over the last week had been exhibiting some strange problems. Programs would often become unresponive, sometimes to the extent of a hard reset. The problems slowly got worse, until i decided that it would be best to back-up my 2000 songs in my iTunes library, and attempt to repair the OS. I didnt manage to back-up my music, as the computer was too unresponsive, so i went with the repair option. This attempt failed. I then tried to install the "OS and associated apps" in the hopes of being able to recover my music. This also failed, and seems to have corrupted my computer. Now, when i turn on my iBook, it has the grey screen for a while, before going to a black screen saying "/etc/master/passwd: no such file or directory" So now, im praying that there is some way to get my music back, or something that i can do to repair or re-install the OS, while retaing my files.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am trying to copy 2000 or so files (jpg images) from the hard drive of my imac running show leopard to a sd card. I keep getting the item "filename.jpg" can't be copied because there isn't enough free space. I can go back and copy smaller groups of files and then the file that I get the error on. But even coping 10 files I run into the error on certain files but I can copy all the other files in the selection and then the file that gave the error without a problem. All the files were exported from iPhoto resized to fit a digital photo frame I bought for a christmas present. Looking for a way to get the files to the sd card without coping small batches.

I have a recurring problem where my screen (built in or external monitor/projector) will just go blank at random times. It is an unrecoverable situation and I have to do a hard power reset to get working again.
After testing several theories without success I struck upon one that showed promise. The blanking tended to occur when I was in Lion Fullscreen mode, or using a gesture to start expose - so I figured maybe it was a graphics switching issue.
So I went into System Preferences and disabled 'Automatic graphics switching'. I then ran trouble free for several days (I was typically crashing 1-2 times a day)
Then several days later it happened again and I thought I was back to square one. However, a colleague suggested I check the graphic switching setting to see if something had changed it back, and sure enough it was re-enabled.
Now I find myself in a constant battle with the system to keep disabling the 'Automatic graphics switrhing' in System Preferences.
I have tried setting it and locking it, but sooner or later it reverts. I need to know if it is possible to force it to stay disabled.

I am on Tiger 10.4.11 on Mac Book Pro Intel duo. All updates except for Parallels installed. Have run permissions repairs and preferential treatment. Tried to delete preferences for system ... Every time I try to uncheck the box marked or open the Date and Time preferences, it freezes and have to force quit.
First, I've recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and do not have Time Machine. Secondly, I need to have Safari 3.X on my MBP for work yet I cannot revert back no matter what I have tried. I will admit however that I've only tried the suggestion as outlined at the following link:
http://not-noticeably.net/entry/reverting-to-safari-3-from-safari-4-on-mac-os-x-105
The tip at the above link seems to only work for 10.5.X or lower.

Every time I go into Keyboard and Mouse in System Preferences, the Keyboard Shortcuts window always warns me that two actions (Input Source ones and Spotlight ones) have the same shortcuts, so I change one of them and quit, but I just get the alert sound and nothing happens. Also, every time I restart, the shortcuts are immediately reverted, so that the two actions have the same shortcut again. I finally solved it by simply installing some updates with Software Update, the most recent ones being Migration and DVD/CD Sharing Update, QuickTime, and Security Updates 2008-005 and -007.
